Classic birds: Roland CR78 and Korg Mini Pops 7 MIDI flyover
video upload by ohm_studi_ohm
"Since these days I have on hand 2 classic - shall I write cult ? - drum machines that I retrofitted with MIDI interface it was very tempting to compare them in real time, playing the same thing. So I did !
The Korg MiniPops features the Tubbutec Unipulse interface (https://tubbutec.de/unipulse/) and the Roland CR-78 was upgraded with Tauntek MCU replacement (http://tauntek.com/CR78.htm). Bless these guys for everything they give to the synth community.
In this video I don't go deep into the MIDI functionality, i simply wanted to compare the raw sound of these 2 units. It would not be fair to compare them features wise. 10 years or more separate them and in many aspects the technology gap seems abysmal.
BUT they are more alike one can think at first.
What makes them very close is the nature, number and choice of drum sounds. The MP7 has 15 of them and the CR78 14. They have those sounds in common: Bass, Snare, Rimshot, High-Hat, Cymbal, Cowbell, Conga, Large Bongo, Small Bongo, Claves, Guiro, Tambourin.
The MP7 adds a second Snare sound (longer decay) whereas the CR78 has a second Tambourine sound (longer decay). The "maracas" on th CR78 can be interpreted as Cymbal 2 on the MP7.
Actually soundwise the big difference is the "Quijada" sound that's on the MP7 and is nowhere else to be found. Quite a jaw dropping sound it is !
So anyway i MIDI mapped the MP7s sounds to their respective CR78 ones as best possible so I now have 2 analog expanders rack :-)"

Stereo synth for 40 bucks: a wired heart for scary drones
video upload by Pete Midi
"Be warned: the Wired Heart is not for everyone. It’s not a musical instrument that lets you play Xmas songs. It’s rather a special kind of drone synth that you may use for the score of your next horror movie or just as a rich stereo source for your next sampling session. But if you think this could also be a visually appealing gift, be careful and watch this video first! Otherwise, one day you might say or sing “Last Christmas I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away …”

Tubbutec TRS-Bridge - 4x4 TRS MIDI router and merger
video upload by Tubbutec
"TRS Bridge is a midi router, merger and splitter with four TRS-style inputs and four TRS outputs.
MIDI messages received at the inputs can be forwarded to one or multiple MIDI outputs.
Similarly each of the outputs can receive MIDI messages from one or multiple inputs.
TRS Bridge can set these routes in a simple modes for all types of MIDI messages, but it is also possible to route different kinds of messages differently."
Routes and merges midi data, four midi inputs and outputs
4x TRS MIDI inputs, 4x TRS MIDI outputs
Can route, split and merge MIDI streams
Independent MIDI flow settings for notes/CC (red), clock (blue) and sysex (yellow)
Easy to use user interface, quickly change routes, color coded routes and events.
MIDI event monitor with color coding for various message types
Save and recall up to 8 routing settings
Automatically accepts both TRS A and TRS B at the inputs
Outputs individually selectable between TRS A and TRS B
Convert between TRS A and TRS B
Save detach: Will send note off messages if a connection is detached
Auto-restarter: Will send re-sync new clock connections automatically
Sysex Buffer: Buffers Sysex messages if necessary in order to merge them
Adjustable LED brightness
Full galvanic separation of inputs – no ground loops.
Merging and routing
Each of the MIDI inputs can be connected to one or more of the MIDI outputs. Similarly each of the MIDI outputs can receive MIDI data from one or multiple inputs.
TRS Bridge can set these routes in a simple modes for all types of MIDI messages, but it is also possible to route different kinds of messages differently:
NOTE AND CONTROLLER DATA
These are all the midi messages that can be merged without any issues. If two devices send midi at the same time, data will be interleaved and sent to the receiving device.
CLOCK DATA
Clock data can not be merged, only one midi clock stream can be used at a time. When changing the routing, TRS Bridge makes sure that each output only receives clock from a single input.
SYSEX DATA
Sysex data is even trickier to handle than clock data, because sysex messages can have an arbitrary length. if multiple sysex streams are received simultaneously, USB bridge A buffers the data and will forward it to the receiver as soon as possible. This way sysex messages are merged as well.

Superbooth 2023: Tubbutec - MC2oh2 An Upgraded 202
video upload by sonicstate
"At Superbooth 2023, we spoke to Tobias from Tubbutec about the company's latest offerings. First up is the MC2oh2 mod, which is now available for €250. It's an upgrade for the original MC202, and brings a range of new features, including a 32-pattern sequencer with chaining capabilities, arpeggiator with Euclidean mode, and extra modulations such as LFOs and envelopes. The mod also adds noise with various noise colors. The MC202 mod will be available as a kit for the RE202 project by DinSync, which is a replica of the original MC202. Tobias also presented a microtune module, which is a MIDI 2CV/CV2MIDI and quantizer with clock generator. It's a versatile module that can load scales from an SD card, work microtonally, and tune VCOs. It's available for €340 for the base unit and €171 and €84 for expanders.
Tobias also showcased the 6mod6, a TR606 module with original circuitry but with extra flexibility and functionality. The 6equencer sequencer is built to compliment the 6mod6 but can send TR sequencing wherever you choose. It has eight channels for triggering or gating with a range of functions such as song mode, probability, swing, and more. Tubbutec also offers vintage synthesizer upgrades, including a universal interface for string machines and organs that can be used to interface with MIDI and an interface for Yamaha SK20, SK30, and SK50D synthesizers that adds MIDI input, an additional LFO, and other useful features. The soldering level required for the MC202 mod is minimal, but Tubbutec provides a list of synth techs around the world who can perform the installation for anyone with a fear of soldering."

The sound however stays the same and many additional features are added.
Also compatible with the ‘DIN-SYNC RE-202’ project
Features
Optimized for live performance, turns your 202 into a ‘groove box’.
Three completely independent synthesizer control channels:
The internal synth, the 2nd CV/gate output and a 3rd MIDI out or DRUM channel. Each channel has its own clock divider and MIDI input and output.
Can be clocked via MIDI, DIN-sync or trigger using the TAPE-input
Versatile sequencer with 32 patterns, chainable in song mode, edit patterns and songs while playing, shortcuts for quick live arrangement. Seven sequencer play directions.
Sequence editor with copy, paste, insert and delete options, can modify note pitch, length and note-modifiers on the fly
Arpeggiator with multiple octaves, seven direction modes including ‘order of key press’. Can inherit the ‘chemistry’ of existing sequences, optional euclidian mode and live shortcuts.
Additional modulations: Accent, Filter and PW envelopes
Additional noise sound with envelope.
8-bit LOFI drum sample output with various sound modifiers, sample packs can be uploaded via MIDI
Save and recall up to 8 sets containing sequencer and modulation parameters. No batteries needed
