Behringer MS-101 Sound Demo (no talking)

It's NAMM Time!

It's that time of year again. To stay afloat everything goes up as it comes in. A few quick tips:

1. Use the NAMM! label at the top of the site to get to NAMM posts or just click on the NAMM2019 label at the bottom of any NAMM post.

2. Click on the manufacturer labels at the bottom of posts to get to more. Chances are there are more posts on any given synth.

3. Use the search box on the top right of the site to search for specific synths you are interested it.

4. Remember to click the NEXT PAGE link at the bottom of the front page to get to previous posts.

5. Click the title of posts to get to the full post if want to skip the "click for more" links in posts on the front page. I use them to keep scrolling on the front page manageable.

6. Other posts do tend to get pushed back in the queue including auction posts. You can always click on the eBay and Reverb links up top to keep up if auctions are your thing. Those are the actual links I use to parse eBay and Reverb for interesting items to post, along with items supporters of the site send in directly.

Waldorf Music Announces New "Kernel" Synth Engine for the Quantum V 2.0 Update

Update: You might have to read the following press release more than once to fully grasp the update. In short, it sounds like for each of the three Quantum oscillators, there will be a fifth waveform option from Vision 4 Instruments (note this post is also an introduction to Vision 4 Instruments) that allows you to stack up to six new oscillator types. They can then be cross modulated in various ways within each of the three oscillators. Based on the following press release I do not believe this update includes the ability to extend cross mod functionality to the existing Qantum oscillator types, or across the three separate oscillators. The kernal modulations appear to happen within each oscillator. It's like having three new synth engines within each oscillator.

The press release follows:

"Waldorf Music makes major update for flagship Quantum Synthesizer statement with new venture Vision 4 Instruments

REMAGEN, GERMANY: having turned heads and opened ears at The 2018 NAMM Show with its innovative Quantum Synthesizer flagship, this time high-quality synthesizer developer Waldorf Music makes a return trip to announce an upcoming update to the Quantum Synthesizer’s firmware, focused around a new synthesis capability created in close collaboration with fellow German company Vision 4 Instruments — itself a new and exciting venture, providing future-facing hard- and software platforms for electronic musical instruments — at The 2019 NAMM Show, January 24-27, in Anaheim, California…

The latest (version 2.0) free firmware for the flagship Quantum Synthesizer incorporates new venture Vision 4 Instruments’ future- facing Kernel synthesis engine. Extending capabilities above and beyond the four — Wavetable, Waveform, Resonator, and Particle (classic and granular sampling) — synthesis engines already available at the Quantum Synthesizer’s super-creative core, Kernel provides a fifth option for each of the three oscillators in its oscillator section.

So what, exactly is Kernel synthesis? Simply speaking, it is a modular approach in which up to six audio kernels can be freely combined into a single oscillator. Effectively, each kernel is an oscillator in its own right, realising a whole range of timbres — from using sine and classic waveforms via wavetables through to samples and noise. For example, users could combine three wavetables with a sample, a sine wave, and noise within a single Quantum Synthesizer oscillator.

Experimental Patches For the Sequential Prophet Rev2 by Audio Cookbook

"Custom designed patch from the AudioCookbook Experimental Sound Set for the Sequential Prophet Rev2"

via Audio Cookbook

"Although I haven’t mentioned it here, I have had a 16 voice Sequential Prophet Rev2 since November 23, 2018. In the last two months I have programmed a full bank of 128 patches for the instrument. This isn’t something I would normally do for any instrument. For most instruments I program a handful of patches that I need, or simply create or modify the patches as I work in the studio.

So why spend two months creating 128 patches? One reason why is because the scope of timbral possibilities is vast. One can create glistening, glassy, and bright tones or contrasting warm and dark sounds just as easily as one another. Secondly the process of creating patches is fun with minimal menu diving. Thirdly, if the patches are received well I’ll offer them for sale as a downloadable set."

PPG WAVE 2.2 Synthesizer - Ambient Piano Music Soundscape 【SYNTH DEMO】

Published on Jan 23, 2019 synth4ever

"Playing an ambient piano music soundscape on PPG Wave 2.2 digital / analog hybrid synthesizer.

This ambient PPG Wave synth demo and music features a repeating motif, filter, pitch and envelope modulation, and long decay times.

The PPG Wave 2.2 is a wavetable synthesizer created by Wolfgang Palm and features digital samples/oscillators + analog SSM filters. It can sound very spacey and ethereal, or lo-fi and crunchy.

In this piece I focused on adjusting the PPG filter to open and close over time to highlight harmonics in the sound. The PPG Wave 2.2 is a lovely vintage hybrid synth and can create some great ambient soundscapes.

All sounds in this music are from the PPG Wave 2.2 synth with a very small amount of reverb added."
