Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge: Periodic Table...Element: Oxygen (WIP)

video upload by SynthAddict

"Maschine+ with some special guitar libraries (just sound samples - I did all the playing).
Inspired by a song I loved as a kid… Sweet’s (or The Sweet’s) Love Is Like Oxygen - not a cover, just heavily inspired with a surprise inside.
I planned a lot for this jam, and ran out of time to make all the parts to jam with, so this is the WIP version. :-)
Maybe Mendeleev and Avogadro are smiling somewhere…"

"Completely serviced by wellknown dutch top tech (with invoice)
Great state, great sound and complete with lid/hardcase.

The DS-2 is basically a monosynth with an added 44-voice polyphonic strings section. The DS-2 uses DCOs (digitally controlled osc.) making it stable in tune. That isn't to say it can't sound fat...it can. Especially if you use the polyphonic string section and apply some slow LFO modulation to the pitch. This is a very big and good looking synth with a lot of knobs for instant hands-on control. And you don't need a hardcase, it's built into one. Just lift the cover and there it is.

It has two nice LFOs, one with S&H and staircase waveforms. You can use either or both LFOs for modulation of Osc 1, Osc 2, VCF and the VCA. Pulse-width can be set manually or modulated by either LFO. The VCF is killer, it has a nice Moog sound in it that fattens up the sound. The two ADSRs are very fast so there's no problem making bass and drum sounds with it. It has an external input for processing other sounds through its lovely filter too."

Dreadbox Hades Reissue - Bass Synth - Sonic LAB review

video upload by sonicstate

"It's no secret that we've enjoyed the synthesizers from Greek synth makers Dreadbox. Their instruments have a certain something that makes them stand apart.
The Hades is the reissue of the original 2016 Analog Bass Synth. With a single oscillator and their unique resonant filter plus the OTA Drive, the Hades has a lot of character.
We take a look.

Hardware jam setup with Play, Nymphes, 0-Coast and pedals - Polyend, Dreadbox, Make Noise

video upload by Stazma

"Today I'm showing you a cool setup I put together for jam session. Based around the Polyend Play, I use midi and midi to cv converters to control a Nymphes from Dreadbox and a 0-Coast from Make Noise, plus using a few pedals for mixing, echo and reverb.
I'll explain to you how it all works!

Have fun y'all!"

The One Ring Theme on Roland RS-202 stringer

video upload by MIDERA

"Some friends are swapping gear and using my place to swap as neither live near each other... so right now I'm sitting with a Roland RS-202 for a bit (don't worry, I was allowed to test it out and provide feedback).

As you may know - I also have a Yamaha SK30 that I can't seem to bring myself to part with. And of course I figured why not see how they compare. Once they were next to each other, I could really tell where they differed. I would say the Roland RS-202 is 'silky' and has a very pleasing sound to it. The Yamaha SK30 is a bit harsher I guess. But they're very very different in almost every other way.

The RS-202 has basically no controls except 'tone', a few switches for brass or string sounds, vibrato, and sustain. It does have a wonderful sounding ensemble effect with two settings.

The SK30 has an envelope for the shared single filter on the polysynth, an organ section, tremolo and ensemble effects (they don't sound as good as the RS-202 ensemble), a fairly complex and robust routing system, detuning, and my personal favorite, the solo section which is a really nice sounding single VCO monosynth.

Also, the SK30 is like 3X bigger than the RS-202. I really dislike how large the SK30 is.

Well, here's all I could think to write, and it's not even mine. It's from the Lord of the Rings... but I'm guessing you knew that.

I used the Strymon Volante pedal and Eventide Blackhole VST."
