Electric Independence: Vince Clarke and the Temple of Synth

"The new episode of Electric Independence documents a visit to Vince Clarke's incredible home studio that features more analog gear than, well, probably anyone we've ever encountered. The founding member of Depeche Mode, Yazoo, and Erasure is enjoying the country life in Maine but still cranks out the jams, or as he likes to put it 'making something from nothing.'"
Vince Clark of Depeche Mode, Yaz/Yazoo and Erasure.

  1. I'm from Portland - that's not actually Portland - I'm guessing South Portland, maybe Falmouth or further out... Sebago. Probably protecting his privacy.

  3. Sure he's got just about every synth ever made, but is he happy?

    Just asking...

  4. A possible contender for the best post ever on Matrixsynth. Maybe? It actually makes me feel a bit nervous just watching it. I studied the Keyboard magazine issue where they featured his old studio. Even more impressive in this space. To all the synth-dusters and collectors, let this be a lesson to you. These instruments are meant to be used! Stop hording them & driving the prices up! :)

  5. An amazing artist for sure.

He has his mad scientist lab but I bet he'll live his golden years fishing.

  6. This is killer! I love the bit where he says he's not really a collector anymore! What did he used to have???

  7. That's a great interview! I like how down to earth he is and the fact that he is aware of how lucky he is. He's not a pompous arse like most stars become. Great post!

  10. He doesn't list the Buchla 100 that he's sitting in front of in his gear list. I wonder if it's on loan.
