AJH Synt Gemini 2412 Dual Eurorack Filter - How I use it...

DreamsOfWires

"As promised, and since lots of people have asked me about this filter; a video focusing on the Gemini 2412 and some examples of how I use it. I've had it for 2 years and I'm still discovering more things it can do, so this video only scratches the surface.

Some comments I've recieved showed concern over the size of the VCF (28hp), but this is really the same as buying two fully featured, SEM-inspired multi-mode filters (low pass, band pass, high pass, even notch), and a voltage controlled cross-fader, so all things considered it packs a lot in that space, without compromising build quality or playability (controls are well-spaced and not too small).

KORG NAUTILUS YAMAHA MODX Back To Back DEMO pt2

Woody Piano Shack

"Enjoy the fabulous sounds of the KORG NAUTILUS and YAMAHA MODX Synthesizer Workstation played back to back. In this video I tried to find less synth sounds and favoured acoustic sounds, piano, organ, orchestral, strings drums and more. When I found an inspiring preset I improvised the first idea that came to mind. See my previous video for more of the electronic and synth sounds.

Coming soon, my review and comparison of the NAUTILUS vs the MODX. I hope this video is helpful if you are choosing to purchase one of these as it demos the sound character and quality of each keyboard."

Part 1 here. Additional demos here.

Just Yamaha SY-1 Analog Synth Playing (No Talking)

Synth & Sundry

"The Yamaha SY-1 from 1974 was Yamaha's first synthesizer. It's single VCO design offered both the convenience of some presets and perfunctory analog sybtractive synthesis controls. The user interface takes queues from the organ designs of the time, which makes sense, since the SY-1 was conceived as an accessory for those.

What is pretty incredible about this vintage synth is that in spite of its simple design, the Yamaha SY-1 has aftertouch which it makes it an extremely expressive analog keyboard.

NOTE: This video has two synth takes overdubbed.

"A couple of weeks ago I got my Oberheim OB-Mx back from repairs after it has been in repair for a year. There are 3 voicecards inside, each containing 2 voices, so it has 6 voices in total. But 1 of these voicecards could not be tuned anymore. The repair-shop could not find the problem so I still have 1 voicecard I cannot use.

Anyways, this video starts with the Oberheim OB-Mx having the VCA's opened playing a G minor chord. The Minimoog solo comes in and there is a sort of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' deja-vu. The Polymoog with the Behringer VP1 Phaser accompanies the Minimoog. After that some tones are added from the Synthesizers.com Modular, Oberheim SEM and Korg ARP Odyssey with the VCA's opened. Then the sequences start, adding the Joranalogue Generate 3 and Mutable Instruments Plaits. It all builds up to a climax where the Odyssey plays some notes. And after that it all fades out to nothing.

The track was recorded live to multi-track on the Behringer X32 Compact and mixed in Studio One afterwards. The mix only involves some gain staging, EQ and compression. No track edits where performed and no automation was used.

I hope you will enjoy it

"Motor Synth is an analogue, electro-mechanical synthesizer that uses a system of electromotors as its main sound source.

Motor Synth is a new method of analogue audio signal generation, since controlled electromotors have never been used as the principal sound source for a commercial musical instrument, nothing like this has ever been built before!

Motor Synth produces sounds by accelerating and decelerating eight electromotors to precise rpm (revolutions per minute) that correspond with specific musical notes. The instrument’s eight-electromotor configuration makes it a four-note true polyphonic synth with two voices per key played.

The Motor Synth has two ways of producing its core sound.

Firstly, magnetic pickups are placed on each of its eight electromotors; the spinning coils result in a very industrial-sounding, over-the-top analogue tone. Think eight harmonious revving engines pumping out an intimidating noise!

Secondly, specially designed reflective optical disks have been attached to the shafts of each electromotor. Each disk contains a graphical representation of three standard audio wave-shapes. As the electromotors spin, the disks are set into circular motion, and each wave-shape is read by a dedicated set of infrared sensors, then converted into an audio signal. Thus, the wave-shapes on the reflective optical disks become precise musical notes, corresponding to the speed of the electromotors."
