"This is an experiment for the AE Modular Patch Challenge #03 :) Listen on good speakers! Instead of lusting over new gear, we were supposed to patch something that does something similar to what we feel we need new hardware for. I've been lusting after a new Groove Box recently, so I created this dense, rhythmic and very dirty percussive and bass heavy ... thing :D More info here: http://forum.aemodular.com/post/1027/..."

AE Modular Wavefolder Tutorial, Patch Tips, & Jam #TTNM

The AE Modular Wavefolder, based on a vintage circuit design also used by Ken Stone, takes a waveform and clips and folds it. This creates a more complex sounding waveform, of which you can of course modulate the parameters with CV too. In this video I also present a few patch tips, for this seemingly simple module. Let me know if you have an questions :-)
Patch tips:
- Create a sine wave from a square wave VCO running through a low pass filter with low cutoff frequency. For pitch sequencing, you might want to add a little bit of pitch CV to the filter cutoff control too, not just the VCO. This is often called “keyboard tracking” in non-modular synths’ filter settings, which makes sure that the filter opens up a little on higher notes. Otherwise, a constant cutoff will dull the sound of higher notes more than lower notes.
- Feedback: Patch the input signal (e.g. a triangle wave) in a mixer and the mixer output in the Wavefolder. Then patch one Wavefolder output back into another mixer input and slowly turn the mix knob up. For voltage control over the feedback, patch the Wavefolder output in a VCA and from there into the mixer. Modulate the VCA with an LFO, Envelope, Sample & Hold or Sequencer then. Feedback can get very crazy quickly, so start with low knob and modulation settings.
- Since the Wavefolder creates complex (harsh sounding) waveforms, you can send them through a filter to smooth them. As they are different than your standard square or sawtooth waves, they also sound different, and often more interesting, through filters.
- Try modulating the Wavefolder’s shape with its input signal, i.e. send the triangle or sine wave audio signal in the audio input and the CV input as well."

TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES Tangible Waves AE Modular Drones
Playlist:
1. DRONE38 + DRONX + VACTROL PHASER // AE Modular Synth Jam #TTNM
Taking my new USB powered tangible waves AE Modular synth drone rack out for a spin. The DRONE38, DRONX and PHASER modules can create some fat, moving soundscapes, which I look forward to explore more. The DRONE38 offers six blocks of three oscillators, so 18 sound sources in total! You can switch between wave shapes and take blocks in and out of the performance. The DRONX module then mixes up to six audio signals and adds external send/return effects, as well as built-in bass/treble, overdrive and delay audio effects, turning everything into one thick and gooey sound collage :D2. 18 Oscillator Drone Music System // AE Modular Synth #TTNM
My little AE Modular Synthesizer Drone Music Rack in action again: DRONE38, DRONX and VACTROL PHASER! This time with more pronounced phaser audio effects, starting at 3:00, when I add some slow audio rate modulation from a drone oscillator. In the top right you can also see the METER oscilloscope module, which is cool :)3. MASSIVE STEREO WALL OF SOUND // All new AE Modular Synth Modules! #TTNM
Ready for more? Get out your headphones and press play! In this massive stereo AE Modular synth drone music piece I combine the new tangible waves AE Modular modules DRONE38, DRONEX, MIXCONSOLE, TRIP and more! The MIXCONSOLE acts as a seven input, stereo, VC-mixer with dual FX sends (MULTIFX and DRONX modules). ALGODRONE is sending audio through the Korg MS 20 filter and SVFILTER, which are audio-rate modulated and panned to the sides. The Dove Audio WAVETABLES module is sent through the WAVEFOLDER for deep, gnarly bass and the Wonkystuff RBSS "Turing Machine" module adds some randomness to plucky LOPAG sounds. Of course the QUANTIZER is used for pitch seequencing. Lastly, the TRIP trigger processor adds delayed, chance-based triggers for less static rhythms.THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES:

I sent a wavefolded triangle wave into the new AE Modular State Variable Filter (SVF), which also self-resonates and receives the same pitch CV as the triangle VCO. I also patched the bandpass output into the CV2 input of the SVF to get a different waveform from the self-oscillation. The result runs through the new AE Modular LOPAG vactrol lowpass gate module, for plucky percussion sounds. Then there are a bunch of other VCOs, the Lofi Delay and MultiFX Shimmer Reverb. I sequenced everything the with 16 step sequencer, S&H and Clock Divider.
Afterwards, I played some iFretless Bass and VOLT synths on top on the iPad."

There are two typical VCO-VCF-ENV voices playing. One is a slow sequence with pitch CV form the SEQ16 and the other is faster, created by a prototype voltage-controlled algorithmic sequencer I'm building at the moment. This one also acts as a voltage controlled switch, switching noise and other static VCOs into the mix and it also provides occasional triggers for one half of the LOGIC module. The other triggers going into the LOGIC are from the STEP10 sequencer. The LOGIC's XOR output then triggers the LOPAG. The touch plates control the filter cutoff of the SVFilter and Wasp filter. Everything goes through the MULTIFX Resoverb then."

- LepLoop Apropone Bass and Chord synth. Demo video here: [posted here]
At the beginning you can hear the new AE Modular SVFilter on-beat and the LOPAG Vactrol LPG off-beat. Then I fade in two other voices, one which is an oscillator going through the Wasp Filter and another one through the Nyle Filter. There is also a steady white noise beat coming in later at about 2:10, a bit of filter modulation and of course the Lep Loop Arpopone, generating bass and chord stabs (starting at around 1:35). The Arpopone is synced to an AE Modular LFO, which in turn is synced to the master clock (another AEM LFO), so that it doesn't produce a steady clock, but a faster pattern, which is fun. Syncing LFOs is great!"

Published on Mar 3, 2019 The Tuesday Night Machines
"This is an experiment for the AE Modular Patch Challenge #08 :) We were tasked to only use four modules and eight patch wires, which I think worked out quite well ... if you like reverb-drowned, ambient drone music. Haha! PATCH NOTES BELOW + more info here: http://forum.aemodular.com/thread/196...

Patch Notes:
4 Modules:
VCO, VCO, LOGIC, MULTIFX
8 Wires:
VCO 1 square to VCO 2 CV2
VCO 1 square to LOGIC 1A input
VCO 2 square to VCO 1 CV2
VCO 2 square to LOGIC 1B input
LOGIC NAND to VCO 2 CV
LOGIC AND to VCO 1 CV
LOGIC XOR to MULTIFX input
MULTIFX to MASTER I/O audio out
I set the MULTIFX to Shimmer in Lo-Fi mode and turned just the wet output up at the beginning. Then I play mostly with the VCO pulse width and coarse frequency knobs. The pulse width knob can silence the square wave VCO output when set to max width, so it's a crude way to turn down the volume of the VCO. Of course there is a lot of cross-modulation happening, so there are weird pitch changes, etc. but the Shimmer effect smoothes everything nicely into some kind of ambient drone music :D"

AE Modular WAVETABLES by Dove Audio #TTNM
THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES
"This is a demo video for the AE Modular WAVETABLES modular synth VCO, developed by Paula Maddox of Dove Audio and released by tangible waves.
♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support ♥
WAVETABLES offers 7 tables, filled with plenty of high quality synthesizer waveforms to switch and morph between. Table 7 contains human voice fragments for vowel synthesis and other weird sounds. You can fatten the sound with the spread/detune knob and of course control the wave selection with CV. As a first in the AE Modular format, modulation inputs allow CV subtraction, via a bipolar switch circuit!"
Note this module is by Paula Maddox of Dove Audio and Modal Electronics.
"A high-quality diital wavetables oscillator
The WAVETABLES module is a digital oscillator that is based of wavetables, a technique that become popular first with the famous PPG synthesizer. Here, a huge number of digital waveforms can be "scanned", resulting in a morphing between a variety of interesting spectral structures.
The module offers seven different table sets, in each of them an interesting spectral move happens via the WAVE knob. Of course, this can be modulated by an external CV too.
To 'fatten' the sound, the DETUNE/SPREAD knob adds a second oscillator with a variable detune up to one octave.
Pitch and wave modulation have an attenuator knob to set the amount of modulation, plus a switch to choose between unipolar (modulation CV is added to the current value) or bipolar (modulation swings above and below the current value).
The table position of the currently played waveform has a visual representation by an LED that changes it's color in the rainbow spectrum.
WAVETABLES is based on a quite powerful processor, the output is 16-bit audio, resulting in a high-quality sound.
This module was developed by Paula Maddox from DOVE audio; known by the excellent synthesizers MODAL 002, MODAL 008 and we are pround and happy that Paula offered to contribute this excellent work for the AE modular product line.
More information and examples on the AE Modular Wiki.

Electribe 2 Sampler + AE Modular Synth #TTNM
Published on Sep 15, 2019 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES
"Another jam with the Korg Electribe 2 Sampler and AE Modular. More info below :)
♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support ♥
To make things easier for me with the Electribe 2S, I used this blank pattern file to reset all factory content:
https://innerportalstudio.com/electri...
... and this cool sample manager for OSX and Windows:
http://appification.de/ElectribeSampl...
For this jam I used AE Modular drum samples again, which I synthesized with the modular the old-school way, without drum modules, but with regular VCOs, filters, a waveshaper, a lowpass gate, etc.
So all sounds are from the AE Modular, even those coming from the Electribe Sampler. The groovebox is clocking the AE Modular via its analog sync output (the one you also find on the Korg Volca devices) and there are two modular synth voices running in the AE rack. One with a SEQ16 melody and another with just two alternating notes.
During the jam I tweak filter and envelope parameters on the AE Modular and mutes and effects on the Electribe."
