Bob Moog Foundation Presents Dr. Bob's Sonic Workshop as Part of North Carolina Science Festival

"Asheville, NC - April 06, 2015...

Following the success and enthusiasm around its hallmark educational project, Dr. Bob's SoundSchool, the Bob Moog Foundation is bringing a one-hour workshop preview into its innovative science program to Charlotte, North Carolina, in cooperation with the North Carolina Science Festival. Two sessions of Dr. Bob's Sonic Workshop will take place at ImaginOn in downtown Charlotte on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 2pm and 3:30pm. The events are free and open to children ages 7-11.

Dr. Bob's Sonic Workshop is an interactive, experiential hour in which elementary school students learn about the basic physics of sound including vibrations, waveforms, how sound is produced and how it travels. The material and activities in the Workshop are based in a wider 10-week curriculum, Dr. Bob's SoundSchool, which is currently serving over 1,300 children in 60 classrooms.

In the hour-long workshops, sonic ambassadors from the Bob Moog Foundation will lead the young attendees through a series of experiential activities designed to reinforce their engagement in science, and enhance their sense of discovery about the world around them. This endeavor is an extension of the Foundation's mission to inspire future generations by igniting creativity through science, music, and innovation - a mirror of Bob Moog's pioneering legacy.

"The Bob Moog Foundation is thrilled to be bringing our innovative science programming to the Charlotte area, in collaboration with the North Carolina Science Festival," states Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation. "We look forward to carrying Bob Moog's legacy forward by providing a day of sonic exploration for scores of elementary school students. The synergies between the Foundation's work and the mission of the Festival are many, and we are delighted to be part of this state-wide celebration of scientific discovery."

Registration for the workshops is available at http://bit.ly/DrBobsSonicWorkshop2."

"An improvised demonstration of the Sample & Hold function on the Roland System-100 semi-modular synthesizer. All sounds were recorded live from the synth. Reverb was added later. No other modifications has been made to the sounds. The style is experimental / minimal. No drums etc, just the sounds of the Roland System-100."

"This second-generation modular synth has over 120 synth building-blocks under the hood so you'll never run out of sonic possibilities. It boasts 37 keys, a mic preamp, pitch stick, mod wheel, 5 LCDs, rotary knobs, and onboard editing capabilities. The software now features reverbs, delays, string oscillators, and much more.

The G2 introduces an innovative hardware platform with a focus on live performance features. It offers fully-assignable controllers to turn, bend, and tweak--and takes real-time editing to a higher level. 4 analog audio inputs including an XLR mic input with built-in preamp give you plenty of room for inserting external signals and patching them. Crystal-clear 24-bit/96kHz A/D/A conversion ensures highest possible audio quality.

The realtime editing controls and visual feedback from the LCDs make tweaking a step sequencer fun and extremely easy. The fantastic Morph capabilities on the G2 offer enormous sonic variations. The G2's 8 Morph Groups per patch let you control sets of parameters from single internal control sources - and via MIDI. The pitch stick on the G2 can also be used to control an entire Morph Group!

Thanks to the realtime USB communication, the G2 immediately responds to your patching and follows your moves. Most of the modules are self-optimizing, meaning that they adapt their DSP load to the patched signals. The flexible modules also make it easy to alter functionality without needing to replace modules. To replace modules, just switch out the module and the cables will jump to the corresponding connections on the new module.
