Insect attracted to sound

"The insect seemed intrigued by the sound coming out of Scrotum Lab's Mini-case Three!
A few minutes later I saw it walking on a branch on top of me after I moved to another place:"

Rucci Maximal Drone (x2), Strat, Moog DFAM (x2)

Published on Jun 2, 2019 Kris Lennox

"I was speaking to Michael a few weeks ago RE his instruments. I noticed his Maximal Drone a while back, but had picked up other gear in the meantime. I got round to ordering some of his items, which arrived yesterday. I'll possibly post some music with some of the other toys in the near future.

Warning to UK residents: I paid almost £60 just on customs charges (!). Postage alone added up to the price of a reverb pedal.

The Maximal sounds great. Quite lo-fi, but when ran through some outboard, it really comes to life. When I head it, to my ear it was begging for some guitar. Nothing complex or technical, just textural for setting the mood/feel.

The guitar is a '94 Strat ran through a Mesa TC-50. Great sound. Every note comes through clean; no distortion-blurring. I didn't film the guitar part, given it is just a few chords. Also opting to keep the video all-synth.

The DFAM section is quite the contrast to the sense of freedom of the first half.

Interesting meter in this piece (15/8).

Enjoy
Kris"

ENSONIQ MIRAGE AS A FLAVOR

Published on Jun 1, 2019 100 Things I Do

"Some new exploration with the Ensoniq Mirage!

I thought I would share this week what happens if you take a sound into the Mirage at the lowest (longest) sample rate.

I am using the Eventide Black Hole reverb to give more of an idea how I would use it in a mix or stand alone. The most interesting sample is where I have the compressor running a little too strong and bring up the noise of a spinning hard drive by accident into the tail of the sound."

"Vintage Gibson Maestro G2 "Rhythm 'N Sound" Synthesizer from the 1960's. Some of the pots are a bit scratchy but, the unit is in GREAT shape as the pictures will show - complete with case, foot pedal and original instructions overlay!

Cool vintage effect unit that lets you add one or more voicings to create some really interesting textures and sounds. They're kinda cheesy but classic! Bongo, Brush, Tambourine, & Clave percussion sounds.
String bass lower octave doubler sounds killer!

Has an awesome nasty fuzz tone that really makes this unit Da BOMB!!

Add unique sound overlays - Color Tones (preset EQ settings), Wow Wow (Wah) and Echo Repeat (tremolo) with speed control.

Overall it's a VERY clean effect unit that has a killer vintage tone and would be excellent for a few studio tricks."

SSL Trio Demo - OLD LEATHER

Published on Jun 1, 2019 davidryle

"A demo of the trio of modules from Synthetic Sound Labs.

They are the V-Gates digital/analog sequence gate control, the Octal VCA module and the envelope Expander module.

This is a very simple example of using the V-Gates in digital mode and random function to send gate signals to the envelope expander which is controlling the choice of notes from a four part chord set (root, third, fifth and seventh).

The second channel of the V-Gates is sending a trigger to mix with the downbeat trigger for the kick drum.

The 5th and 6th channels of the octal vca and expander are controlled externally from some clock timings for the bass and root doubled to an echo.

These modules are available from Synthetic Sound Labs in 5U format at...
www.steamsynth.com

This is a opening demonstration of the trio of modules. There is a lot more going on in the patch which I will not take the time to describe. The audio is a real-time recording of the patch direct to Cubase in one take. These modules have much more elegant potential for musical control than I could impart here. I plan to use them extensively in the future.

Thanks for listening."
