Sewn -- A Solar-Powered Analog Modular Synthesizer

Published on Dec 17, 2018 ellis tronics

"Etsy Listing::: https://etsy.me/2rIFnfS

Sewn is a Solar-Powered Analog Modular Synthesizer. Consisting of 3 Internal Synth Modules, this Musical Instrument specializes in exploring audio chaos hidden within the infinite Analog Spectrum.

The 3 Internal Modules are to be interconnected via patch wires in various and experimental ways. These connections create new circuit pathways that often result in wildly unexpected sounds and textures.

The 3 Internal Modules are: (2) Independent Primitive "Push/Pull" Oscillators and (1) Mixer/Amp with 5 Unique Gain Stage Inputs to shape incoming Signals.

The Oscillator Modules Pitch Range is set by Selecting and Plugging in Different Sized Capacitors into the "Capacitor-Slots". The Larger the Chosen Capacitor is, the Lower the resulting Pitch/Frequency will be. Each Oscillator contains 2 Slots for Inserting the provided Capacitors, by Mixing and Matching different Capacitor types and sizes, many variations of Waveform Symmetry and Resulting Tonalities are Possible. Playing the Sewn Synthesizer is all about Experimentation!

"The Ellitone Multi-Synth is a budget-friendly synthesizer that can produce a wide variety of sounds thanks to its 7 selectable synthesis/operation modes.
Each of these 7 synthesis/operation modes utilize the instruments 4 knobs, 4 keys, and center patch bay in different ways.

One of the most important things to know about the Ellitone Multi-Synth is that it requires 0% knowledge of synthesizers or synthesis concepts to instantly pick up, patch, and play.
All that is required to master the operation of this electronic musical instrument is a experimentation.

Panic Voice - Data-Distort Oscillator (cedar)

Published on Jul 6, 2018 ellis tronics

"**This is a very limited run. (7) Available**

Etsy Listing:::

https://etsy.me/2MVNf6C

-Panic Voice-

A stand-alone digital synthesizer voice that operates within the newly unexplored realm of 'data distortion' type synthesis.

This uniquely digital method of sound creation yields extreme and unexplained synthesized audio that challenges the sanity of even the most experimental avant-garde "synth nerd"

operation of the -Panic Voice- synthesizer is more like operating an instant replay camera than it is playing a typical desktop synthesizer. This instant replay camera that you control is constantly viewing a forced and controlled explosion of sound data being translated into audio output (3.55mm jack) .

This explosion of sound data results from the forced combination (smashing) of multiple over-sized waveform data arrays into one small audio stream. These data arrays represent complex organic shapes that start to squeal, grind, and rumble as their digital representations are 'smashed' together and forced to occupy the same digital audio space. This never ending fight for the audio stream results in strange and extreme interactions (battles) between the wavetables as their unique shapes match up and overflow in wildly unexpected ways. Disturbing phase distortion timbres and hyper-aliased percussive trips are found through the viewing and manipulation of this explosion [panic] using the controls of the device (8 Knobs)

*includes USB power cable and printed instructions
*ships same day"

StarCruncher rev.4 -Monophonic Distorted Realm Explorer-

Published on Jun 23, 2018 ellis tronics

***This is a -one of a kind- Instrument *** (1) Available

4th entry to the StarCruncher Series of Data Distortion Synthesizers

'Data Distortion' Synthesis is an exciting and newly unexplored method of Digital Sound Synthesis. This experimental technique of sound processing can result in wildly unpredictable timbres and sonic interactions usually found only in analog gear

A typical digital synthesizer sound engine operates much like a multi-lane highway. each of the oscillator voices like cars driving next to each other, drivers waiving politely to one other as everyone travels safely under the speed limit. the sound engine of this instrument is like taking those same cars and having them all smash head first into each other at maximum speed. using the unique controls of this synthesizer, this resulting explosion can then be slowed down, reversed, magnified, literally ripped apart and turned inside out all while being translated into sound.

this model features an 8-key keyboard and measures over twice the length of previous StarCrunchers

Includes: printed instruction guide and mini USB cable

***ships out same day***"

PolyKey/Distortion Synth (rev3) 'StarCruncher'

Published on Jun 19, 2018 ellis tronics

"Etsy Listing https://etsy.me/2MDPhbW

*** This is a -one and only- unit *** (1) available *** ready to ship out today

The 3rd revision of the newly entitled 'StarCruncher' series of data distortion polyphonic synthesizers. This revision features a new Cross Mod FM Distortion method that opens up new distorted textures

with all distortion controls set to '0' or 'off' this instrument functions as a 3-Voice Polyphonic Wavetable Sound Synthesizer with adjustable Decay Envelopes for the 3 Voices. this Wavetable based synth is loaded with 45 unique waveform shapes to choose from. Once the data distort controls are increased, the unit becomes a totally different instrument that specializes in exploring the unpredictable sound possibilities of data distortion type synthesis. unexpected wavefolding and frequency modulations occur while processing synthesis data is stretched, overflowed, and twisted upon itself. use controls -data distort (main)- and -cross mod fm level- to play and manipulate these different data distortion methods to find new interactions and timbres

-powered by USB (mini cable included)
-printed instructions (included)
-audio output through 1/8th inch 'headphone jack'"

Ellis Electronics PolyKey / Distortion Synthesizer

Published on Jun 3, 2018 ellis tronics

Listed on etsy

"***this is a one of a kind item - - 1 Available***

The PolyKey/Distortion Synthesizer is an experimental Lo-Fi sound device that explores the unpredictable realm of 'data type' distortion.

when the 'data distort' control is at 0 (far right knob), the device functions as a polyphonic 5-voice wavetable synthesizer. each voice has it own key button and a microtonal pitch control knob above.
decay control for the 5 enveloped voices (top knob) and 40 waveform shapes are available to shuffle between using the wave button (directly under decay control knob)

the data distort control "inflates" the audio data stream and also adjusts the threshold (or data type) in which the sound data can 'overflow' . this overflowing of data causes drastic frequency modulation and unpredictable wave folding. these effects and percussion type sounds can be explored using the 5 pitch control knobs above each voice key and by switching between the 40 unique waveform shapes.

audio output - 1/8 inch "headphone style" jack
power - mini USB cable included

-ships out same day!

***this device is a one of a kind*** as i continue to explore the sound synth possibilities of the atmega 328 microprocessor, i will have various one of a kind development models (prototypes) for sale."

Aurora at SDIY 2005

Looks like the Aurora made an appearance at SDIY 2005. That's Paul Maddox of Modulus Electronics and the Monowave playing it. Some notes on sound according to two that have actually played it: according to Chris Strellis "It was OK - a bit confusing routing some of the modulation sources to destinations. Definately Moogy sounding and probably worth the money. It was for sale then at something like £400. I passed on it." According to dmxkrew, "just saw your post on the aurora, it's hand built by adrian who runs SRS in bedford, UK, which is where my mum lives so I usually go there when i need something fixing. adrian is a nice guy and good at fixing stuff, he let me have a play on the synth when it wasn't quite finished, sounded great, the design owes a lot to the SCI pro one in my opinion." At the price under 600 Euro, I'm thinking this might actually be a great little monosynth. More on the Aurora here.

Update via the comments of this post: " have had the AR1 for quite a while now and have used the synth on many recordings for solo projects under Brendan Pollard and Rogue Element.
She is extremely versatile, moog sounding but with careful manipulation even ARP. Fantastic for sound effects, leads, basses, etc.
Our studio is 90% analogue and she was definitely a worthy addition to our collection,
Cheers
