Make Noise Strega

video by MAKEN0ISE

Follow-up to this post featuring an interview with Alessandro Cortini.

"Make Noise is proud to introduce Strega!

Strega is an audio alchemical experiment. Activate! Spill the tonic into time and let time decay through the filter to hear the results.

Strega is an instrument designed in collaboration with Alessandro Cortini. Inspired by Cortini's music and sonic experimentations, Strega embodies the seen and unseen, the sign and magic, the alchemy of sound.
Strega is able to conjure audio tones, generate control signals, and process external sounds. Patch the 0-COAST or any other line level source into the Strega to unlock new sounds!

This new instrument takes the same form factor as the 0-COAST and 0-CTRL. It was designed to be controlled by the 0-CTRL or the 0-COAST's MIDI CV B outputs and is equally happy interfacing with Eurorack modules as well.

- Patchable with 7 sources and 13 destinations
- Touch Bridges and Gateways for momentary modulation routings
- Compatible w/ Eurorack Modular Synthesizer Signals
- Input for combining with or processing outside sounds
- Includes patch cables, output cable, and AC Adapter
- Headphone and Line Level Amplifier as well as Eurorack Output
- Small Rugged Steel Enclosure
- Same form factor as 0-Coast and 0-CTRL

Dimensions: 5.5 x 9 x .75 inches
Weight: 1.7lbs

Track: Shelter (feat. Xavier Radix) - Synthwave on Akai MPC, Motor Synth, Peak, EX5

video by

"Here's a #synthwave track done on the Akai MPC One, #motorsynth and Novation PEAK. Sidechaining! Gated drums! Tons of synths! Wicked 80s hair metal guitar solo and phatt riffs! Wub wub bass! Jan Hammer-inspired synth sequences! It's all in here. :-)

Guitar by Xavier Radix (see link below). Recorded, mixed and mastered on Zoom R24 #dawless. This is the MPC One in song mode controlling the EX5, PEAK and Motor Synth via MIDI. The song is made up from 14 patterns on the MPC one, which I merged into one long pattern and added the guitar and the vocal track to. Basically, all you need to do then is to press play in song mode and capture the audio output on a recording device (if you're using only MPC, you can also render the output to a WAV file internally). For the sake of this video, I adjusted filter settings and played some notes "live". :-)

MPC One is doing all the heavy lifting here, Motor Synth is doing the "filtered choir" sound in the second verse. EX5 is doing the "rain pad" in the 2nd verse. PEAK is doing the arpeggiated sequencer line. I don't know which effects Xavier had on his guitar, but it sounds pretty awesome.

Shared System Tutorials | Part 31 | The Strega Patch

video by Cinematic Laboratory

"I was very impressed when I saw the new MakeNoise Strega tabletop synth with Alessandro Cortini on the SonicState channel. I used some footage without permission, but this is an educational video, I am not monetizing my stuff and it's not harming anyone's revenue. Not even posting on FB. I just wanted to dive in, recreate that awesome sound on the Shared System and share it in this series. It's really cool to figure out how an instrument like the Strega gets from an idea to a real instrument and I bet the Shared has been a source of inspiration for many of its parts. I can't help hearing a lot of makenoise modules combined in this great new tabletop and I was intrigued by the fact that it used a clear Echophon pitched delay many people seem to abandon and replace with Mimeophon. As for Strega, I think it sounds like a 'old, new, borrowed, blue' marriage thing. It has the amazing sound of an STO, 0-Coast and DPO but there's seems no technology involved that had to be developed from scratch. It's a cool way to clean out some old Echophon chips and give them a second life. Have fun and let's hope the Strega (Witch) will hit the stores soon!"

Electronic (toothbrush) Music | Moog Grandmother, Sonicare Toothbrush

video by Chris Hunt

Note the above is a playlist with additional music videos by Chris Hunt. Many feature Synthstrom Audible's Deluge.

"After years of daily practice, I'm pleased to present my first piece with the Sonicare electric toothbrush. In normal 'cleaning mode' it operates at a perfect C4. In this piece, I have toggled the toothbrush to 'whitening mode' to move that up to an E4. This is accompanied by some layers on the Moog Grandmother."

Sinevibes Droplet v2 - Raindrop Delay

video by Sinevibes

"Droplet is a raindrop delay effect developed by Sinevibes. Available as AU+VST plugin for Mac. Product page: https://www.sinevibes.com/droplet/"

"Droplet is a delay modeling engine for creating “raindrop delay” effects. It is based on 32 stereo delay lines connected in series via a proportional feedback system, with each delay’s time and stereo pan being randomized in order to produce a natural sound similar to water drops falling onto a surface. The wide parameter range, as well as low- or high-frequency feedback damping, allow Droplet to produce a huge variety of effects – not just its trademark raindrop delay but also lush reverb and resonator simulations. The built-in modulation oscillator adds a unique dimension and unison detune to the sound, thanks to its unique flipped-polarity routing. And thanks to the fact that the randomization seed is generated each time the plugin is loaded, just like the natural process it’s modeling, every instance of Droplet will always sound different."
