"Playtime Engineering's Troy spoke with Sonic State about their latest release, the Blipblox SK2. The SK2 is a synthesizer that features the same synthesis engine as the Blipblox after dark, including wave tables, resonant multi-mode filters, and sample drums. However, the SK2 has been designed to be more kid-friendly, with a new label design, label controls, and signal flow diagram.

Troy demonstrated the SK2's sound capabilities, showcasing built-in sequences and the MIDI input that allows users to play their own sequences. Playtime Engineering has already tested the SK2 with kids and received positive feedback, with parents reporting that their children continue to play with the Blipblox after years of use.

"Playtime Engineering create synths and instruments aimed at kids, but their big colourful designs can be enjoyed by all.

Troy introduced us to the new myTracks groovestation and sampler, and it looks like a super-friendly MPC with loads of instruments pre loaded and a sequencer that can send data to other instruments, meaning you can build a small set up with the myTracks at its heart. The built in FX are controlled by the Blipblox signature chunky levers, and the whole unit is safety tested for kids aged 3 and up, but maybe we all deserve a little more playtime in our lives?

Introduced last year, the Playtime Engineering Blipblox is a synthesizer designed to be safe and fun for young children. Playtime Engineering no doubt noticed, though, that the device kept finding its way into the hands of adults: so they created Blipblox After Dark, which dispenses of the original's cryptic labeling and adds extra features that turn it into a considerably more useful tool for musicians of all ages.
