Jordan Passmore Techno demo of MT-40, EM-1, DrumStation and ST-224

Published on Apr 20, 2013 Jordan Passmore·53 videos

"Here is a demo I created of the Korg Electribe EM-1, Casio MT-40, Novation Drumstation, and Zoom SampleTrak ST-224. The EM-1 is doing the sequencing + bass/short stab sound + some percussion, the Casio is doing the square-wave lead tones, the Novation is doing the 909/808ish sounds and the SampleTrak is simply effecting the Casio with it's effects section (I will do a more exhaustive demo of the SampleTrak soon). The Casio is also being ran through a stereo analog chorus and analog delay. There is some compression done with a Roland MMP-2 on the master channel. The entire segment was mixed on a Tascam M-1600 mixing desk."

"It is one of the later models from the early 80's, having the sync-in sequencer connection. Some people think that it sounds as good as the Mininoog, but with programmable memory, and more stable tuning. It is the first Moog to have a touch panel and data knob for control. MIDI can be added easily, but not included. Power cord is included..."

"Korg Monotribe with MIDI and separate drum outputs. This unit is in excellent functional and cosmetic shape. The MIDI input will sync the clock to an external source or the unit's synthesizer and drum sections can be played via a MIDI controller. (The synthesizer responds to channel 1 and the drums to channel 10.) The unit ran in perfect sync with Logic. There are three separate outputs for the bass, snare, and hi-hat sections. Two added knobs at the top control drum decay and a ring modulation between the bass and snare drums. Two added switches toggle between three separate settings for the snare and hi-hats sections. This auction includes the Modified Monotribe, original box, and manual..."

Bug Brand AudioWeevil08

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction
Pic of the schematics below.

"The AudioWeevil08 was hand-built in small quantities by Bug Brand Audio Electronics in Bristol and released in October 2008. The units cost £198 and all sold out almost immediately.

Building on the success of the Weevil08, the AudioWeevil08 builds even more features (see the block diagram above) and is both a synth-sound generator and an audio processor - with the usual Bug Brand chaos possibilities thrown in too!

Includes
AudioWeevil08 in dark green
Data sheet/Schematic diagram
Original Bug Brand badge
6 x rechargeable AA batteries
Features

Dark green, slope-mounted case
Battery power only (due to the touch controls) - running off 6 AA batteries in the panel compartment mounted underneath. Bug Brand state that the battery life should be at least forty hours with decent batteries (including rechargeables).
1/4" mono output jack
Audio Input through a CMOS Overdrive/Distortion - a powerful input (1/4" mono jack) suitable for guitar or line levels. There are two levels of drive offering clean or distorted sounds. The distortion crunches really nicely!
Variable Response Wasp-style Filter - the filtering on the AudioWeevil is now full of character! Based on the famous old-school Wasp synth and offering variable Resonance / Q, Cutoff + LFO Modulation and Low/Band/Highpass outputs. There's a mixer going into it for balancing the Thru (Audio Input) and Ring (Weevil Sonics). There's also an output level control before 1/4" mono output jack.
Twin Oscillator Weevil Heart - this is the screechy ringmod centre of synthesis with many features. There are two lo-fi square wave oscillators (one with LFO modulation) with Hi / Lo rate ranges which feed into a quasi-ringmod. The 2nd osc can be switched over to accept the squared audio input for weird-assed ringmod processing. Added onto this are controls for: Power Starvation (with Stable or Instable modes), Ringmod Feedback (with three way routing switch) and an output Comparator to give stable levels even when starved.
Modulation LFO - Osc1 and the Filter can be modulated by the wide-range tri/saw LFO. The two rate ranges offer modulation from superslow to audiorate and the waveform is switchable from Saw to Triangle to Ramp. There are independent modulation depth controls for the Osc and Filter.
Screen printed Frontpanel with Contact Points - the professional frontpanel labels all functions clearly (13 dials, 10 switches) and presents a total of 16 body contact points allowing touchy chaos control of the machine - lick your fingers!
There can often be a bit of weevil-signal feedthrough to the audio input even with the Ring mix turned right down. This is most apparent with high input gains, but various settings can minimize any effects.
Dimensions

22 cm (width)
14 cm (depth)
5 cm - 9 cm (height)

Please note: This is not a 'normal' musical instrument - have a listen to these demo mp3s (recorded straight with no effects) for an idea of the sounds the AudioWeevil08 is capable of:

Sonics just from the internals
Guitar Ebow drone process
TR606 Drum-machine process

The photographs above are of the actual AudioWeevil08 for sale."

Roland MPU101 Midi to CV Converter 561461

via this auction

"Controls up to four individual synths with various modes and trigger functions.

For example the 4 voice button will trigger each synth sequentially eg:- if you have four CV synths connected the first note of the midi sequence or arpeggio that is input will be played by synth one, the second note of the sequence or arpeggio will be played by synth two etc... etc... > fifth not will again trigger synth one etc...etc... as you might imagine the range of possibilities are endless and this can produce some very unique
and amazing sequences with the onus obviously on the expertise of the synthesist in question to produce the magic from the various synths connected.

The same type feature also exists for two and three voices if you have two or three synths connected.

MIDI TO CV INTERFACE
The MPU-101 is unique in that it converts MIDI data into analog signals. When the MPU-101 is connected to a MIDI sending unit, a conventional 1 –
volt/octave Cv/gate synthesizer such as the SH-101, SH-2, SH-5, SH-07, System-100M etc... can be controlled by MIDI data.
Other voltage-controlled devices can also be controlled. For example, you can automatically synchronize lighting equipment with your performance.
The gate signals can also be used as trigger signals to control a percussion sound source like the Boss PC-2 or HC-2, a sampling unit such as the Boss DSD-2, or a digital delay, for example the Boss DE-200.
The MPU-101 can expand your MIDI system's potential just as much as your imagination allows.
The MPU-101 has four output channels, each with pitch control voltage, gate signal, and dynamics control signal outputs. Up to four CV synthesizers can be controlled by MIDI data.
ln addition to the key information, other MIDI data including velocity. bender modulation, after touch, and volume information is converted into analog signals. Complicated MIDI data can completely be converted.
The MID channel can be assigned to one of 1 to 16.
Five operation modes are provided for a variety of applications.

1. Mono Mode: Four CV synthesizers can be controlled by MIDI data transmitted on four different MIDI channels.
The bass, melody, and other parts of a composition played by different CV synthesizers can be controlled by MIDI data transmitted on different MIDI channels.

2. 2-Voice Mode: MIDI data for up to two notes is converted into CV/gate signals and comes through outputs 1 and 2.

3. 3-Voice Mode: MIDI data for up to three notes is converted into CV/gate signals and comes through outputs 1, 2, and 3

4. 4-Voice Mode: MIDI data for up to four notes is converted into CV/gate signals and comes through outputs 1, 2, 3, and 4.

5. Special Mode: MIDI data for the highest note, the lowest note. and the latest note is converted and comes through different outputs.

A MIDI Out jack is provided in addition to the MIDI In and Thru jacks. Up to 8 CV synthesizers can be controlled by combining two MPU-101's.

When the connected MIDI sending unit is in the poly mode, three different assign modes are accessible, then the MIDI key information can be assigned to four outputs in three different ways. An Octave

Transpose function simultaneously shifts the pitch control voltage of four CV outputs one octave up or down.

A Gate Indicator on each output channel confirms the flow of the gate signals."

Audio sources are just the sine wave outputs from the MakeNoise DPO and two intelljel dixie's running into two Optomix's. The two outputs are then is sent into the Echophon and phonogene then through the eventide space pedal. The output signal from the percussion box is running into the Grainsburg VCA then from there into the Mungo g0 granular processing module creating the crispy high end granulated textures.

Dirty Electronics Sonar 20th Anniversary Synth

Dirty Electronics Sonar 20th Anniversary Synth from Dirty Electronics on Vimeo.

"The Dirty Electronics Sonar 20th Anniversary Synth is an ultra minimal pocket-sized synth, black finished with silver-plated etched Sonar logo. The synth has a 20-step sequencer to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Sonar (one step for each year). The instrument comes with pre-written sequenced patterns that can be either listened to in their own right or ‘played’ (mashed-up, parts of the sequence looped, tempo changed, noise and feedback added, etc.). The synth is played by running fingers across the letters of the Sonar logo and is designed for headphone listening or line out. Bit bashing meets analogue noise and crumpled grooves.

All sounds from the Sonar 20th Anniversary Synth with some edits and processing.

Analogue Systems RS-390 Echo Demo

Published on Apr 20, 2013 pjoris2·16 videos

"I seem to have acquired a lot of eurorack delays. So I thought, let's make some demos. These are however a lot of work. I also note I have a lot of dust on my modular! But anyway: here is the first: a demo of the Analogue Systems RS-390 echo (digital delay). I got bored with filming the synth itself, so I added a few shots of the vegetable patch on my balcony ... Probably next demo will be the Pittsburgh Analog Delay. But don't hold you breath, this may take a while.

Any suggestions for other patches to try are welcome."

Quad 8b 32 Channel Analog Sequencer Gate Delay & Clock Divider Test 4mc6

Published on Apr 20, 2013 pieruixmaster .·30 videos

"The 8X4QSMA1 Quad 8b Analog Sequencer. There are 4 banks of 8 channels, fully separate from one another. Each bank has their own External Clock input, Internal Clock control, Gate, Trigger and Portamento CV Output. Bank A has an S-Trigger output. All output jacks are "Switchcraft (USA)" 1/4 inch.

Features of the Quad 8b Analog Sequencer/Controller:

There's a Clock Divider that will divide the clock input as high as X4096. Send the Clock signal into the Ext/Clk input on the Sequencer. You may select the divisions marked on the selector switch. (Gray/White) Control knob. The divisions are: X,X/2,X/4,X8,X16,X32,X64,X128,X256,X1024,X2048 and X4096. The sequencer will also send that clock signal (selectable on all 4 banks) to operate any or all the banks clock.

Each bank has 12 selectable clock control settings. The first 4 selections will allow you to use any of the banks individual clocks. Each bank has their own manual clock control. The 12 settings for each bank will let you set the clock (for that bank) control: Example: If you want to have Bank A's clock control Bank C at the same time, you'd set the Clock selector from Bank C to run off of Bank A on the selector switch. If you want to have Bank A's clock from Bank's B,C & D, you select A on their Clock selector switch. Now Bank A's manual Clock control will now control all four banks. In sync with each other. There is a Master Reset on the "Off/On/Reset" switch. When pushed up (momentary) it will reset the complete system.

All voltage outputs are Low to High, (Except for the S-Trig, that is High to Low). Master voltage can be selected to be a 5 Volt system or a 12 Volt system. The CV/Output will now put out 0 to 5.45 Volts DC or 0 to 11.50 Volts DC. 12 Volt power adapter is included. For European voltages you will need an adapter to change from 240Vac to 120Vac.

Make Noise Maths as Oscillator

Published on Apr 20, 2013 pjoris2·16 videos

"I know this patch has been done a lot of times, but I like it and was glad I figured out to do it - so here is my version. This was inspired by reading the Serge Creature manual.
The patch uses a CV keyboard (or midi interface) + the Make Noise Maths:
- Keyboard gate to Channel 2 of Maths
- Keyboard CV to Channel 3 of Maths
- Sum of Maths to Both CV input of Channel 1
- Take audio from main output of Channel 1
Control is:
- Scaling of Channel 2 controls pitch offset.
- Scaling of Channel 3 controls tracking (at max. my maths tracks a little under 1 oct/V).
- Shape and frequency of the waveform controlled by rise, fall and waveform of channel 1
As the pitch drops to subaudio levels when the gate is down, the sound is shaped by the gate of the keyboard. The oscilloscope shows the different shapes you get for the waveform."
