Haken Continuum in depth review, and what is the Matrix...?

Published on Feb 26, 2018 loopop

"The Haken Continuum Fingerboard is a combination of an extremely sensitive surface and and powerful and complex synthesizer, tailor made to take advance of its expressive sensors. The Continuum has been refined over the past few decades by Lippold Haken, and includes an on-board synthesizer called the EaganMatrix - created by musician and sound designer Edmund Eagan.

This review goes in depth into why the Continuum stands out as a unique instrument and the various ways it can be played. I also explain in detail how its internal synth is designed around using the surface gestures to impact sound design.

The EaganMatrix contains synthesis engines far beyond traditional subtractive and FM synths, and also includes various physical modeling and additive capabilities. Presets using those various engines are shown."

KiNK Session : Modor NF-1 (part 1)

Published on Feb 26, 2018 kink303

"a very basic and honest demo with NF-1. I`m playing a chord from the midi keyboard above and then processing the pitch and the timbre with the controls of the synth. No additional processing involved, the sound is recorded in my DAW directly from NF-1`s output."

LIVE Miami Vice style old school 80s + Tutorial

Published on Feb 26, 2018 Espen Kraft

"I wanted to make something in the ballpark of Jan Hammers more slow , dark, beautiful and melancholic themes from the show.

I came up with this track called "Sheeba", and I rely heavily on digital synths and samplers from the mid 80s. Some analogs too!

The chords and sections that make up the track is explained in detail after the performance of the track so don't turn it off too soon!

The performance is held together by Roland MC50 sequencer that plays the Emax II Liquid Stack guitars while I play other parts. Half of the track is me playing the Emax live.

Bass is off the Roland S-10 sampler played live as is the Korg DW-8000s fairlight pad/strings.

The Yamaha TX802 is also played live over MIDI on the MiniNova.

Additional pads/strings and Fairlight flute is from the Roland Juno 2 and the Yamaha DX7, sequenced.

The simple but effective drums comes off the Akai S1000.

Strymon BlueSky and TC flashback handles reverb and delays.

Everything is going into a couple of Yamaha 01W digital mixers (a Behringer analog mixer does some of the synths) and piped optically into the Audient ID14 soundcard and into the DAW for recording.

Moog Mother 32 (controlled w Korg Minilogue) - Bass
Dave Smith Tempest - Drums

OTO Machines BOUM Now Available for Pre-Orders - New Sound Demos

This one in via swissdoc

The third of OTO Machines FX boxesannounced in 2014, the OTO BOUM, is now available for pre-order.

"BOUM is a full analog stereo warming unit, combining an easy-to-use compressor, a versatile distortion generator and a smooth low-pass filter. BOUM is the perfect tool when you need to add warmth, thickness, and character to your sounds, but also apply severe distortion and extreme compression treatments.

BOUM is based on an original and unique circuit, including the following stages :

INPUT GAIN : boost your signal up to +18db to adapt BOUM to various signal levels, and also improve the distortion content and the compression sensitivity.

COMPRESSOR : with a single knob, control the 3 essential parameters of a compressor, threshold, ratio and makeup gain, without thinking about how a compressor works ! The ratio ranges from 1:1 (no compression) to inf. :1 (limiter), but also negative compression up to 1: -1!

Nyx Analogue Synth (Extended Noodling)

Published on Feb 25, 2018 Jyoti Mishra

"This is a more in-depth follow up to my initial Nyx vid now that I've spent more time with the wee beastie.

It's a fabulous little synth and because of its eminent tweakability, I'll often reach for it first. That being said, I have heard a couple of people saying it's not great for "conventional" sounds which is partly why I made this further vid."

"**Has some major functional problems** - it will need work: Only one of the VCOs seems to work and the poly section is not outputing, many of the sliders and pots are scratchy, the VCF and filters seem to work correctly, all keys seem to work, the bender bar is hard to move, and the Pitch poly pot is a little warped. Still makes some cool weird sounds, but definitely not in normal working order.

Includes User and Service Manual - which include schematics, parts lists, etc..."
