An ARP 2500 in Eurorack Format?

CMS 1004 demo - The Pearlman Oscillator and T-mixer Published on Sep 24, 2018 Phil Cirocco

"This is a quick preliminary demo of the new CMS 1004 Pearlman Oscillator. This VCO is a faithful reproduction of the massive VCO circuit from the ARP 2500, shrunk down to euro rack format. An analog CRT oscilloscope shows some of the unique and interesting waveform combinations available. discretesynthesizers.com"

CMS is going eurorack with the CMS 1004T (ARP 2500) - Pearlman Oscillator and T-mixer

This is huge news. Not only the ARP 2500 1004T oscillator in eurorack format, but CMS entering the eurorack market as well. Phil Cirocco of CMS is known as the ARP specialist in the US. He works on vintage ARPs as well as designing his own synths, most recently the CMS 2607. Be sure to see the CMS label at the bottom of this post for more.

Pearlman, of course refers to ARP's founder Alan R. Pearlman.

Curious if CMS plans a full blown ARP 2500 in eurorack format. Imagine that. :)

Mint ARP 2500 Synthesizer for Sale and Videos

via Steve: "This is a once in a lifetime chance to own an Arp 2500 without breaking the bank to do it. The eBay listing tells the whole story- this Arp 2500 was purchased during ARP's bankruptcy auction, on site at ARP, by my friend Larry O. The modules were, and remained, in plastic wrap with tags right off the QA line. He recently assembled them into a 'mini' Arp 2500 system built into a cabinet from the QA dept of ARP.

It was fully serviced by Phil at CMS just now and is on eBay.

You will probably never, ever, see such a pristine and AFFORDABLE Arp 2500 for sale... Get it before its gone!"

via this auction:
"The Who’s Pete Townshend and Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page were only two of the devotees of this legendary instrument. Hell, it was the ARP 2500 that was used to call to the aliens in “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”!

The History
This extremely rare and primo system is the last of more than 100 modules and eight cabinets I personally purchased from the auction at the ARP factory when the company went out of business back in 1981. These modules were still wrapped in plastic with QA tags attached when I got them. (See recent photo of QA tags below.) They have seen very little use over the last 30 years (the QA tags are stamped with 1975 dates).

The cabinet resided in ARP’s Engineering Department, where it was used for prototyping new modules. The original serial number tag identifies it as being the 45th cabinet made in 1970 (70-045). Five of the modules and the cabinet sport ARP’s earliest logo (the “squishy lines”), while the rest have the “treble clef” logo.

Vintage? Oh yeah.
Needless to say, I cherry-picked a beautiful configuration to keep as my final remnant: four VCOs, two VCFs, two VCAs, four envelope generators, sample/hold, noise generators.

For the full auction story and a listening tour of this instrument, copy and paste these links to see my YouTube videos [below]

The Modules
This is one sweeeeet system, the likes of which you are not likely to see again. It’s the real deal:
1004-T Oscillator (mixable waveform)
1023 Dual Oscillator
1045 Voltage-Controlled Voice (this thing is The S**t)
1036 Dual Sample & Hold/Random Voltage
1003 Dual EG
1006 Filtamp
1016 Dual Noise

Click “Buy It Now” and get an additional 1006 Filtamp, also just back from service by CMS!

The Icing on the Cake
Included are an original, print Owner’s Manual, a CD containing PDFs of all the circuits and parts (though you really should have Phil do any work on it), and a cabinet extension cable.

On request I can provide an Excel doc containing The Gory Details: serial numbers, CMS service specifics, patching details for the outer slots."

Sold For: US $12,000.00

ARP 2500

images via this auction

"super-rare ARP 2500 from the personal collection of Phil Cirocco of CMS / Discrete Synthesizers. It features a rare, vintage ARP 2002 cabinet, a 3000 series four voice keyboard and a full compliment of 1000 series modules. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a fully functional, killer sounding synthesizer, as well as a rare piece of electronic music history. The 2002 cabinet is in good condition. It is all original and has not been restored. It was made in 1970. It is a very early and rare version featuring 10 patching tracks on the top section instead of the 20 that later versions use. The top section of a 2500 is only used for CV, gate and trigger etc. so 10 tracks is usually adequate for most situations. It has 20 tracks on the bottom as all 2500s do. Also, this early unit is more compact and uses its space more efficiently than later versions. (Many people complain about the large amount of real estate that later version 2500 cabinets use up.) The power supply was upgraded here at CMS about 2 years ago to a 1.5 Amp, low noise high performance unit. The separate 12v lamp power supply was also recently rebuilt. The Keyboard is a standard ARP 2500 4 voice split keyboard. The rubber mounts of the key contact PCB have been replaced. The key contacts have been cleaned. The rubber pads of the keyboard are intact. The keyboard is fully functional. The keys are in very good condition. The hardwood keyboard cabinet is in very good condition. There is a very small ding on the left keyboard control panel. It includes the keyboard connection cables as well as the AC cable. The 1000 series modules are fully functional and have been meticulously maintained here at CMS for the past decade. The module compliment includes the legendary ARP 1047 Multimode Filter and the ARP 1027 sequencer. The 1004T VCO and the 1036 Dual Sample Hold were originally owned by the ARP factory as production samples. The dual VCO is a super-rare prototype developed at ARP by Roger Powell and Clark Ferguson.

1004T VCO
1027 3 x 10 Sequencer
1023 Dual VCO
1005 Ring Mod / VCA
1047 Multimode Filter
1033 Dual EG with delay
1016 Noise / Random Voltage
1006 Lowpass filter / VCA
1036 Dual S/H, Clock
1003 Dual EG
1002 Power Control

This system has been fully calibrated recently here at CMS. If you want to hear an example of a 2500 system in action go to: discretesynthesizers.com

Several modules have a former owners name and serial # engraved the corners of the front panels. The veneer cabinet has 2 corners that have been rounded slightly, but they are in the back. The left side has some broken veneer on the front edge. I was planning to refinish the cabinet myself, but I never got around to it. It’s quite easy to separate the electronics from the cabinet. When all the modules are out of the case, the matrix switch/shelf assembly slides right out the back. The upper left matrix switch assembly looks like it took a small impact at one time, but it functions normally. This is a vintage instrument from 1970"

ALAN R. PEARLMAN FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES GIVING TUESDAY INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN KICKOFF

Press release follows.

The Foundation Announces the First Publicly-Accessible ARP 2500 in the USA

STONE RIDGE, NY, November 28, 2023: Thanks to a generous donation by former ARP employee Bruce McLendon, the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation is welcoming a 2508 Wing Cabinet into its collection of legendary ARP synthesizers.

This 2508 cabinet was assembled as a complete self-contained 2500 synthesizer featuring original oscillator, filter, sequencer, envelope and mix-sequencer modules, all linked by the flexible 2500 patch matrix system. It also contains a new oscillator module designed and built for the Foundation by Phil Cirocco of CMS (Discrete Music Systems).

The ARP Foundation is launching an IndieGogo campaign to raise funds to complete the restoration of what will become the only publicly-accessible ARP 2500 synthesizer in the USA, and to bolster its ARPs For All Program in preparation for the 2500’s arrival.

Introducing THE CMS 2607 - An ARP 2600 on Steroids

As you know, CMS (Cirocco Music Systems) is Phil Cirocco's synth company. He is not only the world's most renown ARP tech (BTW, see my CMS Lumina upgraded Odyssey here!), but also a manufacturer. THE CMS 2607 is his latest creation. Knowing it comes from him, you know this is going to be one great synth.

The following are some details via CMS:

"THE CMS 2607 6U RACK MOUNT INTEGRATED SYNTHESIZER

CMS is proud to unveil for the first time, our new synthesizer, the CMS 2607. We took all the features of the original ARP 2600, combined them with our world famous upgrades, added more cool stuff and then squeezed it all into a 6 space rack mount heavy duty enclosure. This particular incarnation is the '2500 version' that features a beautiful heavy duty brushed aluminum front panel. We are also currently making standard versions using grey and blue paint similar to the original ARP 2600 factory color schemes.

Initially, a very small quantity of special issue handmade 2607s will be made available to the general public until the factory produced models are available. These will be priced higher than the factory made mass produced units.

Price for one of the hand-made limited edition $8699.00. (9,499.00 for units with early type VCOs) plus packing and shipping charges.

Target price for the standard version 2607 will be 4999.00 USD . The standard version is not available at this time but we will soon be taking orders on the standard version. This price is subject to change. Check back with this page if you are interested in the standard version and can wait.

If you are interested in ordering one of the special issue limited edition 2607s now, send a paypal deposit of $3000.00 USD to filter@discretesynthesizers.com to register your order or mail us a personal check. Delivery guaranteed to be no longer than 4 months from the date of deposit. There is a limit on how many of these special order units that will be available for 2016, so contact us now if you are seriously interested.."

ARP 2500 Modular Synthesizer w/ Pair of Fully Loaded Wing Cabinets

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this eBay listing

This one was spotted and sent in via
M Me.

"Vintage ARP 2500 Modular Synthesizer system. Accompanying the ARP 2500 main cabinet is a pair of fully loaded wing cabinets. The main cabinet and keyboard were fully restored by Phil Cirocco (CMS) around 2011 as well were most of the modules in the wing cabinets. However the system has not been powered up or played since 2018 when I moved from Los Angeles to Tucson Arizona. It was working perfectly in 2018. Since sitting for 7 years the system will most likely need some small service to get it back to perfect. IT IS UNTESTED AND WILL NOT BE TESTED. IT IS BEING SOLD AS IS.

The previous service was meticulously done to satisfy my serious demand for the system to remain as original as possible. No modifications were done and all parts replaced with original or appropriate parts. The system is hyper clean in person and was clearly babied. It was used on notable lp's. You may live a 100 more years but will likely never find a better more complete ARP 2500 for sale. This system is priceless and was the most expensive new instrument when it was produced in the early 1970's.

I collected and played many Moog, ARP and Buchla modular systems. However owning so many systems became a burden. As well, switching between using Moog, ARP and Buchla took too much bandwidth. I sold all of my Buchla systems and this is my last and best ARP piece from my massive collection. Time for someone else to own it

CAN BE PICKED UP IN TUCSON AZ OR I CAN DELIVER TO LOS ANGELES CA"

ARP Odyssey 2800 with CMS Lumina Upgrade & Raggedy Ann for Christmas

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

I don't think Raggedy Ann comes with the listing.  She looks happy though.

"This auction is for an ARP Odyssey model 2800 in very good condition that has been recently restored to ARP factory specs by Phil Cirocco at CMS / Discrete Synthesizers. It features the Lumina slider upgrade (special 4 color edition), just in time to brighten up the under-tree display on Christmas morning! Here is the complete List: Lumina Slider Upgrade - special 4 color edition – see photos 34 high quality illuminated slide pots. The main focus of this upgrade is to install high quality sliders in an ARP Odyssey. The Odyssey and Avatar have similar circuitry to the 2600, however they used cheap, unreliable, plastic on plastic sliders. These brand new, high quality sliders from CMS feature a superior tactile feel and greatly improved accuracy. It basically transforms an unreliable old doorstop into a precision instrument, on par with the ARP 2600 and ARP 2500. The difference in reliability and accuracy is astonishing! The upgrade also features a blinking LFO slider indicating the LFO rate. The ADSR and AR sliders now feature dynamic LED readout of the envelope generator voltage levels. All Keyboard rubber bushings replaced with new and keyboard detailing. All key contacts cleaned and adjusted. Power supply rebuilt to factory. Separate power supply for slider LEDs. Audio Path Upgrade. Highpass filter bypass switch – Adds sub-bass to the output signal. LFO free run switch. ADSR time range switch – 3 position toggle features extra long time mode. AR time range switch – 3 position toggle features extra long time mode. New pitch bend knob. Front panel and internal restoration. Full calibration. Rear panel: CMS high speed interface jacks – CV, Gate and trigger ins and outs. ¼ inch Switchcraft high level output jack. ¼ inch Switchcraft external audio input jack. 4023 filter Merry Christmas!"

Analogue Solutions Introduces the TC5000 - ARP 2500 Inspired Synthesizer

video upload by sonicstate

"Tom's stand is hard to miss, always something massive and/or impressive to catch your attention ;-]

This year it's the turn of the TC5000, a synthesizer drawing inspiration from the ARP2500 with a patch matrix system along the lines of those he has developed since the Vostok. The TC5000 has a unique mix of circuits - compiled from years of development in products like the Fusebox and Colossus - and its user interface, for ease of patching across upper and lower matrices.

With a host of modules, including oscillators, filters, sequencers, and dual spring reverbs, Tom plans to provide a comprehensive package, with potential expansions through additional "wings" or systems.

Price is expected to be in the £22K range, available towards the end of the year"

This one is in via Soviet Space Child.

via Analogue Solutions:

"ANALOGUE PATCH PIN MATRIX SYNTH

This product is so new, we haven’t even finished this web page!

The selection of modules that will be configured in the final system will differ from the pre-production unit features in the current photographs.

WE ARE TAKING PRE-ORDERS NOW (DEPOSIT REQUIRED).
ETA TOWARDS THE END OF THE YEAR.

This is not an ARP2500 clone! TC5000 ustilises Analogue Solutions’ own circuits. Some are adapted from our other stunning synthesizers, like Leipzig, Telemark and Fusebox. Plus some new designs especially for this synthesizer.

TC5000 features two full width patch pin matrix panels that provide the same kind of UI experience that made the ARP2500 so incredible.

Using TC5000 for sounds design will give you a similar experience to the ARP. User interface is a very important aspect of sound design. It really isn’t all about the filter. How you interact with a synth is equally important. Different UI and working approaches means you will come up with patches you might otherwise not have come across using say, patch leads."

ARP 2500 modular synthesizer for auction

via this auction
"Rare, early ARP 2500 modular synthesizer in very good cosmetic condition and working 100%. A friend of mine bought this one from Phil Cirocco of CMS/Discrete Synthesizers in late 2007 and it's still working solid. As you can see, this is an earlier 2002 cabinet with a 3000 series four voice keyboard.

It includes the following modules-
1002 Power Control
1003 Dual Envelope Generator
1004T VCO
1005 Ring Mod / VCA
1006 Lowpass filter / VCA
1016 Noise / Random Voltage
1023 Dual VCO (rare prototype)
1027 3 x 10 Sequencer
1033 Dual EG with delay
1036 Dual S/H, Clock
1047 Multimode Filter

Cosmetically- The veneer on the cabinet does have some chipping here and there, but overall it still looks very good. Some of the modules have a former owners name and the serial # etched in on the corners.

Internally- According to Phil's description when he sold it, the power supply had been upgraded about 2 years prior to my friend buying it to a 1.5 Amp, low noise high performance unit. The separate 12v lamp power supply had also been rebuilt around that time.
The keyboard works great as well as all of the knobs, switches, matrix sliders, etc. No scratchy pots whatsoever! Phil obviously took care of this thing. I did notice that one of the LEDs on the sequencer has since burned out, but if this is an issue I can have it replaced.

This is not a plug in and play unit like an Arp 2600. Patching is required if you want sound. Please be aware of this."

"Thanks for watching!

EXTREMELY RARE!!! C.M.S. MR-15 ModRack Modular System at Berklee (Piece showing its possibilities) Every sound in this piece was recorded using the C.M.S. MR-15 ModRack Modular System, including drums and bass. It is not a performance, I recorded individual layers using different patches and only recorded one layer performed. All the other videos you see are of different patches as well as angles of this beautiful synth for your viewing pleasure.

If you want to find out more about the maker of the synth as well as his company, I will have both listed below. Phil's instruments are crafted with utmost precision, and it was so much fun to be able to use it for a few hours.

CMS 2500 Euro Rack Module Demo - 12 module system

Published on Mar 16, 2020 Phil Cirocco

"Here is a quick demo of the newly released CMS Euro Rack 2500 modules. This is my personal 12 module system. The audio quality and noise levels are actually superior to the original ARP 2500 system due to better layout of the circuit boards and no matrix switches. The flagship module of the series is the 1047 Colin Multi-mode Filter. Go to discretesynthesizers.com for more info."
