PixelH8 Music Tech RARE Gameboy Analog Synth Cart

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This auction is for a PixelH8 Music Tech cartridge. #53/100. I ordered this from him after reading a bulletin post on myspace in 2007. These never come up on eBay. This turns a Gameboy into a synthesizer. This can be used by beginners and advanced gameboy thrashers. Music Tech would be great for someone who just wants to punch in classic Nintendo synths and sound effects into tracks or live performances without sequencing knowledge, but it is also useful for performing leads when you have multiple synced gameboys allowing extra expression. Music Tech turns your gameboy DMG into a synthesizer. This is does not have a sequencer and there is no way to use this device via MIDI that I know of. It is a grail 8bit chiptune cartridge and a future museum piece for video game music aficionados.

The Music Tech cartridge works perfect. It will not be DOA. No Returns so plan to keep it. Auction includes 1 PixelH8 Music Tech Limited Edition Gameboy Cartridge with clear plastic case. Smurfette and other Nintendo accessories in photos are not included. Free USPS shipping in the US. International shipping can select between USPS Flat Rate Envelope or USPS Flat Rate Box. If you want expedited shipping let me know before you pay and I will get you an updated invoice. I'm going to let this go worldwide. Bidders with less than 5 feedback need to contact me before bidding or I reserve the right to retract your bids.

PixelH8 Music Tech: In the Sound Editor the features include.... Pitch Sweep (2 upward sweeps -like mario jumping and hitting coins in slow motion / 2 downward - falling off the cliff in two speeds), Wave Duty (4 square wave shape variations), Vol Envelope (5 different envelopes), Octave (4 octave range), Special (a 2 part chorus or a 3 part chorus) and Crazy (different combos take you into the awesomeness of favorite nintendo sound effects). After adjusting the levels of the editable parameters on in the Sound Editor you are sent into Player Mode where you perform sounds "keyboard style" triggering sounds on the pad controls with up, down, left, right, select and start."

"Red Token" tangible musical interface by Pixelh8

YouTube Uploaded by pixelh8 on Mar 14, 2012

"Here is a simple tangible musical interface programmed in Processing using a webcam and some gaming chips. The sounds are made from samples I made on a BBC Micro you can get them from my website at http://pixelh8.co.uk/ . I have always been a fan of of "I eat beats"and "Beat Machine" and many more at http://modin.yuri.at/tangibles/ and even though this is very similar to them, it was a good experience and good fun to make. Loads of people make chocolate cake and it's still pretty good."

Pixelh8's Sonus (Six) for iPhone/iPod Touch Free

"Sonus (Six) is a digital referee for 12-note serial composition. Users simply tap on a block releasing the sound contained within it, once released the block extinguishes itself. This continues until as per the rules of 12-note composition, all twelve
boxes have been utilised and they are free to return to play.

The software in part inspired by the work of Arnold Schoenberg, with “Sonus (Six)” adding the dimesion the uknown note contained in the box. Not only allowing for each note to be of equal importance but allowing the performer no preference of known order.

“Sonus (Six)” is part of a collection of digital instruments designed and programmed by Pixelh8. The instruments are a culmination of three years of Masters Degree research in to alternative musical instruments and notation systems."

Obsolete?

Obsolete? from Pixelh8 on Vimeo.

follow-up to this post
"Pixelh8’s work “Obsolete?” is a audio and visual study of the people, machines, history of The National Museum of Computing, Bletchley Park and looks closely at the themes of mathematics, logic, code-breaking and enciphering. The project was funded by the PRS Foundations new music award and commissioned by The National Museum of Computing.

The music itself is composed using some of the oldest and rarest computers in the world such as the WWII code-breaking machine Colossus Mark 2 Rebuild, and the 1960’s Elliott 803 largely used for mathematics and some of the more commonplace machines such as the BBC Micro. With over thirty machines studied and utilised within the music, it is a combination of both sounds from the internal sound chips and the external electro-mechanical sounds. In addition to this, the piece also utilises such items as the early non-electrical mechanical adding machines.

The project was comprised of twelves pieces of music and accompanying visuals and culminated in two performances at the prestigious Bletchley Park Mansion on March 20th and 21st, 2009.

The project attracted widespread media attention and has been featured on BBC New 24, BBC Look East, BBC South Today, New Scientist Magazine, Dazed & Confused Magazine, Games TM Magazine, Future Music, BBC Radio 4, BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Suffolk, BBC Three Counties and covered on several news websites including The Register, MacWorld, bit.tech, Slashdot, The IET, IT Pro and several more.

Available on iTunes, Napster, Spotify and more.

You can watch a interview with me about the making of Obsolete? here vimeo.com/3847750 [below]

Enjoy!"

Pixelh8 Music Tech Master Stroke DS

YouTube via pixelh8. Be sure to see Pixelh8 for more
"The Pixelh8 Music Tech Master Stroke DS is a real time synthesizer for the Nintendo DS system it allows for extensive sound design and is the natural evolution of the Music Tech Series allowing for the classic chip tune sound on a modern device.

The new system allows for keyboard style play by pressing "X" to bring up the 2 Ocatve Xylophone or classic Music Tech mode by using the directional pad to control the sounds in the same way as the Music Tech Game Boy and Pro Performer Game Boy Advance.

Loads of new combinations are possible as you can now combine interval settings with time based effects as well as using the noise channel instead of tone and the easy change between menus allow for quick change during performance.

All sounds are produced via the on board sound chip and no samples or sample manipulation is used, this is a real time chip tune synth for the DS.

Top Screen shows options selected at any given time.

Menu 1 controls the Wave Duty, Pan and Volume.

Menu 2 controls Keys and Intervals.

Menu 3 controls time based effects set 1.

Menu 4 controls time based effects set 2.

Menu 5 are some of my favourite sounds, Attack and Release and Credits Screen.

Menu 6 Controls Octave, Whammy Bar, Tone/Noise and 3 sound patches so you can recall them quickly during performance.

The "X" button brings up a simple 2 octave Xylophone to perform the designed sound on. Whats more is that options can be changed during play, in Classic play mode, in Xylophone mode it's only one menu away.

I have had an amazing response to the release of my previous free software and have heard loads of songs created using it and loads of emails of thank yous which is fantastic. I am not going to charge for this software either, but if you would like to help support my research simply buy an album or donate old computer equipment to me, that would be great.

The software is 95% done and will be released for free download to allow for more users to take part and create music. It will be completed after I have finished my third album "And The Revolution" but hopefully that won't be too long, as I am working on it now. :) There will also be an iPhone and Android version soon too.

Please do not email me with questions about when it will be released, join the mailing list at www.pixelh8.co.uk and you will be told as soon as it's ready for download.

I just thought you should know what I was up to.

The making of the album. Next blog and onwards will be much more music musings. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx love fluv xxxxxxxx immi x :)"

Pixelh8 "Obsolete?"

via the Pixelh8 email list:
"I am very excited.
Recently I Pixelh8 have had the good fortune, with the help of The National Museum of Computing and the Performing Rights Society Foundation, to have a huge music project of mine funded. The project is to write a piece of music composed from sounds from some of the rarest and earliest computers and computing devices in the world to be performed at the World War II code breaking centre Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes on March 20th and 21st 2009.

The project entitled “Obsolete?” will make use of machines such as Colossus Mark 2 world’s first programmable, digital, electronic, computing device used for code breaking in World War II and probably one of, if not the most significant computer in the world. Another computer to be used is Elliot 803 from 1960, a giant machine that has only 4k!!! ithink it’s one of only three left in the world and I love it!

The blogs leading up to it have now also been declassified and can be accessed by going here http://pixelh8.co.uk/category/obsolete/

On the flipside the piece will also feature several other commonplace computing devices that have either been discarded or branded as “Obsolete?” as time moved on, so yes I will be using the ubiquitous BBC Micro too.

This will be chip tune music but unlike any other you have ever heard.

These machines have been restored to working order and in some cases completely reconstructed by volunteers and researchers at TNMOC, and I am honoured to be associated with these hard working men and women and the unique history of Bletchley Park.

This is to be one of many computer music related projects I am hoping to bring to the museum and I am very, very excited. I strongly recommend you go and visit The National Museum of Computing in the meantime, but you won’t get any more information about “Obsolete?” just yet, as it is classified information.

Midify Feature Demo

YouTube via Modd3d. via Nusonica. More info on Modd3d.
"Midify is a tiny board that lets you add a MIDI port to just about anything.

This is a demo of some of the features Midify offers. I've hooked LEDs up to all the outputs so it's easier to see what is happening.

The outputs are also connected to a Game Boy SP running PixelH8's Music Tech synth cartridge.

Features demoed:
-Easy to configure right from your keyboard or sequencer
-Poly Mode (play lots of notes at once)
-Mono Mode (play only one note at a time)
-High Note Priority Mode (the highest key you play wins in mono mode)
-Low Note Priority Mode (the lowest key you play wins in mono mode)
-Pause Mode (inserts a pause between each note you play so some devices that don't react quickly don't get confused)

Midify launches on 6-10-08. Go to http://www.division-6.com for more information."
