MFB DRUM-06 Tom Tom

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via eBay UK
"Module comes with box, screws and ribbon cable -

analogue Tom Tom based upon MFB-503
CV-control for Decay, Tune, Pitch and Panorama parameters
Noise and Attack controls
dynamic trigger-input

The DRUM-06 module is based upon the Tom Tom circuit found in the MFB-503. The sonic possibilities have been expanded for extensive editing and modulation capacities.

DRUM-06 is meant to be used in a modular synthesis system. Therefore, most of the Tom Tom’s sound parameters, i.e. Decay, Tune, Pitch and Panorama, can be put under CV-control. This allows sound manipulation from envelope generators, LFOs, step-sequencers and many other modules.

The Tom Tom parameters in detail:
Decay sets the decay time of up to two seconds for both tonal oscillators.
Tune defines the Tom Toms’s basic pitch between 80 to 300 Hz.
Pitch controls the duration of a pitch-modulation with fixed modulation intensity.
Panorama allows stereo positioning of the Tom Tom because of its dual outputs.
Attack sets the attack sound component when a virtual drumstick hits the drumhead.
Noise adds a noise component to the sound.

Triggering of the Tom Tom is possible through various signal types. Besides analogue and digital trigger-signals, drum-pads, piezo- and dynamic microphones may be used because of variable input sensitivity. Dynamic triggering will not only affect the sound’s volume but also decay and pitch.

The module has a width of 60 mm (12 TE).

The BEAST Roland TR-606 SN#001 of 7

via this auction

"One of the greatest cult legend drum machines of all time, behold serial number one, the first of only 7 ever made. The following is adapted from the website:
Uploaded by shagghie on Oct 2, 2010

The fluidity of the 606, Roland's *only* drum machine that can switch seamlessly between write and play modes, is well known, however the static sound and poor interfacing leaves it wanting.
TheBeast Modification addresses these issues.

Before modification all original components are cleaned and / or replaced
All tact switches are replaced using genuine alps parts (not cheap chinease imports)
All original leds are changed to blue to match new function leds
All new parts chosen by track record for durability (eg new 'cliff' sockets, as per analogue systems modular etc.)

A live session with the beast, the Kicker, and fx pedals:

Pedal chain pain brain (live TR-606/PC-2 + pedals +fx) by highsage [Modded Beast TR-606 and PC-2 fed into a modular pedal signal chain with built in feedback loops used to create chord sounds and filters in series to get vocally-type fx from LT/HT parts. Recorded live off the mixer straight to tape with no edits. Kick is the Kicker pedal being fed the kick's trig out of the 606. Partial shot of the signal chain in the pic. Inspired by the music going on at Krautok / Maria right now in Berlin. Hope to do a similar set there live some time in the (very) near future!] This machine has more character and grit than anything out there. Best snares you'll ever hear. Most "alive" Toms ever. Unique hats and cymbals, and a kick that is perfect for today's minimal and acid. The temp mute switches are ingenious.. the ULTIMATE live jam and studio machine as a result. Build quality is unparalleled for a modified Roland of this era. This machine has been used on Vinyl releases from Berlin, as well as digital techno and acid releases in North America. It is signed on the bottom (full disclosure) by Julian, its creator. Consider this a once in a lifetime opportunity. Roland TR-606 The Beast

images via this auction, via the Matrixsynth Forum.

"Roland TR-606 with 'The Beast' modification. This is by far the best 606 mod available, implemented to the highest quality by the designer. This mod doesn't come cheap. I'm gutted to let this go, but one of my monitors died over christmas, and I need to raise funds fast for a new set. Amazing condition, and awesome sounds.

via Make Noise

The Make Noise/soundhack Spectraphon is a dual Spectral Oscillator coded by Tom Erbe of soundhack. It uses real-time spectral analysis and resynthesis to create new sounds from those that already exist. It is inspired by classic electronic musical instruments of the past, including spectral processors, additive synthesis, vocoders, and resonators especially the Buchla 296 and Touché, but it takes a physical form more resembling the classic analog dual complex oscillator in the lineage of the Buchla 259 and the Make Noise DPO.

The Spectraphon is the first module to be built by Make Noise on its new digital hardware platform. This hardware, engineered by Jeff Snyder and Tony Rolando, provides more i/o at higher resolutions, and a lower noise floor than we have ever had access to in a digital module, allowing us to unleash Tom Erbe’s DSP code to a previously unattainable degree.

The Spectraphon has two nearly identical sides, A and B, which oscillate in one of two ways: Spectral Amplitude Modulation (SAM), or Spectral Array Oscillation (SAO). In SAM, instead of oscillating at all times like an analog VCO, sound at the Spectraphon’s input is used to modulate the amplitude of a set of harmonics. In SAM the Spectraphon can be sequenced and frequency modulated like any VCO. At any time the current spectrum can be used to create an Array for later use in SAO mode where the Spectraphon oscillates at all times, with the spectrum at the Odd and Even harmonic outputs being drawn from those stored Arrays.

The Slide and Focus controls are mode-dependent: in SAM, they determine how the Spectraphon responds to sound at the input for Spectral AM, while in SAO, they are used to modulate the Array. In either mode (SAM or SAO), the Partials control works as a combined amplitude and timbre gate for the Odd and Even harmonic output and the FM Bus will create high definition internal frequency modulation from the opposing side of the Spectraphon. The two sides can also interact via the internal FM Bus, the Follow and Sync modes, and by patching them together.

Jomox XBase 888 Analog Drum Synthesizer SN 2008-0146

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

You can find a demo of one here.

"This a Rare Analog Drum Synthesizer with the following description:

There are several notable new features on the XBASE 888:

The kick drum and the tom toms now each have an adjustable pitch envelope and sound even phatter than before! The analog noise parameter of the snare and hi hat can be “metal-ized” to create sounds extremely similar to vintage drum machines and is fully adjustable!

And, because it has no X-Filter, the XBASE 888 is more affordable than the 999. But it still has an unbeatable sound, this little beauty!

· 9 Instruments

Bass Drum, Snare Drum, Lo Tom, Hi Tom, Hi Hat, Clap, Rim, Crash and Ride. All instruments are polyphonically playable and have individual outs. The bass drum, snare drum, lo tom and high tom are true analog circuits, and for the remainder of the sounds, the XBASE 888 uses short 8-bit samples, each routed through an analog envelope. The sample flash ROM contains 31 samples per instrument, so there's a total of 186 samples (The Hi Hat section contains 2 separate samples for Closed and Open HH).

· Real analog sound production

The BD, SD, LT and HT use true analog circuits with full digital control, which allows the storage of presets and full midi control of all parameters. To keep the analog circuitry as pristine as possible, all D/A converters are specially designed for and integrated into the circuits with proven XBASE/AirBase technology.

Sound Of: Modor DR-2 Digital Drum Machine Algorithms/Models

video by Sound Provider

"In this rather long video I tried to present you all the algorithms of the Modor DR-2 one by one, a drum machine that does not have many demos on the net to give you an idea of the variety of sounds it produces. I really like this drum machine which some algorithm allow to create rare or unique sounds like with the Claps or theRattle Model (Check the Time Line at the end of the description)

I focused mainly on the models here and I don't show or very little the more advanced functions like accents, random variations, compressors, reverse function...

I am recording now a lot this superb Drum Synth for the next sound bank for sound Provider ( https://www.sound-provider.eu/ ) and also for my personal tracks.

For those interested I have posted a shorter video of the machine on a Techno demo here : [posted here]

Otherwise I wanted to apologize, I realized during the editing that I had left a snare drum in the back that we sometimes hear in the background.

different step-lengths per instrument
programmable accent- and pitch-bend-functions
144 patterns with A/B-variations, fill-function to chain various patterns
3 CV- and 2 Gate channels
roll- and flam-recording
individual and global swing-quantization
recording of control-value per step
12 individual outputs, stereo output
MIDI- and clock-sync, MIDI-dump
microshift-function via MIDI (future update)
metal chassis with wood side panels
MSRP: 840,- Euro

MFB's Tanzbär drum-computer offers fourteen analogue percussion instruments as well as a synthesizer for bass- and melodic voices. Its integrated step-sequencer allows flashlight-programming and storage of up to 144 patterns. All parameters can be recorded per step! Because of its ability to control and call up all functions on the fly, while the unit is running, Tanzbär is ideally suited for live performances.

Using the fill-function, patterns can be chained for longer sequences. In addition, every pattern offers A/B variations that can be switched manually or automatically for further flexibility. Also, Tanzbär allows saving 16 flame and roll-variations.

The step-length is controllable per instrument, allowing easy creation of polyrhythmic structures. Possible resolutions are 32th and 16th steps as well as 16th- and 8th triplet-steps. The shuffle amount can be continuously controlled globally and per instrument.

Each instrument offers three accent intensities. Add the bend-function to create glides and LFO-like sweeps for bass drum 1/2, snare drum and toms 2/3.

In addition to the percussion-instruments, Tanzbär offers addressing external instruments using its two CV/Gate outputs; one being able to control dynamics via a third CV-output. The same tracks are routed to the internal bass- and melody-synthesizer voices. An ideal solution to pre-listen and program patterns without any need for external equipment.

The CV/Gate-sequencer offers a range of three octaves and is programmable using two methods. All parameters are output via MIDI, allowing control of external instruments. The drum-computer can be synchronized via MIDI- and clock-signals.

An additional MIDI-input is available to control further functions, such as microshift (planned for future update). In addition, an editor is planned.

Finally, Tanzbär not only offers a master volume knob but individual level controls and mute-functions per instrument. The unit provides a stereo output as well as twelve individual outputs.

Instrument parameters:
Bassdrum 1: Decay, Pitch, Pitch Modulation, Transient Level, Transient Type, Noise Level, Noise Filter, Distortion
Bassdrum 2: Decay, Pitch, Transient Level
Snare: Pitch, Detune, Noise Level, Noise Decay, Blend Tone 1/2, Decay, Tone Pitch

"This is a fantastic drum machine, the best sounding one I've ever had. It's generally out of stock in the US. This one was obtained from Schneiders Laden in Germany. It shows no signs of wear/scratches and it's been used only in my smoke-free studio. I'm selling everything and this is the last one to go since I love it so much. It retails at $1,200. It came with a German power supply but I will include the US adapter.

Modded TR-909

via greg on the AH list:
"i did the colin fraser mods (all fantastic), plus:
extended ranges for most of the decay and pitch controls
snare pitch envelope alteration switch (removes pitch decay or increases depth)
snare noise filter frequency
snare vco2 pitch
tom pitch eg cut
tom vco2 pitch
tom noise level
rim shot pitch
clap pitch
clap number (of "claps")
clap speed
clap reverb level
hh swap switch (swaps open and closed samples)
crash and ride extended pitch switches
trigger mute switches for all sounds
noise shift register tune (adjusts the rate of the noise down to digital crunchiness)

most of these were pretty easy with the schematics, swapping resistors, etc.

i think all these mods are quite useful.

"Jomox Xbase 888 drum machine, in great condition and updated to OS 113. Comes with Jomox power supply.

9 Instruments

· 16 knobs
Sound editing is made by continuous rotary encoders for every analog parameter, allowing you to edit the sounds without jumps or awkward turning situations. Close to each knob there is a 3-color LED indicating which parameters are editable for the selected instrument.

This one ships from Ukraine.

"The unit is professionally serviced, tested & perfect working condition with signs of use.

"Formanta UDS fully analog electronic percussion synthesizer. Formanta UDS is soviet version of classic analog beat-box so as Roland TR and Simmons. Synth was prodused in 80-s years in USSR on the same military plant in Kachkanar where well known synth Polivoks was developed.
Sound of UDS is very aggressive and "military". And it looks like the piece of soviet army gear - heavy, khaki colored and studded with knobs. It is very powerfull drum synth. You have 5 independent channels of drum sound synthesis. In every channel you can change: trigger signal sensitivity, base tone pitch, pitch envelope time, amount of pitch modulation, noise/tone ballance, filter's cutoff for noise, accent amount, channel's volume. Then we have additional channel for cymbal and hi-hat synth sounds. UDS has its own onboard drum sequencer with 16 different drum patterns. You can start sequencer, choose one from 16 patterns and change its temp by knob. You can switch every synthesis channel to its preset sound or switch it in "synthesis" mode and then control channel's parameters by 8 knobs. Also you can trig every channel by external trigger source - drum mashine, analog sequencer or electronic drum pad. On its top there are mono sum audio out and stereo audio out. All audio plugs in common jack standart. You can get many cool grooves just using its internal sequencer, not to mention external triggering.

FORMANTA UDS

via this auction
"Formanta UDS is powerfull 7 channel analog drum synthesizer, produced by the same FORMANTA factory in Kachkanar city where mades famous Polivoks synths in eighties. It has 5 identical channels (which can be used freely) for BASS DRUM, HIGH TOM, MIDDLE TOM, LOW TOM, SNARE and two channels for Hi-hats and Cymbals. The synth has also built-in beatbox with 16 patterns. The beatbox and the synthesizer are independent modules so they can work at the same time freely. And you can tweak the generators of the beatbox patterns. Full freedom. Each channel has trigger Input on a standart 1/4 mono Jack and two additional Inputs for pedals. It can be triggered from drum pads like Simmons or any audio source - Line Outs of the drum machine or soundcard etc. The synth has two parallel mono Outs (1/4 Jack and 5Din) and two parallel stereo Outs (left-right on 1/4 Jacks and 5Din). It also has 5Din socket for Rhythm-Stick hand controller. This is an armoured antitank piece of gear and the sound it produces is very unique!
