One Small Synth, Ep. 11: Korg Monotron (modified)
Published on Nov 12, 2018 Aidan Burns-Fulkerson
"This is the eleventh installment in a micro-series diving deep into my collection of minuscule synthesizers and samplers. Each episode will explore one little noise machine.
0:00 Monotron Solo
1:33 Modification information followed by demonstration.
This is a special episode: I will be talking about the modifications of my Korg Monotron and showing the new abilities that the mods have added. I’ve added control voltage and gate jacks that are wired to the existing solder pads that Korg left open for modification.
The Korg Monotron is a great little synth that excels in weird cat sounds and screaming theremin-like solos! It sounds quite powerful for something so tiny. This was the first Monotron that Korg made. It has a single oscillator, one sawtooth LFO (can modulate the pitch or the filter cutoff) and a gritty filter with cutoff and resonance control. The ribbon controller spans slightly more than one octave, and allows for precise pitch control.
Let me know if there’s a particular synth you’d like to hear, and I’ll add it to the short list for future episodes. Enjoy!"
REPLICANT. Walforf Quantum

"'one finger soundtrack' :)
Just one note and some manual modulations/volume settings
I used 2 layers, 6 oscillators, 2 analog filter settings
Live recording. Everything comes from the Waldorf Quantum. No external FX, no external sounds.
The Waldorf Quantum is such an amazing beast.... I'm totally in love and in phase with it! I hope you'll enjoy REPLICANT!

"The Synthex was conceived and developed by independent Italian designer Mario Maggi, who then gained the financial backing of the company of Italy, who produced the synthesizer from 1981 to 1985. Elka, a company more noted for its organs, had previously introduced their Rhapsody 490, 610 string machine, the monophonic Solist 505 and the big combo organ/synth X-705. A total of 1850 units were produced. Today is a highly sought-after instrument which recently reached quotations around 8.000 UKP. It was succeeded by the Elka EK-22 (based on the CEM3396 chip which was also featured in e.g. Oberheim's Matrix line of synthesizers) and the Elka EK-44 (based on Yamaha's 4-OP FM).

"Fabulous vintage polyphonic synthesizer from the 1980s, the Roland Jupiter 6 is an incredible analog instrument. All of the Jupiters have a sound that was unlike any other synthesizer and the Jupiter 6 is no exception. This sound is due in part to classic analog Roland technology in its filters, modulation capabilities and a thick cluster of 12 analog oscillators at 2 per voice. Easy and intuitive programming via front panel sliders, knobs and buttons for all your tweaking needs. 61 key keyboard.
This Jupiter 6 is in excellent condition, fully functional and plays great. It has all slider caps. It includes photocopies of the operation and service manuals / schematics, plus power cable..."
