Control sheet below.

"These are hard to find as they don't make full versions anymore. One of the little feet fell off but everything works great. This is one of the coolest music makers I've ever used. Only selling because I need money. This auction includes what you see in the photos. Everything is in perfect working order. I'm not entirely sure if this is v1 or v2 but I'm guessing that it's v1 since I bought it when it first came out.

A drone is created by slightly de-tuning 2 oscillators. This creates a rhythmic phase canceling effect as the output waves line up and diverge. The density of the drone can be increased by adding more oscillators tuned by harmonic steps above or below the other oscillators.
The Drone Lab is engineered to allow for the creation of dense, pulsing drones. A series of filters and a distortion circuit have been built in to add more depth and variation to the drone.

OMSynth Mini Lab prototype

Published on May 12, 2014 casperelectronics synthesizers·83 videos

"new project synth development board. 9V battery or wall powered. +&-5VDC power supply. 3 input mixer, amplifier and on board speaker. Modular hardware board. I bought the scope from a company called gabotronics."

Update: some info via Casper Electronics:

"About the OMSynth Mini Lab.
The Open Modular Synthesizer is a format of electronic musical instrument that embodies the ethos and technical methodology of modular synthesis but is designed specifically for inventors.
One way this is achieved is by encouraging invention to start at the breadboard level. From here circuits can be built up to robust, road ready instruments. By starting at the breadboard circuits are cheap and flexible and the inventor is free to quickly build and change designs without fighting against a high level form factor.

FEATURES:
3 channel audio mixer
1 Watt audio amplifier and built in speaker and ¼” audio output jack
5 modular potentiometers
3 modular DPDT latching pushbuttons
Circuit prototyping area

POWER
The power regulator section of the Miniab provides a + & – 5VDC power supply from a single 9 volt battery or wall supply. This power supply level allows for classic analog designs, logic circuits and modern microprocessors to operate on the same voltage. The primary goal is to allow the integration of analog and binary chips such as operational amplifiers and CMOS logic chips.

SOUND
A small amp and speaker are provided that is primarily intended for prototyping purposes but is plenty loud enough for personal use. An unamplified signal is available from a 1/4″ audio jack. Plugging into this jack deactivates the amplifier.

HARDWARE
The hardware bored provides 5 potentiometers and 3 latching pushbuttons. This board can be broken off of the power board and placed below the breadboard..."

Hordijk Modular studio jam

Published on Oct 24, 2013 casperelectronics synthesizers·80 videos

"A little demo of my new live performance rig. Not a great quality recording but good enough to give an idea of what I'm working with.
In the back is a Hordijk brand modular synth. In the front is my analog sound and light synth. Also based on Rob Hordijks Benjolin circuit with lots and lots of tweaks.
Next to that is an Electro Harmonix Memory Man with a few tweaks + external clock tap tempo control.

The Modular has 4 modules (from left to right)
-Triple VC-LFO with added fine tune on the full range sine wave VCO.
-Rungler Module. Dual VCO with shift register based feedback sequence/noise generator. + added fine tune knobs for both VCOs
-Dual mixer/cross-fader/pre-amp. This is my own design. nothing special. just a few opamps.
-24db multi mode VCF.

The Sound/Light synth is made up of:
- 2 Benjolin circuits (each made of 2 VCOs, 1 VCF and 1 chaos sequencer)
-Fine control of all oscillators including tuning for SETS of oscillators.
- 4 channel audio mixer
- 2 pre-amps
- Extra attenuable CV control and clock inputs for everything.
- 4 banana to 1/4" converters
- Transistor based high power LED controller. Allows me to convert signals from within the synth into an intense tri color light display."

Catjar in the Rye

"'Catjar in the Rye' (or 'Betty', as she is know to her friends) is an experimental sound instrument built for Swedish composer Andreas Catjar. It combines a chaotic Benjolin synthesizer, extreme fuzz distortion unit, a speaker/ contact-mic feedback system and 'circuit-bending' -style body contacts into one rugged flightcase. The Benjolin features several modifications, including patchable routing banana jacks, LED lights for the three stages of its analog shift register and an external audio input. I hope to post some sounds and video later on, when Andreas has time to make them.

My thanks go out to Rob Hordijk, who designed the Benjolin circuit, and to Pete Edwards/Casper Electronics for his help in working out the modifications..."

NovaDrone v1.3

YouTube Published on Jul 15, 2012 by bubagoo

"This video is of TWO linked NovaDrones WITH REVERB. I don't normally add effects to my instruments for videos but it sounds so good that I couldn't resist. I'm currently looking into methods of building reverb into future models.
This is the third iteration of the NovaDrone I have designed over the past few months. One of the main developments over the last version is the addition of a link port which lets you plug multiple units together to share power and mix the audio to a single output.
The NovaDrone is an analog sound and light synthesizer. It is completely open source and hackable. I will be selling (as of august 2012) PCBs, kits and assembled units or you can just use the plans to build your own. More info here:

Mini Modular Noise synth

YouTube Published on Jul 7, 2012 by bubagoo

"Here's Kate demo-ing my new synth. It's based on my new Mini Modular Noise Synth project which you can check out here:
http://casperelectronics.com/finished-pieces/mini-modular-noise-system/
The core circuit is a modular synth with a bunch of oscillators. I added an external audio processor and the total output is a ring modulated combination of the synth and any audio you plug into it."

analog synth and iPhone

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
YouTube Published on Jun 18, 2012 by bubagoo

"Running a simple beat sequencer on my iPhone (beatwave) into the new synth I'm building:
http://casperelectronics.com/finished-pieces/mini-modular-noise-system/
The magic trick is ring modulation! I have all the audio from the synth being ring modulated by the audio from my phone. This works really well with vocals and melodies too.
The basic effect is that there is only an audio signal when BOTH devices (iphone and synth) make sound... and the sounds are mixed in an interesting way. So basically you only hear the synth when the beat is playing.
More info on ring modulation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_modulation

For the techie folks out there, I'm using the AD633 analog multiplier chip for ring modding. Its obsolete but can still be found. Its super simple to use and functions really well.

Another cool trick I'm doing here is using a sample and hold circuit to modulate the pitch of the oscillators in the synth. The clock input to the S&H is coming from the beat, so the pitch changes somewhat in time.

The big knob on the left is a multi turn pot which controls the pitch of all of the oscillators in the synth at the same time."

Casperelectronics NOVA DRONE sound and light synth

YouTube Published on Jun 17, 2012 by bubagoo

"The Nova Drone is an open source, analog experimental sound and light synth from casperelectronics.
It it can be used to create effects ranging from slowly fading drones to chaotic harmonic sequences.
The Nova Drones offers 9 potentiometers, 9 switches, 6 oscillators, 3 oscillator sync inputs and an epic 15 voltage outputs as well as 3 high current outputs for controlling external LEDs. All of the ins and outs have been routed to a prototyping breadboard at the bottom of the unit which allows for liberal experimentation and development of custom circuits. The prototyping area is especially useful for syncing the oscillators of 2 or more Nova Drones together.

Casper Electronics Mini modular synth test

YouTube Published on Jun 14, 2012 by bubagoo

"Just built and test 3 of the 4 modules of the new mini modular synth kit I'm designing. Everything works! Ive got 5 VCOs, 1 VCA, 1 VCF, 1 sample&hold, 2 ring mods, 1 random sequence and loop generator.
I plan on designing arduino style control "shields" that stack on each board and hold all the pots and a breadboard style patch bay."

4. TOUCH CONTROL,PROGRAMMER (touch controlled voltage and preset bank)
stacking control boards

"I’m working on a new compact modular synth kit project based largely (but not entirely) on the SSM2164 quad VCA chip. I just ordered the PCBs today.

Just drafted a design for a touch controller to go with that I’m pretty excited about.
Inspired by the BugBrand CTL1 module which was in turn inspired by this and this article in Synapse magazine (from 1977)."
