Osmose Expressive E, Dirtywave M8, and Numa X GT, Live at the Lakely

video upload by John C.S. Keston

"This is the last in a series of live audiovisual collaborations with Chris LeBlanc and Shawna Lee. The performance was captured at at the Lakely in the Oxbow Hotel, Eau Claire, Wisconsin (https://www.theoxbowhotel.com/lakely/) on September 30, 2023.

Chris LeBlanc and Shawna Lee produced live visuals using their integrated, modular video synthesis systems as I performed. This piece titled, Dark at the End of the Tunnel, is an electro-acoustic piano composition. In this adaptation I used a a stage piano, but the processing and accompaniment are as they would be if the piece were performed on an acoustic instrument.

Please take a look at Chris’ (@blindprophet) and Shawna’s (@iamadot) Instagram feeds to see more of their work.

Dogma: Cinematic Synth Improvisation with the Melbourne Instruments NINA + Expressive E Osmose

video upload by Christopher Gwinn

"Dogma: another bit of improv with a very cinematic pad on my Melbourne Instruments NINA desktop synth, using an Expressive E Osmose as the controller. Running through light UAD EQ, compression/limiting, and tape sim.

"This is the first in a series of live audiovisual collaborations with Chris LeBlanc and Shawna Lee. The performance was captured at at the Lakely in the Oxbow Hotel, Eau Claire, Wisconsin (https://www.theoxbowhotel.com/lakely/) on September 30, 2023.

Chris and Shawna produced live visuals using their integrated, modular video synthesis systems as I performed. This as yet untitled piece is driven by morphing drums and sequences on the Dirtywave M8 tracker. I also live looped a Rhodes pattern on the Numa X Piano GT. The formant-filtered-voice-like-lead was played on the Osmose Expressive E.

I’m thrilled with the analog visuals that Chris and Shawna produced. The image above shows Shawna’s (left) and Chris’ (right) video systems. Please take a look at their Instagram feeds to see more of their work:

The Room Outside Of Time 2

video upload by John L Rice

"A quick one I should have spent more time on, and also should NOT have spent ANY time on, but I wanted to record a bit of it for the memories! 😅

Unlike a lot of my recent complex sequencer experiments this one only uses 5 steps of a single row of one Moon 569 sequencer! The CV out is patched into a Synth Tech E102 Quad Temporal Shifter (shift register) and the 4 outputs go to 4 voices, each consisting of a MOTM-300 VCO, saw out to a Happy Nerding FM AID, to a Moon 517 VCF and finally to a Oakley Dual VCA. VCF and VCA modulation was from a Club Of The Knobs C911P poly EG and the FM AIDs and VCFs got additional modulation from a Krisp1 OCTO LFO. Effects are from the usual Strymon BigSky and Timeline pedals and Lexicon MX400 rack. I used the Roland A-88 keyboard to transpose the sequence via a MOTM-650 module and the bassy-lead was played on an Expressive E Osmose keyboard."

The Uncanny Surrealism of the Osmose Expressive E

video upload by John C.S. Keston

"The Osmose is inherently susceptible to an emotional response akin to our revulsion toward humanlike robots. I admit that this may seem a bit exaggerated, but I consider this evidence of a marked advancement in music technology; the Osmose gives keyboard players the ability to inject nearly as much expression into a synthesizer engine as musicians are able to express with tactile acoustic instruments. Late Night Ambient Soundtrack (Osmose, Microcosm, Nightsky, GR-1, OB-6, Matriarch)

video upload by NGC0 Music

"Couldn't sleep last night, so I've assembled a few toys and recorded this.
You'll hear mainly the Osmose going through the Microcosm + Nightsky (My only FX chain), the Rhodes through a Chase Bliss Blooper pedal (in delay mode), the Moog Matriarch (bass), and OB-6 (dreamy EP sound). I've then sent the full mix back to the Tasty Chips GR-1, did some granular tweaks, and recorded the outcome back into the main mix."

Expressive E Osmose Keyboard Synthesizer MPE MIDI Controller

"I was an original backer from 2019. I waited for almost 4 years to get this amazing synthesizer controller. I’ve only played with it for a total of maybe up to 2 hours. It’s a beautiful thing and I know I will regret the sale but haven’t had time and don’t know when I will have time to play it. It still has the original plastic covering over the screen.

It sells out everywhere.

Comes with the manufacturer's original box and original shipping box (see photos)"

Osmose // The 7 Stages of Ownership

video upload by Starsky Carr

"Don't be scared - The Osmose isn't like other synths... but its nothing to be afraid of! In fact it feels like we're entering a new more enlightened era. One where we can show more emotions... let's not call it a woke synth though, I could get in all sorts of trouble ;) Would it wear a pink cowboy hat if going to watch barbie? who knows - but it does display A LOT of emotion and dynamics.

Just for fun I've swapped the 7 stages of grief to the 7 stages of enlightenment - because you do go through a process as you play with it. I haven't whitewashed over the negatives either as its all part of the journey. The software can be a b*tch at first, and its so frustrating that a few tweaks to the manual would've saved me a day or so of headscratching.

Overall though... phwoar!!

And one more with the Novation Impulse MIDI keyboard controller:

Patches Demo: GS Music E7 polyphonic analog synth + Neon Egg Planetarium Reverb-Delay-Compressor

video upload by

"I recently bought a lovely analog polyphonic synth - the GS Music E7 - and have started making my own patches for it. Here's a random selection of them. Trigger warning: I'm a good guitarist but a terrible keyboardist, haha. Please don't judge my lack of skill on the keys - I just love synths and making cool sounds with them to add texture to my music.

Gear used:
*GS Music E7 7-voice polyphonic synthesizer
*Neo Egg Planetarium v2 reverb-delay-compressor
*UAD Apollo Twin interface
*UAD API Preamp, Fairchild 670 Compressor, Precision Limiter
*Novation Impulse MIDI controller

Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Revision 2 | Roland RE-301 | Roland SBF-325 | Expressive E Osmose

video upload by fishjaco

"Here's noodling on fancy gear for 45 min. It's a Prophet 5 rev. 2 through an RE-301 tape delay, SBF-325 stereo flanger/chorus, Louder Than Liftoff Silver Bullet and Audioscape Buss Compressor. The Osmose is MIDI controlling the P5. No Osmose audio here. The 325, when engaged, was only used for subtle stereo imaging so no focus on flanging or chorus in this video.

Just got the Rev. 2 back from Greg M. in Oakland. It has been a privilege to have him work on it as he is (AFAK) the foremost P5 Rev. 2 expert in the world. He did some amazing work, especially on the power supply and MIDI kit install. Thank you Greg, you make the synth world a better place.

Now that I have my hands on this board I can honestly say that, in my opinion, the Prophet 5 Rev. 2 is not overrated. The hype is real. It may not be evident in this video but if you've played synths for a while and sit down to one of these, you will know.

Ok, the gear is admittedly too good for my poor playing skills. Oh well. It just seemed like there should be more Rev. 2 footage out there considering its reputation. Also, the camera turned off and it took me about 5 min to notice so there no video towards the middle. Sorry."

"The Linnstrument controlling the Haken Eagenmatrix in the Expressive E Osmose. This is because I have yet too see a video where the Linnstrument is used with the Osmose. Now you have one. They get along so well together.
Disclosure: I paid for these instruments on my own and were not provided by any single maker. The music is improvised and I own all content.

Synths No Talking: GS E7 Synthesizer Linnstrument MPE and Expressive E Osmose MPE

video upload by Synths No Talking

"The GS E7 and Linnstrument.
Many don't know the GS E7 analog synth fully supports MPE. I have used it with the linnstrument. Enjoy the weirdness.
Disclosure: I paid for these instruments on my own and were not provided by any single maker. The music is improvised and I own all content."

Synths No Talking: GS E7 and Expressive E Osmose MPE

"Another MPE Video with the GS E7, featuring the Expressive E Osmose.
Not going to lie, as much as I love the linnstrument, I think the Osmose is a better fit for the GS E7."
