Modular Percussion: Rings, Elements and Stolperbeats

video upload by Making Sound Machines

"Super excited to be part of Dutch Modular Fest @dutchmodularfest4609 today - a super nice one day modular meet in Utrecht NL with workshops, lots of great synth makers and concerts. We will be showing our #Stolperbeats drum trigger sequencer and a handful of rare unreleased prototypes.

If you've been eyeing one of our Eurorack DIY kits and you want to build it together with us, today is the perfect opportunity! Hang out with us and build a Farbfolder, Farbshaper, Farbhighpass or TausenddB and Multiplikand with us.

Our friends Stijn and Priscilla from TiNRS @thisisnotrocketscience3942 will be showing their awesome new collaborations with Paul Error Instruments@paultasbeeb: Brinta, a lovely granular module for live recording and processing audio, and White Rabbit, a fantastic reverb and delay ranging from etheral to glitchy.

Lauri @vaski will show off his beautiful new 2HP Lights Stereo Visualizer audio visualisation module and a handful of other incredibly clever utilities like the ECS-4 Triggered Switch and his AM-3/3 Triple Attenuverter Matrix.

We've been playing with prototypes of these modules for a while and it's super exciting to see them being released now!

Today's video is a little jam that happened when packing for Dutch Modular Fest. Stolperbeats is seen here sequencing Mutable Instruments awesome physical modelling synths #Elements as well as #Rings through their Streams dual dynamics gate with percussion from our own secret modular drum prototype.

The reverb in this sketch is @Befacosynth Lich, a great programmable multi-function module based on the @RebelTechnologies OWL platform. If you are into PureData, Max or Faust, you should give this one a whirl!

Dutch Modular Fest 2023 Set for This Saturday 2nd of September

via ThreeTom Modular

"This Saturday, 2nd of September, it’s time for Dutch Modular Fest 2023.

Come check out my new module 'Doppio' and be the first to actually own one. I’ll have a limited number of modules for sale during the market (before the online launch). I will also have a small number of assembled MS-22 modules for sale, and plenty of full DIY kits. While you’re at my booth, also check out my Mixing Flask prototype. Mixing Flask is my personal take on an exciting utility mixer, with soft clipping and +6dB of gain on each input (and lots of purdy lights!🤩)

I’m really looking forward to meeting you all (again)! 😘"

Doepfer A178 Theremin Voltage Source - feat. J Daniel Cramer

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"On September 3rd, 2022, Dutch Modular Fest hit the former Pieter Baan Center in Utrecht. I got some new gear (more coming soon) but I've been blown away by a performance from J. Daniel Cramer (all the way from Canada). He used four (4!) Doepfer A178's to create a polyphonic Krell on a 'tiny' TipTop Mantis case.
(https://www.youtube.com/c/jdanielcramer). I recorded a few snippets of his performance on video so you can be part of it too - and ordered two A178's the days after. So all credits for this idea go to mr. Cramer, Todd Barton and Dieter Doepfer.

I've been wondering if I could translate this concept to my favorite fields of grain: granular synthesis. I took a leap of faith and ordered a second Arbhar. I patched up the two Harvesters with the A178's, Lubadh, QPAS and Mimeophon. So it's still a relatively low module count (I guess 104 HP would do it) but the level of expression is amazing. I used a vocal snippet from my dear friend Julia M. (former boss of 007) who performs as 'Lucid Yin' all over the EU. (https://www.instagram.com/lucid_yin)."

Making Sound Machines Coming to Dutch Modular Fest

Dreamy Shuffle, Lush Pads: Stolperbeats and Digitone
video upload by Making Sound Machines

"We're off to Berlin - excited to be hosting a workshop at Schneidersladen, tonight at 7:30 pm.

We will be playing a short modular live set, spill the beans on our setup and share our deepest and darkest secrets about deliciously bad timing in #Eurorack. You're invited to swing by, and we look forward to hanging out and chatting afterwards. You will have to sign up via mail - info@schneidersladen.de

We recorded this dreamy little sketch during the search for our live set - a very simple setup using the Elektron Digitone as a sound module for its lush synth pads and slick drum tones, sequenced and shuffled by our #Stolperbeats drum trigger sequencer via MIDI notes. The module in turn receives MIDI from the super portable OMX27 keyboard by Denki Oto (with backlit linear Cherry keys - love it!)

Stolperbeats, roughly translating to 'beats tripping over themselves', is our drum trigger sequencer designed to create shuffled beats influenced by the gritty push-and-pull grooves from the golden age of Hiphop. We've always been fascinated by taking our beats offgrid to give them more fluidity and life. This module allows you to easily dial in and seamlessly switch between all the shuffle, feeling and groove we would, in the past, painstakingly nudge together in a DAW.

Stolperbeats is used here in its 'MIDI Rec' mode, originally envisioned as a quick way to map pitch, channel and velocity from drum machines onto the modules instrument channels by matching the selected instrument to the incoming MIDI data. Turns out this is really fun to use as a transpose with an external keyboard to provide shuffled melodies to the Elektron #Digitone.

If you are in the Netherlands, come see us at Dutch Modular Fest 2022 in Utrecht on Saturday Sept 3rd - we'll have a booth there next to the lovely This is Not Rocket Science (TiNRS) and Vaski, who will both show amazing new stuff."

Dutch Modular Fest 2018

Published on Oct 5, 2018 Gearslutz

Playlist:

1. Befaco Percall Eurorack Module @ Dutch Modular Fest 2018
Manu Retamero from BEFACO was kind enough to show us their brandnew Percall module during the Dutch Modular Fest 2018 in The Hague. Percall is a four channel envelope shaper, with a few neat tricks such as a triggered accent and "choke" settings that work like an open hi-hat cut by a closed hi-hat on various drum machines. Users can make their own percussive sounds with this module, using various soundsources.
2. Tubbutec Expander & Sumtiple @ DMF 2018
Tobi from the one-man company Tubbutec, showed some new features of the µTune Expander, another demo of the correcting tuning function on the µTune, and their Sumtiple module.
3. Joranalogue Contour 1 Transmit 2 Eurorack @ DMF 2018
Joran showed us the new Contour 1 and Transmit 2 modules, at the Dutch Modular Fest in The Hague, Netherlands.
4. Dovemans Ants - 0 sugar - SHFT - Temple eurorack @ DMF 2018
Johan Cornelissen from "Dovemans"; a new eurorack module manufacturer, is a just about to release his first 4 modules. All four have an experimental twist, and a few unusual functions. Gearslutz recorded this at the Dutch Modular Fest 2018 in The Hague.
5. TINRS RectangularThing Ardabil prototype Eurorack @ DMF 2018
Stijn from TINRS (This IS Not Rocket Science) took a new synth voice for eurorack, a complete semi-modular in one, and a prototype of a module that "ties the room together".
Also we asked how the Synton project was coming along, so you can hear that too in this video.
6. Moseley Instruments Cosmopolitan @ DMF 2018
We were positively surprized by the sound of the Cosmopolitan Oscillator from Moseley Instruments.
7. Soulsby synthesizers @ Dutch Modular Fest 2018
Paul from the synthsizer company Soulsby showed us the new development in the ATMultitron and the ATMegatron mkII synthesizers at the Dutch Modular Fest 2018 in The Hague.
8. VPME Euclidian Circles V2, QD quad drum voice Eurorack modules @ DMF 2018
Vladimir showed us the second version of the Euclidian Circles, the QD quad drum voice, ZeroScope, T43 precision adder with switches at the Dutch Modular Fest 2018 in The Hague.
9. ZLOB Modular Entropy Eurorack Module @ DMF 2018
Kevin from ZLOB Modular showed us the new Entropy eurorack module at the Dutch Modular Fest 2018 in The Hague. Entropy is a Sample & Hold, Track & Hold and noise source.
10. Birdkids Raven @ DMF 2018
Michael of Birdkids proudly presented the prototype of the upcoming Kickstarter funded high-end Raven semi-modular at the Dutch Modular Fest 2018 in The Hague.
We certainly have no complaints about the sound! What a beauty!
