Professor William Hoskins' MOOG SONIC SIX

These images were sent in via Kimberly S Beasley, chair of the Department of Music at Jacksonville University, after seeing this post featuring Professor William Hoskins and a mystery moog based on the Sonic VI but with a touch sensitive keyboard instead of standard keys as you see on this one. See that post for additional details. It's a fascinating read.

According to Kimberly S Beasley, "This [Sonic Six] has been in the possession of our Professor Emeritus Dr. William Schirmer as it was given to him by Hoskins. Hoskins' granddaughter Dorothy is also aware of the instrument. We also have a large collection of manuscripts of Hoskins.

There is also a mini-Moog we just refurbished in our recording studio."

video upload by ParadisoModular

"This video describes and demonstrates a novel synthesizer module I recently designed and built out of a "Speech Synthesis" Kit that was distributed to schools by Bell Labs in the 1960s. After walking through some basic background on the kit and how I adapted it, I demo the kinds of sounds this module makes."

Stevie Wonder and the Yamaha GX-1 at Madame Tussaud's Rock Circus London

video upload by Preview London

"Madame Tussaud's Rock Circus (August 1989 – September 2001), was a walk-through exhibition celebrating the history of rock and pop music, featuring its major figures recreated in wax."

Update: video added. Stevie with the GX-1 comes in at 1:34.

This one is in via swissdoc

The following is a cut and paste from the text in the image. Not sure how well the text parsing is. Below is the text Google translated.

"Rock 'n' Roll war nun DIE Musik des westlichen Kultur und verkaufte nicht nur sich selbst, sondern auch alle möglichen anderen Produktel Einige der größten Geldsummen in den 'Cola Kriegen alkoholfreier Getränke gingen an Madonna, George Michael und Michael Jackson, die an den gefilmten Werbekampagnen teilnahmen. Große Tourneen wurden von Herstellern von Bier, Sportkleidung und Jeans finanziert. Klassische Rocksongs aus den sechziger Jahren wie beispielsweise '1 Heard It Through The Grapevine', 'I Feel Free' und "When A Man Loves A Woman' wurden als Soundtracks für Fernsehreklamen benutzt.

Wie es schon in dem alten Lied hieß: Rock 'n' Roll is here to stay!"

Googlish:

"Rock 'n' roll was now THE music of western culture and not only sold itself but all sorts of other products too Participated in advertising campaigns. Major tours were sponsored by manufacturers of beer, sportswear, and denim. Classic 1960s rock songs such as '1 Heard It Through The Grapevine', 'I Feel Free' and 'When A Man Loves A Woman' were used as soundtracks for television commercials.

In 1988, at an inauguration party, George Bush, the new President of the United States, grabbed an electric guitar and gave a stage performance along with a rock 'n' roll band. In 1989, a Russian astronaut team took bands with Pink Floyd music on their journey into space. As the old song said: Rock 'n' Roll is here to stay!"

Some info on Rock Circus via Wikipedia:

"Madame Tussaud's Rock Circus (August 1989 – September 2001), was a walk-through exhibition celebrating the history of rock and pop music, featuring its major figures recreated in wax. It was located at the top four floors of the then-newly refurbished London Pavilion building at Piccadilly Circus, London. Predominantly British artists featured, but many American artists were also included. The attraction told the story of rock and pop from the 1950s to the then-present day by using videos, music, narration and audio-animatronic figures."

Wave, microWave II, Q Yellow, Q Classic Blue, black microWave XT.

The Classic Blue Q ended up more of a greyish slate blue, and the black XT became known as the shadow XT. I forget if it was officially called the Shadow XT or that just became how it was refered to. The Classic Blue Q oddly became known as the Halloween Q because of the yellowish orange on dark grey.

Moog 1982 Product Catalog Featuring the DSC - Digital Sequential Controller

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Note the DSC in the 2nd image. Kind of looks like a Source minus keys. You can see one in the flesh in this previous post. According to the catalog:

DSC-To meet the need of performers demanding the versatility and freedom that can be attained with a sequencing device, Moog introduces the Digital Sequential Controller (DSC).

The DSC is an intelligent controller - it stores information played on a synthesizer keyboard and reproduces and manipulates that information in musically useful ways.

The DSC has three recording modes - normal, metronomic, and expanding. In the normal mode all keyboard technique (key depressions, slurs, etc.) - is recorded exactly as played. The metronomic mode disregards timing information and assigns the same time value to each event. The expanded mode stores anything that can be played on the synthesizer (including pitch bend, vibrato, and glide).

Four sequences can be stored (total storage approx 800 notes). The DSC will send the sequence information back to "play" the synthesizer. Sequences can be "chained" for playback in any particular order. Playback can be stopped and continued, or run in "single-step" mode. Notes within a sequence can be edited and corrected.

A "transpose chain" can be programmed and stored to produce automatic key changes. Output pulses can be programmed on any note or notes to trigger an external synthesizer, start or stop a tape recorder, etc. Glide can be added to any recorded sequence, in addition, recorded glide can be converted to quantized glissando.

The DSC generates a SMPTE compatible sync signal for synchronization with tape or additional controllers. All DSC information can be saved on a standard cassette for later re-use.

The DSC is more than a "sequencer", it is the most versatile controlling device available.
