Roland TR909 Factory Demo & a Deal of a Lifetime

"Did anyone know that a Roland TR909 had a factory demo track when you purchased it? I did a factory reset on mine and it has this cool uber-80s pattern

This is totally dry recorded straight into Ableton Lite via my Saffire pro audio interface , wait, it may have like 8% reverb on the hats and kick, but I am not on that computer anymore, Ill check later"

Update: Turns out this particular TR-909 was also quite a steal.  The following is an exchange I had with dude163 on how he managed to pick it up (posted with permission of course - check out my 909 story next!):

"it was a bad phone picture
an incorrect listing
" Roland analog drum machine"
and it was wrong location, by 3000KM
it looked like a scam TBH, so I emailed them ASAP as they were asking 350$
I then emailed using 2 diff addresses , and no luck
cut to the next day, I was out looking for a motorcycle maybe , and came home and as I sat down I got an email notification, from a lady who said " sorry Im at teh cottage , yes its still for sale"
so I called her up and asked her 2 questions , does it work and is it clean?
" yes and yes "
" Il be right over!!!" " Oh Im at work and live 130 KM away "
dang " what time do you get home from work? " " 515"
I was there at 520
someone else had lowballed her 300 and she turned it down , it turns out, her husbands brother used it in a CHURCH ensemble in the 90s to replace their drummer and " we didnt need a tambourine player anymore"
so it was dirty and crackly so they knocked off 50$ , so i got a TR909 for 300 dollars canadian
the strange part about the whole story was I told her that it was worth a lot more on ebay m and she sayd " I know, like 3000 but I hate ebay, such a hassle"
" Oh Ok " then she says " robert , are you a musician?"
" yes , why?"
" Ok in that case well still sell it to you for 350"
like WTF!!!!"

Drone Lab | Nosaj Thing | Moog Werkstatt Workshop

Published on Aug 7, 2015 Moog Music Inc

"At Slingshot 2015, a multi-disciplinary celebration of the arts in Athens, Georgia, Moog Music presented a unique synth-building workshop. Led by Moog Engineer Chris Howe, attendees learned the fundamentals of synthesis from the ground up by building a Werkstatt-01 analog synthesizer kit.

Once built, the 12 attendees crafted drone patches. Later that evening, Alpha Pup recording artist Nosaj Thing took control of all 12 synthesizers, adding and subtracting their signals in a long-form drone performance. The improvised result was an ever-shifting and complex soundscape.

After his performance, Nosaj Thing designed 12 evolving drones with the Werkstatt-01 that we are making available to you.

Download the Werkstatt-01 drone patches designed by Nosaj Thing at www.soundcloud.com/moogmusicinc [embed below]

Experiment with stacking and layering Nosaj Thing's Werkstatt-01 drones to create your own shifting palettes. Run them through filters and compressors, or use them as background textures to lay other sonic components on top of.

However you choose to use them, experimenting and learning will reward you with a lifetime of rich synthesizer experiences.

Extremely Rare Vintage Maxon Mariner MX-2 Keyboard Synthesizer

This one in via electraumatisme.

So how rare? I've never seen or come across one in the ten years of running MATRIXSYNTH. This appears to be the first Maxon Mariner MX-2 post on the site out of 128,070 posts on the site including this one to date. Tracking everything synth seven days a week, it's a super rare treat coming across a vintage synthesizer you've never seen before. If anyone knows more about the Mariner feel free to leave a comment. There are 14 previous Maxon posts mainly for their drum synth and effects.

The Mariner appears to have the following sections:

- Tune
- Tone Source with two oscillators
- Noise Source
- Modulator Section with one LFO and four destinations
- Resonant Filter with ENV modulation and Pitch knob
- ADSR, Transpose, Source Select, Bender Select & Portamento controls to the left of the keyboard

The description from the listing follows in French followed by a Googlish translation to English.
