Waldorf Streichfett - Original Blade Runner theme (ish)

Published on Jul 30, 2018 alternatingbitmusic

"I haven't heard the theme in a while and obviously don't know it by heart but I felt this was similar and wanted to share, also demonstrating the rich sound of the Waldorf Streichfett which is all you hear (simply triggered via the Virus synth)"

JBS Haldane Lecture: Trevor Pinch - The Moog Synthesiser as a Technological and Sound Object

Published on Jul 2, 2018 STSUCL

"For the 2018 JBS Haldane Lecture, The Department of Science and Technology Studies at UCL is proud to present Prof. Trevor Pinch (Cornell) discussing The Moog Synthesiser as a Technological and Sound Object.

Sound Studies is a newly emergent interdisciplinary field which studies the material production, transmission, storage, and consumption of music, sound, noise, and silence and how these have changed throughout history and within different societies. In this lecture Trevor examines how a new electronic soundscape came into being with a new instrument, the Moog Electronic Music Synthesizer. He tells the story of this invention in upstate New York in 1964-9 and places it within the context of wider developments in electronic music and the counter-cultural sixties. His approach uses work in Science and Technology Studies to better understand the history of musical instruments as sounding objects, documenting how certain sounds stabilized as part of a new electronic soundscape and how other sounds failed to do so.

Professor Trevor Pinch's main research centres on three areas: the sociology of technology and how users engage with technology, sound studies and music and in particular the development of musical instruments and sound objects, markets and the economy with specific attention to the study of selling and persuasion."

Mike McGrath of Muff Wiggler Giving Buchla Music Easel Away to Save Two Lives

via @muffwiggler

"Please help me save two lives. Time is running out. Please repost everywhere. Thank you."

And an update via Mike McGrath:

"Update: thank you everyone for your kind words, love and support. We now have a candidate in Toronto being assessed and a backup in Ottawa ready to go if the current candidate doesn’t meet the bill. Things are looking up. I cannot thank you enough. ❤️❤️❤️"

Reach out to Mike if you want to be on the list in case the two candidates do not work out for whatever reason. I'd be happy to relay to Mike if you are not on Twitter or Facebook.

This Is Not Rocket Science - Edgecutter (TINRS)

Published on Jul 30, 2018 DivKidVideo

"TIMING INDEX BELOW! Just like Wobbler does for LFOs the Edgecutter from This Is Not Rocket Science takes something simple (an ADSR envelope) and pushes it beyond the norm in controls and functions. We've got trigger or gate outs for each of the phases/stages, gate, retrigger, one linear out, one curvature controlled output, CV over each stage, 3 modes (one shot, gated and gated looping) and a unique envelope ratchet at the start or end of the envelope (if you want it). Very nicely done I reckon! :)

TIMING INDEX

00:00 Hello & patch previews

00:56 Features and functions

02:41 Envelope controls - gates, shape outputs, unique curvature and ratchet functions

05:51 Looking at the 3 different modes - triggered / one shot, gated, gated looping. Also further exploration of shape and ratchet stages.

09:30 Stage / Phase outputs to control other elements of a patch. Mixing the two outs to control wavetables and VCAs and using the stage outputs to trigger external sounds.

12:40 Quick patch to show how varied the envelope is under modulation.

13:42 Velocity input - looking at the velocity input and other ways to added expression and dynamics to the envelope."

From Scratch

Published on Jul 30, 2018 Martin Peters

"It has been quiet warm here in the Netherlands for the last few weeks. So the room on the first floor under the sloping roof where my synths are located, is not a pleasant place to be: to warm. But last weekend it was somewhat cooler so I thought let's do a challenge.

So, no preparations. The Cirklon has a blank song, no sequences are pre-programmed. An let's see if I can make an acceptable song within reasonable time. I will let you be the judge if I succeeded in that.

The first sequence is on the Rob Hordijk's OSC HRM combined with a Krisp1 TZ VCO running through Synthesizers.com VCF/VCA/EG's. The second sequence is on the Tom Oberheim SEM. The third sequence (bass) is all Synthesizers.com except for the MOSLAB 904-A LPF. The fourth sequence is on the DSI Mopho. The strings are from the E-MU Vintage Keys and the Roland JD800.

Sorry for the camera position which could be turned more to the left but I noticed that afterwards. So you cannot see my right hand playing the Roland JD800.

Hope you enjoy it."
