Why J3PO Keeps Coming Back to the Prophet 5/10
video upload by Julian J3PO Pollack
"The Prophet 5 and Prophet 10 (both the reissue and the vintage ones) are iconic synths—but are they still relevant today?
My name is Julian Pollack (AKA J3PO) and In this video, I share my honest thoughts after spending years with the Prophet 10 reissue: what makes it so inspiring, why I can get bored with it,, and why—despite its limitations—I keep coming back to it.
No FX. Very limited modulation. Mono output. No frills. Just that raw, three-dimensional sound that somehow cuts through everything and makes us want to come back for more.
π️ Get my Prophet 5/10 presets from my website: https://www.julianpollack.com/shop/p/...
CHAPTERS:
00:00 Intro
01:40 Dry Examples (no FX)
04:03 Lead Patches with FX
04:59 Exp. & Sustain Pedal Tricks
07:10 Sawtooth Patch with Chorus & Reverb
08:36 Patch Demos with FX

If you're curious about the Prophet 5/10—or wondering why it was reissued and why people still talk about the original vintage ones decades later—this video is for you.
All the music you hear in this video (including the underscore) was created with ONLY my Prophet 10."

The Power Of CS1x - Ep2 - The X-Files, Resident Evil 2, The Shining, Deep Red, The Fog and Thriller
video upload by KOSmusic
"For this second episode dedicated to the Yamaha CS1x, we wanted to create a special episode entirely dedicated to horror (both songs and soundtracks).
When I was thinking about this episode, I thought it would be magnificent to have a presentation like Cryptkeeper in the 90s TV series 'Tales from the Crypt' or the wonderful voice of Vincent Price in the iconic monologue of 'Thriller'. Obviously I would not have been able to create a voice like that (especially in English), but thanks to my dear friend Julian Croot this wish came true!
Thanks to his cover of 'Thriller', in which he also recreated the voice of Vincent Price, I immediately thought of him for the voice of the character in this video!
His incredible work on this voice gave a soul to the character Mr. Shiver that you can hear in this video!"

"Midibox MB6582 Maxed Out with eight SID 8580's C64 chips, MIDI capable. Includes original C64 power adaptor.
Condition is Used and it is DIY. It's maxed out with eight 8580R5 SIDs. They are noisy. Beautiful blue panel from Julian. LED's though not too bright. A nice illuminated fan on the back with the "overdrive" pots. Loaded with latest firmware. Has the clear custom plexi window to protect the LCD. The encoders do tend to "bounce" but from my understanding it's normal, and totally manageable if you don't twist too quickly. Sold as is. Sid heaven! Why build your own when you can buy this one?"

J3PO King Korg Neo Presets -- Official Sounds Demo
video upload by J3PO
"You can purchase the preset pack here:
https://www.julianpollack.com/shop
The introductory price is $29.
All FX (chorus, reverbs, delays, etc.) are coming from within the patches themselves i.e. there's no other external processing on this demo save for some slight light leveling/compression for the purpose of uploading to YouTube.
The King Korg Neo is an unexpected gem, challenging assumptions about what a compact, portable, digital synth can be. Its sound is both vibrant and complex, weaving warm, analog-like textures with modern digital tones that feel raw yet polished. With a bold 24-voice polyphony and versatile oscillators, the King Korg Neo manages to feel timeless and forward-looking, carrying an unmistakable authenticity.
I also have patches available for the Prophet Rev 2, Prophet 6, OB-6, OB-X8, Prophet 5/10, Softube Model 84, Model 72, Arturia OB-Xa, Arturia Stage-73 and many others. If you're a Nord Stage 3 user, download my bank from the Nord Keyboards website. I have a sample pack, "J3PO x The Ox" (hip hop and soul keyboard and drum loops) available on Splice.
About the sound designer: Julian “J3PO” Pollack is a Los Angeles-based pianist/keyboardist and producer described by Timeout New York as a musician who “deftly balances virtuosity with tenderness.” Julian is known for his innovative use of keyboards and synthesizers in jazz, fusion, hip-hop, and electronic styles of music. Julian has toured extensively with the legendary artists Marcus Miller and Chris Botti, as well as performing with greats such as Herbie Hancock, Talib Kweli, David Sanborn, Michael League, Eric Harland, and others. "**NOW WITH BEAUTIFUL NEW BACKLIGHT & FRESHLY MADE FACTORY SOUND DISKS - SEE TWO REVISED PICS UNDER THUMBNAILS** I used this in my time with Tears For Fears. Subsequent to that I used the MPC60 with many artists and producers I have worked with from Julian Lennon to Hugh Cornwall to Peter Hammill etc etc.. The MPC60 flight case has an issue with the foam which is starting to disintegrate, and needs replacing. The MPC60 is is in full working order however aesthetically it bears the life of having done many sessions with me and has travelled pretty much everywhere with me on sessions here and abroad. Until I bought my MPC3000 from Level 42 I used this machine extensively. It comes with its original manual. The Serial Number is: 21055-04306 and the software version is 2.12. Now at VEMIA, and has been thoroughly checked ready for this auction. Several tact switches have been replaced as they were starting to be a bit unreliable. The disk drive saves and loads fine. In future it could always be replaced by an HxC USB emulator but no need now. Packing: 30GBP - separate packing if a courier is used. Otherwise the flightcase should be OK for hand collection or delivery if the MPC is covered with polythene - the foam is starting to go. (25GBP of the packing charge refunded)."

Oberheim TEO-5 INHALT Synth Demo
video upload by INHALTVIDEO
"Following up from my work on the beta development and sound design on the Oberheim OB-X8, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the next Oberheim synth would be the TEO-5. Unpacking the beta unit revealed a beautiful and cleverly designed 5 voice analog synth that simply sounds amazing.
The size of the TEO-5 is absolutely perfect for world wide gigging and the sound is a sort of best of Oberheim with a modern twist. That modern twist doesn't exclusively come from the excellent FX processor on board, but also from the interesting modulation options and ranges. While you can push the synth into harmonic and saturated zones, it still, like all Oberheims remains one large sweet spot.
Don't be fooled by the smaller size and voice count, there is nothing small about the sound and capability of the TEO-5. Not to be missed.
Please note this recording is of a beta development unit running an early firmware. The sounds featured here are the patches I made for the shipping factory bank that comes with the synth straight from Oberheim.
Recorded at Infinite Power Studios, Los Angeles. All patches by Matia Simovich/INHALT. Video edited by Grover Greenberg."
SUPERBOOTH 2024: Oberheim - TEO-5
video upload by sonicstate
"At Superbooth 2024 we met up with David Gibbons from Oberheim who introduced us to the new TEO-5 synthesizer. Named after Tom Oberheim with an exclusive reveal of Tom's middle name, the TEO-5 has a SEM filter, two oscillators and a sub giving that classic Oberheim sound, but with lots of features to bring its capabilities right up to date.
Chris Calcutt then stepped up, and gave us a demo of the sound of this synth. TEO-5 gives us 19 mod slots with tons of destinations, both a mono and a poly LFO, two envelopes and a capable twin FX section. Uniquely there is a cross-mod section with thru-zero capabilities, which allows FM modulation that stays in tune up and down the keyboard.
With a similar form factor to the Take 5, the TEO-5 has a 3 and a half octave Fatar keyboard with aftertouch, and is designed to give the Oberheim sound in a more portable and affordable package
TEO-5 Available: July 2024. Price: 1,499 USD

"A Quick Look any the new Oberheim TEO-5 - named after Tom Edison Oberheim - there was a leak a few weeks back but it's here in the flesh.. and nice it is too.
Its got the same form factor as there Sequential Take 5. The big addition is obviously the Oberheim filter, and a through zero FM - so it looks like it has the new SSI chip.
Anyway.. just a Quick Look.. enjoy:)"

TEO-5: The Legendary Oberheim Sound Reborn in a Compact Powerhouse
San Francisco, CA – [May 16, 2024] – Oberheim, the venerable brand synonymous with the golden age of synthesizers, proudly announces the TEO-5 polysynth. This powerful instrument features the visionary craftsmanship of Thomas Elroy Oberheim (TEO), offering a perfect blend of classic analog warmth and modern versatility for today's musicians.
“I’m so proud to be able to make a synth like this... compact and affordable, the Oberheim sound for 2024,” says Tom Oberheim, the company’s founder. TEO-5 is designed to make the classic Oberheim tone palette widely accessible, encapsulating decades of analog engineering experience in a forward-thinking and innovative musical instrument.
The TEO-5 boasts a five-voice architecture with genuine analog VCOs and VCFs, capturing the distinctive warmth and depth that defined countless hit records. But TEO-5 isn't just a tribute to the past. Additions like through-zero FM, which adds a contemporary twist to its oscillator X-Mod feature, allow for the exploration of entirely new sonic textures. And the legendary Oberheim SEM filter returns, offering the versatility of morphing between low- pass, notch, and high-pass configurations, along with a switchable band-pass mode for extensive tonal shaping.
Beyond its core synthesis architecture, TEO-5 features a comprehensive modulation matrix, opening a world of possibilities for sculpting and transforming sounds. Digital effects processors provide classic chorus, delay, reverb, and more, alongside faithful recreations of the revered Oberheim Ring Mod and Phasor effects. A 64-step polyphonic sequencer and multimode arpeggiator further fuel creative exploration, while a premium Fatar keybed ensures a responsive and inspiring playing experience.
“There was a huge surge of interest when Oberheim returned in 2022 with the historically inspired OB-X8,” said David Gibbons, CEO of Oberheim. “But Tom and the design team were keen to show that the magic of Oberheim can be within reach for everyone, and can bring a distinctive modern flavor. TEO-5 is an exciting addition to the Oberheim legacy.”
Whether you're a seasoned professional seeking a powerful new sonic tool or a budding artist embarking on your analog adventure, TEO-5 is your gateway to unparalleled musical exploration.

Replica Buchla 100 series modular synth: LA67 Mort’s Barge
video upload by Tom Churchill
"This video is about Mort’s Barge - a replica mini-system of five Buchla 100 series modules that were used by electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick in the mid-1960s. I recently built the 4U DIY modules from LA67, and in this video I walk through the features and create a few patches that show what they’re capable of.
My build notes are here:
https://www.modwiggler.com/forum/view...
Find out more about the Mort’s Barge DIY set on the LA67 website:
https://www.lasesentaysiete.com/mort-..."
You can find additional posts featuring Mort's Barge here.

Notes and pics via Tom Churchill's post on Mod Wiggler:
"I thought I’d share a couple of things I learned along the way which maybe aren’t immediately obvious from the BOMs alone, in case anyone else is planning to tackle the build and is looking for some tips.
Some of this stuff has no doubt been covered earlier in the thread, so apologies for any repetition. Also, a lot will probably be obvious to experienced builders, but I’m definitely not in that category yet, so for anyone else (like me) who’s only built Eurorack kits previously, maybe isn’t super-familiar with circuit theory and component sourcing, it might be useful.
Enclosure:
After I ordered the panels and PCBs from LA67 I contacted Julian at The Beast to ask about his 6U Buchla boats. As luck would have it he still had a couple of the special boats he supplied to LA67 for the pre-built Mort’s Barge systems, with matt black coating and pre-drilled holes for power inlet, power switch and grounding banana socket, so I snagged one.
I added some rubber feet to allow a bit of clearance for the screws I used to mount the PSU PCB (see below) and to avoid the underside getting scratched.
For mounting the modules, I bought a pack of 20 M3 speed fasteners (aka captive nuts, aka Tinnermans) from eBay, and secured the modules using M3 6mm screws with plastic washers.
Power:
The PSU PCB doesn’t require any caps and you just need to solder one bridge as marked. (This is now clear on the Mort’s Barge PSU BOM, but it wasn’t at first.)
I mounted the PSU PCB on 8mm M2.5 standoffs via the pre-drilled holes in the bottom of the boat.
I added a 2.1.mm DC inlet and wired a 20mm round rocker switch in series.
I added a single banana socket connected to 0V to provide a ground for any other cases I might want to use with it (and for connecting to Eurorack - see below).
For the AC-DC converter I just used a standard 12V 2A wall wart I had lying around, with a 2.1mm centre positive barrel connector.
I used the 2-pin Molex connectors as per the BOM to distribute power to the individual modules (with the power cables hard-wired to the individual module PCBs)
Component sourcing:
I combined the individual BOMs for the five modules into one master BOM, ticked off what I already had in stock (mostly resistors), then ordered any other required resistors, trimmers, pots, 2N3904/6 transistors and various bits of hardware from Tayda; caps, specialist transistors, diodes, switches, knobs, lamps etc from Mouser.
I’m in the UK and banana sockets worked out slightly cheaper from Thonk, so I ordered those there. I also bought the necessary matched transistor pairs from Thonk to save time (I don’t have the tools or experience to match them myself!)
Changes:
This might be sacrilege to Buchla purists but I went for Switchcraft 3.5mm sockets instead of Tini-Jax - I already have lots of 3.5mm patch cables and it makes for easier integration.
The 910p film caps on the BOM are huge - 10mm lead spacing - and expensive. I ordered them before I realised this, and with a bit of leg straightening/bending they do fit fine in the 158 and 180 boards, but I replaced them with these much smaller and cheaper 1n mylar film caps for the 140 - https://www.switchelectronics.co.uk/1nf ... apacitor-5 - and they work just fine.
The BOM has since been corrected, but slightly annoyingly at the time I was ordering, the part code for the Dialight lamps in the 123 was out of date, so the ones that arrived in my original order were the wrong size. I had to do a separate order for the correct parts, 609-1122-130F. These aren’t cheap, so double check that you’re getting 9mm ones!
On the 158 BOM, there’s a suggestion to use 1n5 instead of 47n for C11 to reduce saw wave distortion. I put sockets in for that and tried both - the 1n5 definitely gives a much cleaner saw so I’ve stuck with that. I also left out C8 as suggested to improve sine shape - I didn’t try it with it included but the sine is definitely a good shape without so I’ll stick without it.
General tips:
I built them in the left to right order they’re shown on the LA67 photos - 158, 110, 180, 140, 123. It was pretty easy to test this way.
Calibration-wise there’s not much to do - the trimmers on the 158 adjust the sine shape and upper and lower frequency limits; use the 110 trimmers to minimise clicking with a raw trigger in; the 140 trimmers set the upper and lower period (I haven’t really touched these)
For the wiring, I soldered pins to the PCB and used a bunch of F-F Dupont jumper wires, cut in half, so if I ever need to take the board off I can simply pull these off and don’t need to desolder anything. For the multiple outputs I mostly just used old resistor legs to bridge them.
Integrating with Eurorack clock is easy - both the 180 and the 123 respond to triggers as low as 5V (e.g. from Pam’s). I don’t use a format jumbler, just a 3.5mm to two bananas cable, with the ground banana connected to the spare ground I fitted near the power switch. I don’t think I’ll ever bother trying to send CV from Eurorack but this way I can at least clock it to the rest of my system if I want to, and maybe even play around with some more complex rhythm patterns.
Anyway, hope that’s handy for someone - I’ll share a bunch of patches on YouTube soon!"

J3PO OBERHEIM OB-X8 Presets: Future Vintage OFFICIAL SOUNDS DEMO
video upload by J3PO
"In this video, Julian demos the 64 presets included in the "J3PO OB-X8 Presets: Future Vintage" for the Oberheim OB-X8.
You can buy these patches for your OB-X8 from https://www.julianpollack.com/shop/j3...
This demo was recorded dry straight to Pro Tools, with no external FX, save for some light compression and leveling for the purposing of uploading to YouTube. What you hear is what you get! Of course, users are encouraged to add their own FX, such as chorus, reverb, delay etc. to the sounds. Please see my upcoming video '20 minutes of beautiful OB-X8 & Strymon soundscapes' to hear some of these sounds in context.
There are 64 patches in this preset library and they will load to patches 'OB-X: Groups 8-16' on the OB-X8. The introductory sale price is $39 (normally $45).
The library covers a lot of sonic ground, ranging from ultra vintage Oberheim sounds to tones that fit right into contemporary production. The Oberheim palette is the sound that originally got me into synthesizers (the OB-Xa) and it’s such a joy to have a re-issue of one of the world’s most beloved synthesizers. I hope you enjoy these sounds as much as I enjoyed creating them!
I also have patches available for the Prophet 6, Prophet 5/10, Prophet Rev 2, OB-6, Spectrasonic's Omnisphere, Arturia OP-Xa, Softube's Model 72 & 84, XLN's Addictive Keys Mark One and a free bank of 50 sounds for the free VST synth 'OB-Xd' — all available on my website. If you're a Nord Stage 3 or Wave 2 user, download my bank from the Nord Keyboards website."

The Power Of CS1x - Ep1 - Airwolf, The Terminator, Don't You Want Me, Knight Rider and Jump
video upload by KOSmusic
"For many years my wife and I have wanted to create something dedicated exclusively to the Yamaha CS1x synthesizer. Finally, after so much work, we are very happy to present you this mini series in which the sounds of the CS1x will be the protagonists.
Each episode will consist of 5 famous music presets that I created and performed on the CS1x.
The visual style and structure of these videos is inspired by early 90s learning video tapes.
The initial logo and the music, is a tribute to one of the most important distributors of VHS in those years in the United States, the 'Simitar Entertainment'.
To make these videos useful even for those who just want to learn how to play some pieces of this music from the past with their own keyboard/synth, I filmed the synthesizer from above in order to better understand the keys I press.
In this episode there is a brief description of the CS1x and a demonstration of 5 presets:
• Airwolf Theme - by Sylvester Levay - (Lead)
• The Terminator - Main Title - by Brad Fiedel - (Lead)
• Don't You Want Me - by The Human League - (Brass Chords)
• Knight Rider Theme - by Stu Phillips and Glen A. Larson - (Lead)
• Jump - by Van Halen - (Lead)
For the first time the videos where I play are live (improvised without a metronome). The sound you hear is pure CS1x, with no external effects.
All the presets you heard in this episode are available in SysEx format on my website: https://kosmusicovers.altervista.org/...
Original music:
• Theme - 'Synth From Space' by KOSmusic
• End Credits - 'Automatik' by KOSmusic
A special thanks to my dear friend @Julian Croot, for helping me with the English translation. If you don't already know him, check out his channel filled with amazing recreations of past classics:

We hope that CS1x owners and music fans will like this new idea :)"

J3PO UDO Super 6 Presets -- Official Sounds Demo
video upload by J3PO
"In this video, Julian "J3PO" Pollack demos the 40 presets included in the "J3PO Super 6 Presets" library. 40 patches for the UDO Super 6. The price is $29 and you can purchase these presets from www.j3po.net
For the recording of this video, the UDO Super 6 was connected directly to a UA Apollo, recorded straight to Pro Tools. All FX (chorus, delay) you hear are coming from within the synth itself. Some compression and general leveling was applied for the purpose of uploading to YouTube.
The Super 6 is a 12-voice polyphonic, binaural analog-hybrid synthesizer. A harmonious marriage of state of the art FPGA digital hardware oscillators and voltage controlled analog technology. It is flexible, immediate, powerful and refined with a gorgeous analog tone. Rich and evolving textures are easily teased from the unique super-wavetable core and can be shaped and manipulated with the binaural analog signal path and flexible modulation. Robust, compact and inviting to pick up and play with smooth, solid and responsive controls throughout, it cries out to be played."
