DSI Pro 3, iPad Pro Samplr, Drumbrute Impact - Distortion Improv Jam - Tefty & Meems

Published on Apr 8, 2020 Tefty & Meems

Spotted this one on discchord.

"This jam we test out the DSI Pro 3 synth and an iPad Pro app Samplr for the first time in a gritty, more distorted jam. The Drumbrute Impact has separate outs routed to the Mackie board and having the inputs distorting in the red. Same with the Pro 3, the inputs are clipping the Mackie board."

Overview at 3:15.

Here's that Hainbach video they mention:

Using overdrive creatively: preamps, pedals, plugins, test equipment

Premiered Mar 30, 2020 HAINBACH

"In which I detail ways to overdrive signals to make synth and drum machine recordings more engaging - from subtle gain shaping with vintage mixers to all out nuclear test equipment destruction, as well pedals, plugins and modules."

Roland Sales Sheets / Brochures Folder

A few pics in via Corey who plans to eventually scan these.

"I have a friend that used to work as a salesman at Roland back in the day. He recently gave me a copy of his old notebook of sales sheets that cover some really interesting and historical synths (and drum machines)."

I thought it was pretty cool/interesting to see them all in a folder like this. I'll be sure to post any more Corey sends in.

Update: scans going up here.

Dave Bessell Reality Engine DiN62

Release date 17th April 2020

Limited to 500 copies Digipak CD

Bar Code 5028423200628

Dave Bessell is a familiar name for followers of the DiN label for his previous solo release, “Black Horses Of the Sun” (DiN47), his two collaborations with Parallel Worlds (DiN41 & 56) and being a founder member of synth supergroup Node (DiN44 & 55).

This latest downtempo electronica solo release sees Bessell indulge his passion for literature in compositions inspired by the writings of Jorge Luis Borges, the Brothers Grimm and Lord Dunsany. The tracks are coloured with a strong flavour of magic realism - think “Pan’s Labyrinth” or “The Science Of Sleep”. Sonically “Reality Engine” draws on a whole variety of musical influences, from classical to psybient taking in innovative analogue modular sound design and expansive evolving musical journeys along the way. Bessell often uses unusual instrumentation alongside his analogue and modular synths and here he uses the beautiful Aum guitar to stunning effect. Full of engaging atmospheric moods and distinctive melodies, the album contains a wealth of detail that repays repeated listenings.

The album also comes with downloadable links (via Bandcamp) to specially created 3D environments that can be viewed in virtual reality (or can be navigated around with a mouse if you don't have access to a VR headset). You can see an example here: https://tinyurl.com/wtka5b3

This new album showcases once again the simply unique voice of this talented electronic music composer.

Novation // Synth Snackables: Legowelt - Peak: as a hurdy gurdy

Published on Apr 9, 2020 NovationTV

"Our Synth Snackables series invites you into the studios of talented and knowledgeable artists, and shows you staple tips, elaborate techniques and imaginative approaches for synth patch design.

For our first Synth Snackable session, we spent a day with Dutch artist Legowelt whose vast musical style spans many different worlds – some real, some imagined – and is designed in a unique and captivating way that keeps his listeners enthralled. His wealth of production knowledge and experience have been turned into five quick tips to help you push the boundaries of Peak.

In this video, beginning with the basis of the hurdy gurdy, Legowelt puts Peak into monophonic mode and assigns the fixed note function to play the same note with two oscillators. Now with the third oscillator free to play a higher note, Legowelt shows how you can quickly create a “jolly” medieval drone.

'Of course we can make it much more interesting.' Creating movement with filter envelopes, adding multiple LFO modulation and assigning pitch range to the two oscillators, Legowelt shows you can build on the basic hurdy gurdy to create a deepened historical-inspired melody.
