New MMTA SYNTHFEST Black & White Pics via Computer Controlled
New pics added to this set. They start after the LX4 pic. There are some great shots in the complete set. Don't miss them!
Pictured here is the Syntar from George Mattson of Mattson Mini Modular. The Syntar was the first portable "keytar" style synthesizer. It's interesting when you thing about it. The name could have been Syntar which is a mix of Synth and Guitar. Instead keytar stuck through the years. The Moog Liberation followed the Syntar and became the first mass produced all in one portable synthesizer. See the Syntar channel for more.

My set. :) I did a bit more hanging out with people which was extremely nice this time around. I'm not the best photographer, but hopefully these will give you a sense of what was there. I had an absolutely great time this year. Huge thanks to everyone that could make it, a big thanks to the MMTA members that made this happen and of course a huge thanks for Shoreline Community College hosting yet again!
In attendance: 4ms, Synthwerks, Mattson Mini Modular, Division-6, Circuit Abbey, Sythrotek / Antimatter, Malekko, Bubblesound, Computer Controlled, Lorne aka Kidtronic, JohnLRice, Infradead (with Dinsync Amnesia eurorack modules & more), Vsyevolod, Barto & more.

Steve Turnidge "Beyond Mastering: A Conceptual Guide" Released
Not a synth book, however there is a synth connection that warrants a post here on MATRIXSYNTH. Steve Turnidge is one of the men behind the eurorack modular synth manufacturer Synthwerks. He is also one of the founders of the MMTA (Mostly Modular Trade Association). This is a look at what one of the makers and influentials in the modular synthesizer community is passionate about.
Beyond Mastering: A Conceptual Guide on Amazon
"In his first book, Desktop Mastering, Steve Turnidge unveiled his unique approach to mastering in the box, all the while providing glimpses of his mind-set and resulting workflow. Now, in Beyond Mastering, Turnidge pulls back the veil to give a tour of the physics and philosophy driving the mastering engineer, and the internal state required for happiness and success.By definition, universal truths can be expressed in any medium. In this book, these truths are revealed through the art of mastering, building on the step-by-step methods explained in Desktop Mastering, related in well-developed metaphor and analogy. Beyond Mastering is full of guiding principles gained from Turnidges more than 25 years at the forefront of art and technology."

MMTA FALL SYNTHFEST Coming to Seattle on October 26!
Update: It was an awesome event as always! You'll find pics and videos of the event as they go up on the MMTA SYNTHFEST 2013 channel. Some are already up and mine are yet to follow. New posts of course will go up on the front page. You can get to the channel via the link at the bottom of each post. Note there was an earlier event this year so this post will mark the bottom of the last event. Posts beneath that are from the prior event.
Heads up everyone! The MMTA SYNTHFEST is currently scheduled at Shoreline Community College in the Music Building (800) Saturday, October 26. The event is Free! Full details will follow in future posts. Until then mark your calendar and make arrangements as needed. This is not an event you will want to miss!
This year's previous Spring SYNTHFEST included the Synth Petting Zoo for people to check out and play with gear, a Tradeshow Room with local vendors & manufactures, a Presentation Room with lectures & performances, and a Jam Session room. Last year we had a rare look into the history of Yamaha from Dave Bristow. Mark Vail, author of Vintage Synthesizers, along with John Bowen and the Solaris, were also in attendance. For a full list of manufactures from that event, see this post.
