StyloBuzz MkII - Stylus Synth

Published on Apr 19, 2019 Rarebeasts

via Rare Beasts on Etsy

"The StyloBuzz MkII is a small stylus synth that allows you to design loops and then play them on a keyboard shifting the sound as you go.

Sounds are made by playing notes on the keyboard, but if you want you can record a noise loop that will be played and repeated as you hit each key. Just place the stylus on the first key to enter loop mode.

It's so simple to play, the minimalist design means it super easy to make awesome sounds, no need to rush for a 200 page instruction manual to play this instrument.

The StyloBuzz has 4 main controls;

* The keyboard: press the stylus on any part of the keyboard to play a note, it's not fixed to any key and just represents a range of sounds.

* The speed control: this knob adjusts the speed at which the loop is repeated. It gets faster a you increase frequency making some very weird noises at the top.

* The frequency control: Normally the speed control but becomes the frequency control when the lowest note is played with the stylus, entering loop mode.

* The third control is the write button, when pressed in loop mode it writes a sound to memory which is then replayed next time the loop is run.

The output is via a 3.5mm stereo socket which can be plugged into earphones, a computer sound card, mixer or amplifier.

Stats:
Output: 3.5mm socket (Use with earphones, a computer sound card, mixer or amplifier)
Power: USB (Plug into a computer, phone charger or wall socket). No internal battery."

Acid Conductor & Hōgaku Rumba

Published on May 12, 2018 wildchurch

"The 邦楽 コンダクター (Hougaku Conductor) through a Boss ME-6B is great for bass sounds - if a little unpredictable at times.

Video in 3 parts:
1. Short intro and demonstration of the Hougaku Conductor - first clean, then through the ME-6B
2. A bit of jamming along to the O2 Minipops which is feeding a clock signal to my build of Look Mum No Computer's Arduino sequencer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oGlC...), which in turn is triggering squiggly noises on a PAiA 9700s (off camera here). The O2 Minipops and the PAiA have some spring reverb on them.
3. A brief multi-tracked piece using the above setup, plus some additional drums courtesy of the CM-505 plugin

* Everything's a bit rough'n'ready. I guess it would be possible to add triggers to the Conductor and have it sequenced but for now it's has to be played in real time.

Cheers"

Broken tape !

Published on Apr 9, 2019 paul tas

via Error Instruments

"This is the broken tape simulation

.Because sometimes we miss the sound of the unexpected error .

If it’s about warm crunchiness .lo fi

This is a mix between a kind of looper and a delay.

But it’s definitely a noise box.

It has an input and output .

You can also only use the output and find some feedback points .

Those are really interesting .

The big knob has a lot of influence on the feedback and The tape loop .

The small red knob .

Have little influence on this big one .

The red button is for cutting so input is not coming in if you push it .

The Green button is for Bit crush or distortion .

Please check demonstration movies before buying this because this is a crazy device

😉 But we love it if you love broken tapes You will like this lo-fi crunchiness

pay attention ! use the included power sub or the battery clip, or adapter 7/9 volts plus in center"

KOMA Elektronik ANGLERFISH - Common Ground DIY Kit

Published on Mar 26, 2019 KOMA Elektronik

"Anglerfish is a 6 square oscillator noise and dronemaker for experimental and drony sounds! Use the light controls with the built-in LED or use an external torch to modulate the pitch! Drone on! This DIY Kit is suitable for beginner solderers. Anglerfish is the first self-released DIY Kit by Common Ground, designed by Bridget Ferrill.

The Pitch of each oscillator is determined by corresponding potentiometers and the three switches between the oscillators open up light-sensitive connections between adjacent pots. This means both oscillators’ pitches will bend according to the amount of light the photocells receive (LED’s indicate strength of current flowing between the pots) The Tone pot controls a shelf EQ on the master output, with cutoff frequency at 482 HZ and the dangling LED is there for you to use to play the light-sensitive circuit. Adjust the brightness of the LED with the pot next to it. DRONE/KEYS switch chooses between either all 6 voices playing constantly or voices playing only when activated with key. Use 9V center positive PSU."

CLOCK MANIPULATOR

Published on Mar 14, 2019 Michael Rucci

via RUCCI

"This device manipulates clock pulses in three ways. “Humanize” sets the amount of delay randomly applied to clock pulses. “Improbability” increases the likely hood that a clock pulse will be held back from being passed through. Finally, “swing” will delay every other pulse to change the feel. It works with either external 5V clock sources or can generate its own clock.

All three effects can be used simultaneously and mixed for desired result. This works well paired with a sequencer or drum machine to smooth out robotic perfection, add a groove feel, or create some chaos.

There is a speed control for the internal clock generator which is overridden when an external clock source is connected. In addition to a power indicator, a 2nd LED displays the original pulses and a 3rd LED shows the manipulated pulses.

Clock in and out are 1/8″ jacks. It is built in an aluminum enclosure and powered by an included internal 9V battery or any 9V Center-Negative DC adapter. Connecting a power supply will automatically disconnect and reserve the battery. This was designed and hand-built in Oakland, California.

Shipping to the US is a flat $10, everywhere else is $22 for the first item and $8 for each additional item.

Ships next day."

ETHER by SOMA laboratory

Published on Feb 20, 2019 Vlad Kreimer

"ETHER is a wide-band pocket receiver that turns the electromagnetic landscape around you into a live soundscape that you control and manipulate by walking around and moving ETHER with your hand."

via SOMA laboratory

The net price of ETHER is 120 euros. The total price including shipping to most countries, PayPal transfer fees and VAT will be around 150 euros. We will specify the exact price when we receive your shipping address.

"ETHER is a kind of anti-radio. Instead of being tuned to a specific radio station, it receives all the interference and radiation that a traditional radio tries to eliminate in order to create a clean signal. It captures the radio waves “as is” from hertz to gigahertz, because it doesn’t contain the tuned input circuit that filters out all frequencies except the narrow band of a specific station. This allows ETHER to perceive the invisible electromagnetic landscape that humans created unintentionally, making possible live electromagnetic field listening and recording.
As the inspiration for this project, I took the design of the very first radios (early 1900s) that had no tuning wheel. At this time there weren’t many radio stations, and all of them used Morse code. It was possible to distinguish each transmitter by ear, as each one had its own specific timbre or “voice”.

ETHER is pocket-sized (105x65x20mm) and light-weight (93g). It consumes very little power and runs on two AAA batteries. How long it can run on two batteries is unclear, because I still use the very same set of alkaline batteries I put into the first ETHER prototype 6 years ago! (yes the project has taken 6 years). All I can definitely say is that battery life is more than 300 hours if you using alkaline or lithium batteries.

Fort Processor - experimental noise synthesiser circuit by Isn'tses

Published on Feb 3, 2019 Isn'tses music

"The Fort Processor is an experimental synth and noise effects circuit created by Isn'tses as part of Fort Process sound art festival 2018.

Available now as a DIY PCB or full kit."

via Thonk

"The Fort Processor is an experimental noise synthesiser and audio effect circuit designed by harsh fun noise duo ISN’TSES (Tim Drage & Lisa McKendrick) for Fort Process sound art festival. This event takes place in the tunnels and bunkers of Newhaven Fort on the Sussex coast, and the electronics and artwork of the synth are based on the layout of the site, with inspiration from the surrounding landscape and ocean.

The synth is controlled by light, touch pads, 3 knobs, and a trimmer. Audio is created and manipulated by four sections which have been combined using a circuit-bent approach:

1. The audio input, (3.5mm) used to connect devices such as a radio, walkman, phone, tablet, mp3, instrument etc. This signal is distorted using high gain then run through a frequency divider to add two noisy sub-octaves. When no input jack is connected, the circuit feeds back and self-oscillates.

The ParipiDestroyer - Mini Sequencer Synth Seeks Funding

This one is in via @Shangri_La_Live

You can find the campaign with demos at DigiLog here.

Some details:

"ParipiDestroyer is a cute and very tiny synthesizer made by DigiLogTokyo's sub-brand "Crazy Synth Kids". You can play with intense bass sound despite its cute looks.

How you play is up to you. It is a size that you can carry anytime and anywhere in a real sense.

Story

I made a prototype with a little play in 2017. I really liked it, but forgotten until recently. This year, I remembered that while I was watching Twitter. And with some improvements, a good feeling design was completed.
Paripi is the meaning of "Party People".

But, don't you ever destroy Paripi. Use ParipiDestroyer to teach Paripi really good music!

※I do not hate Paripi, my friend is Paripi, and my cousin is also Paripi. This is just a joke!"
