"Here's a fun little ditty on the Yamaha PS-55 keyboard from 1983. This instrument was made before FM synthesis took over Yamaha's entire lineup. Instead of FM, this keyboard is apparently entirely based on short PCM samples, giving it a sound unlike anything that would come later. This was the first Yamaha keyboard to include PCM sampled drums and percussion. A rather odd and fun machine!"

While the New TVS Pro is a 'reissue' of the TVS with the classic SEM sound of the '70s, a few details have transformed this instrument. Once destined to sit atop a Hammond B-3 or in a multi-keyboard setup, the new TVS is at home in any modular system, providing handy pitch and timing reference, and shining as an excellent compact master keyboard for playing polyphonic synths without having to fire up the DAW.

In this video, the Tom Oberheim TVS Pro plays sequence #1, while supplying clock to the modular systems' sequencers. External sounds include a Karp hi hat; Wiard kick, Mayhem and Pedal tone; a Tonestar grand casa; MiniMod Bass; Elements chunk; Serge funk; Serge and Nebulae suspense and 2 Roland MKS 80 Super Jupiters pads, played from TVS Pro Keyboard with Local OFF.

The music in the video is performed live, without overdubbing or editing. Special thanks to Anthony Baldino for sprucing up the mix before the shoot.

Lacrima Versio's roots are in the classic analog autowah pedals, but we don't stop there. LV features an envelope follower that controls a high-resonance filter. Morph the filter between lowpass, bandpass, and highpass slopes, and Lacrima covers all the sounds you’d expect from a typical wah – but this is not your typical wah. Route an adjustable distortion pre, post, or pre+post filter for some saturation crunch. Add width and motion (and just a little otherworldly tone) to your sounds with a stereo chorus. Last but not least, use the Mod parameter to add audio-rate modulation and octavizing to your signal."

Vermona PerFourMer MkII: Noodlings with a Zen delay

"After many enquiries and much nagging I was finally able to buy a Vermona PerFourMer MkII - for a machine that's been around almost 10 years these things are hard to get! The original was released in 2003 and the MkII in 2012. Had mine for about a week now and it's a beautifully engineered knobby beast. Am really enjoying cycling through the four oscillators and the delight in this reminds me of my first synth, the Korg Mono/Poly. The Vermona takes things a lot further than the Mono/Poly though with individual flters, LFO and envelopes.

In this noddle the Vermona is in Poly2 mode with individual insert effects on each oscillator: a Vahlbruch SpaceTime delay, Phase 95, and two channels of the Boss RV-6 reverb. As things progress I add in the Erica Synths Zen delay on the stereo output. It's on digital ping pong mode with a gently overdriven input and some bandpass filter. Finally I add in some Zen overdrive before finishing with basic Zen again. In hindsight it may have been better to roll off some of the top end of the reverb, pan oscillators 3 & 4 left and right and turn off the Zen ping pong. But then every little knob twiddle changes the flavor slightly and eventually you just have to plate it up and serve. If you've read this far you're probably a hard enough synth nut to appreciate the special love I have for osillator 4 in this noodle. It's the low "boom" hit that sounds every now and then. It's just a simple triangle wave with no special settings at all but somehow with the reverb it manages to sometimes sound like a cavernous drum. Had to sell quite a bit of stuff to fund this one, including the very interesting little Norand Mono, which was a bit of a shame. Still, no regrets in having the Vermona! I've got all sorts of things queued up waiting to try :)

"This is the plastic-body variety, which is allegedly more reliable than the earlier metal-body version. It has been professionally serviced and works perfectly. All filters tune correctly - see photo. I also replaced the internal battery, and updated the OS to the latest V3.5.

Stuff done:

New 2/3AA battery fitted. The proper OEM one, not a button cell.
Power supply completely rebuilt.
Tested and tuned and ready to go!
Replaced a few keys.
Keymapper IC replace.
There are minor blemishes on the front panel - see photos - but nothing major, and nothing on the display.
These instruments really sound glorious and are now starting to appreciate in value. Grab this one while you can!"

"Has Social Entropy’s Quicksilver MIDI mod installed which adds several functions, I’m more of a Din Sync user so I really don’t need the MIDI one.

Cosmetic condition is good overall for its age and normal use but has two cosmetic details worth mentioning, both details can be seen in the last two pictures, first it has a small chipped corner, it was like that when I got it, second one is that some of the silver paint is starting to fade around the filter and envelope control knobs, pretty normal for a used TB as in those knobs is where the 303 magic happens .

Quicksilver user manual can be found online at social entropy website.

Includes the original Roland carrying bag, the IN and OUT MIDI cable adapters and a brand new power supply which I will take out of the package for shipping ."
