DSI Pro 2 - Arturia MicroBrute - Eventide H9 : Performance Setup

Published on Dec 20, 2014 experimentalsynth

"A compact, computer-less performance setup that can create a wide variety of new (and old) sounds. The Dave Smith Instruments Pro 2 is the heart of the setup. In addition to its great sound engine, it provides the master MIDI clock to the H9 and sends tempo-synced LFOs, step sequences and more to the MicroBrute via one or more of its four assignable CV outputs.

The MicroBrute is in the cat bird seat here, but also shown is how that position can also be nicely filled by other analog, CV controllable synths. We also take a Moog Voyager for a spin.

Dreadbox Erebus Synth Module Intruduction (a semi review)

Published on Dec 21, 2014 ProckGnosis

"Fairly in-depth introduction to the Dreadbox Erebus synth module, shy of being a full review. Includes:
- Quick test of the waveforms
- Quick test sweep of the filter (with zero and full resonance)
- Average European pricing
- Discussion of some of the features in comparison to the Murmux Semi-Modular (also from Dreadbox)

Incredibly favorable cost-to-capability ratio with this synth. Not many competitors in this price range with this extensive of a list of features.

And one last point I didn't mention in the video, it comes with 4 patch cables, so you can start getting creative (in a patchable way) immediately.

Cheers!"

"Extremely rare, complete, and sounds amazing. This one is under serial number 30 and was made in 1980. Lots of disks and documentation.

I feel the Series one has the best sound of the pre III models. It has more punch and musical aliasing when you open up the filter. I have a set of Series one cards for my IIx and own a series III so I know these samplers extremely well. I will post a demonstration video in the next few days comparing it to the IIx. Software cannot come close and the sample disks I've heard don't capture the magic either.

I doubt you'll ever see a working, complete Series One like this ever. I cannot remember seeing one for sale in over a decade. The last one sold was a later II series.

It needs a good home. Not just a collector but someone that will take care of it, use it and pass it on to the next generation. This is a very reluctant sale. I'm moving so a lot of great gear has to go."

Update: Interesting synth spotting via daden in the comments: "This synth has an history, i was intrigued by the name on the sticker on the back of this synth did a quick google search and saw the same synth with the same sticker on the back on a pic in this video.." See the bottom of this post for the video.

New Doepfer A-160-5 VC Clock Multiplier/Ratcheting Controller & A-139-2 Headphone Amplifier

"Module A-160-5 is a voltage controlled clock multiplier. The incoming clock signal (socket Clock In) is multiplied by a factor that depends upon the control voltage on socket CV In (0...+5V) and the position of the Mode switch. The multiplied clock signal is available at the socket Clock Out. According to the position of the Mode switch different clock multiplying factors are assigned to the control voltage. With 0V CV no clock output is generated. With increasing CV integer factors (left position of the mode switch), power of two factors (middle position) or a mix of both (right position) are obtained. Nine LEDs are used to show the currently selected multiplying factor. In addition two LEDs are used to display the incoming and outgoing clock signal.

The module can be used for all kind of clock multiplying applications. One important example is the generation of so-called ratcheting sequences. The band Tangerine Dream is famous for this kind of sequences. A normal sequencer generates only one gate signal per step. A ratcheting sequence may have also more than one gate pulses per step. This function can be obtained by using the A-160-5: one CV output of the sequencer is used to define the number of gate pulses per step. If the control of the step in question is fully CCW the generated CV is 0V and no gate signal is generated (mute of the step). When the control of the step in question is turned clockwise one, two or more gate pulses are generated depending upon the position of the mode switch and the voltage generated by the CV at this step."
