Analog Craftsmen - Large Format Modular Synths at NAMM 2015

Published on Feb 4, 2015 BBoy Tech Report

"Analog Craftsmen - Large Format Modular Synths at NAMM 2015
shows us some of their modules including the VOKS VCF

Voks VCF
The acVOKS VCF is a recreation of this unusual circuit. Using the original ICs and a transistor sourced from the former Soviet Union, this filter delivers all the outlandish characteristics of the original. Operated from a panel featuring the unique graphics and Cyrillic script of the Polivoks, the acVOKS VCF is a compelling and forceful addition to your modular signal filtering.

A 10 Minute Jam! by Ken MacBeth

Published on Feb 4, 2015 macbethsynthesizers

"Here's a quick jam that I did yesterday featuring the MacBth Mk1 Modular Synthesizer that I built as well as the up and coming Elements Synthesizer...when you build this stuff for a living, one seldom get a chane to actually play the stuff to any worth while degree- I'm not the best at playing, but I had fun 'making the noises' that I've heard on my old records! I used an Ensoniq ASR-10 to sequence some of this stuff, and also to provide the Piano, Bass Guitar and Drums...the rest I play myself...using two 3 octave CV and Gate keyboards that I built. Using left keyboard that I play - you can here is that new Trans Diode Filter (Filter 'D')that built in the 5U format....there a single MacBeth Mk1 Oscillator 'B' going thru it...the right hand keyboard is driving two Mk1 Oscillator 'A' units thru the Transistor Ladder, Filter 'A'........and playing a lead sinewave- that's coming from the Elements Synthesizer, quite haunting, quite spacey!........I think this vid has it's good moments, but also the not so good!....hope you enjoy my attempt at the old sound!"

My Melodic Mutable Live Patch

PATCH NOTES

Basis of the patch
Elements in the sound source with processing through Clouds. Modulation from the SSF URA (Ultra Random Analog) and manually wiggling of the ADDAC 207 Quantizer keyboard.

Details
Gate rhythm coming from Pamela's Workout from ALM Busy Circuits. This is also clocking a pair of Make Noise Pressure Points with the additional Brains module for sequencing.

The pitch comes from a single row of the Pressure Points and is attenuated in an RYO Ampmix before going to my ADDAC 207 Quantizer which is then "played" live with the keyboard layout buttons. You can see my playing this at the bottom of the screen.

I'm taking a single Elements output into Clouds left input for processing in the main Granular processing mode (they are 3 other processing modes, see my videos on this channel!). I manually move the blend settings (dry / wet, random grain panning, feedback and reverb) on Clouds throughout.

Modulation of Clouds comes from the SSF URA. With the first sample and hold output going into the playback position of the live audio buffer on Clouds (first cable I plug in). The second sample and hold then goes to grain size. I then use the random pulse output from the URA to freeze the audio buffer on Clouds at random intervals.

I play around with various settings on Elements throughout and the points where it really opens up for a big ambient reverb is freezing Clouds audio buffer then taking out the random pulse for freezing (as I don't want it to turn off) and then taking the 1v/oct quantised sequence from Elements into Clouds to play that audio buffer. This moves back to how it was (random pulses freezing on and off, sequence back to Elements and back again a second time).

I stop the clock source (Pamela's Workout) at the end and you can hear the feedback build up in the audio buffer on Clouds.

Any questions just fire away!"

Roland JD-XA- NAMM 2015 - Press Conference - The Future of Roland

Published on Feb 4, 2015 Synthbug

"A few clips from Roland's press conference with some important points about Roland's new direction at NAMM 2015 concerning the JD-XA."

Note it's a crossover synth like the JD-Xi. Curious how many analog voices the JD-XA will have.

I think that's Keyboard Magazine's Stephen Fortner's voice in the background at 1:34.

Radikal Technologies Multimode Dualfilter RT 451 DanceElectro

"This little track demonstrates some of the sonic possibilties of the new Radikal Technologies RT451 Multimode Filter. I created some drum sounds with the RT451 and some modules of my doepfer modular system. I imported the samples into the Spectralis and created a couple of grooves. Then I programmed the step sequencer and triggered the Doepfer again but this time with two oscillators fed into the RT451.

Modules/Equipment in use:
Radikal RT451 Dual Multimode Filter
Spectralis 2 Drumgrid and Step Sequencer

Doepfer Modules:
2x A-140 Envelopes
1x A-138 Mixer
1x A-132-3 Dual VCA
2x A-110-2 VCO
1x A-118 Noise
1x A-147 VCLFO
1x A-180-1 Multiples
1x A-181 Multiples"
