Polyend Synth - NEW v1.3 UPDATE - New DWA Synth Engine!

video upload by Oscillator Sink

"The Polyend Synth just got a nice firmware update (v1.3) which incorporates a bunch of MIDI refinements, some new grid modes which open up new performance options and most importantly the new DWA engine which is a fun, dual sample based engine with a comb filter that can be approached in loads of interesting ways.

Transparency Notice: Polyend sent me Synth when it was first released for free in order for me to make a release video. I have not been otherwise paid for any follow-up content made about Synth, although I was given early access to beta versions of the firmware.

Chapters:
00:00 Intro
01:33 Layered Grids for Layered Sounds
04:34 DWA Engine - Intro
05:51 DWA Engine - Setting Expectations
08:07 DWA Engine - Controls
12:16 DWA Engine - Play Modes and Looping
16:20 DWA Engine - Crossfade
17:34 DWA Engine - Single Cycle Synthesis
20:39 DWA Engine - Comb Filter
23:58 Breaking down the lovely piano patch
28:06 DWA Engine - Old Skool Time Stretching
31:59 DWA Engine - Getting crazy with the comb filter
34:20 DWA Engine - Velocity and Aftertouch
37:05 Outro"

Polyend Synth

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Had the pleasure of trying the new Polyend Synth firmware 1.3 ahead of release. The new DWA engine opens up a world of textures — fragile loops, glitchy fragments, resonant feedbacks, all waiting to be shaped. It’s a reminder of how beautifully unpredictable sound can be."

"Life is not like water. Things in life don't necessarily flow over the shortest possible route. (H. Murakami, 1Q84)

This live session was recorded using the Chompi and the Strymon BigSky MX. Ideal for deep focus, meditation, and late-night inspiration."

Teenage Engineering OP-XY

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"This person, this self, this me, finally, was made somewhere else. Everything had come from somewhere else, and it would all go somewhere else. I was nothing but a pathway for the person known as me.
(Haruki Murakami, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle)"

Buchla & Titptop Audio 259t

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Strane forme
A little excerpt from a long session done this morning with the 259t. I absolutely love the amount of little variations you can get from this iconic module. The fact that it has ART on board makes it easier for me to manage some little things that are part of my language. I love it, period."

Chompi and Teenage Engineering TX-6

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"... I come here every day, say hello to the butterflies, and talk about things with them. When the time comes, though, they just quietly go off and disappear. I'm sure it means they've died, but I can never find their bodies. They don't leave any trace behind. It's like they've been absorbed by the air. They're dainty little creatures that hardly exist at all: they come out of nowhere, search quietly for a few, limited things, and disappear into nothingness again, perhaps to some other world.
(Haruki Murakami, 1Q84)"

Beetlecrab Audio Tempera, Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field and TX-6

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"I guess I felt attached to my weakness. My pain and suffering too. Summer light, the smell of a breeze, the sound of cicadas - if I like these things, why should I apologize?
(Haruki Murakami, A Wild Sheep Chase)"

Beetlecrab Audio Tempera and Strymon BigSky Mx

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Dense grey skies, like today, envelop my world in a soft and mysterious embrace. In these moments, things around me seem to breathe more slowly, inviting reflection and calm.
It’s then that thoughts with a distant memory of serenity emerge."

Beetlecrab Audio Tempera

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Not just beautiful, though — the stars are like the trees in the forest, alive and breathing. And they’re watching me. What I’ve up till now, what I’m going to do — they know it all. Nothing gets past their watchful eyes. As I sit there under the shining night sky, again a violent fear takes hold of me. My heart’s pounding a mile a minute, and I can barely breathe. All these millions of stars looking down on me, and I’ve never given them more than a passing thought before. Not just the stars — how many other things haven’t I noticed in the world, things I know nothing about? (Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore)

P.s.
Did you know that with Tempera you could play the original sample while processing it with different emitters? I didn't, and it was a wonderful surprise to discover this amazing feature."

Torso Electronics S4 and Lorre-Mille Spectral Bloom

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"All you have to do is wait,” I explained. “Sit tight and wait for the right moment. Not try to change anything by force, just watch the drift of things. Make an effort to cast a fair eye on everything. If you do that, you just naturally know what to do. But everyone’s always too busy. They’re too talented, their schedules are too full. They’re too interested in themselves to think about what’s fair.
(Haruki Murakami, Dance, Dance, Dance)"

Onde Magnétique, Monome Norns and Teenage Engineering TX-6

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Is not that the meaning cannot be explained. But there are certain meanings that are lost forever the moment they are explained in words
(Haruki Murakami, 1Q84)

Take this track as an ‘After-Dune-Part-2’ side effect."

TipTop Audio ART Modules

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Last series of tests before the imminent commercial release of the Tiptop Audio ART modules.
In this session, of which I recorded a small jam, I configured the system so as to have a good comparison on polyphony tracking.

One of the two ATX1 analog oscillators (bass line) is managed via CV through the ART V/Oct Quantizer, the other analog oscillator and the digital one (Vortex) are instead managed via Midi, all via the Korg Sq-64.
The Roland S-1 is routed in the Morphagene, the Just Friends uses the Mutable Instruments Ripples Resonance to ping it on the melody line entrusted to the digital oscillator and the Pladask Elektrisk Dradd adds some glitchy vibes via its Tape function. TX-6 for delay."

Playdate and Teenage Engineering TX-6

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"It's strange, isn't it?' the woman said in a pensive voice. 'Everything is blowing up around us, but there are still those who care about a broken lock, and others who are dutiful enough to try to fix it... But maybe that's the way it should be. Maybe working on the little things as dutifully and honestly as we can is how we stay sane when the world is falling apart.
(Haruki Murakami, Men without Women)

What I particularly love about these little instruments that I use to make music and that I show here is the feeling of being able to contain my world in the palm of my hand. And I consider this a superpower.

About this setup:
Playdate App Granular plays 5 different granular versions of a sample recorded with my piano through its on board mic, TX-6 plays sine waves (I muted/unmuted them live) and add its reverb magic."

Modern Sound Pluto, Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus 2 and Palmelund Controller

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Wrapped in the deep fragrance of the forest, I listen to the flapping of the birds' wings, to the stirring of the ferns. I'm freed from gravity and float up--just a little--from the ground and drift in the air. Of course I can't stay there forever. It's just a momentary sensation--open my eyes and it's gone. Still, it's an overwhelming experience. Being able to float in the air.
(Haruki Murakami, Kafka On The Shore)

About the setup:
Pluto into Cocoquantus 2 that acts as a delay (continuous recording). Palmelund Contoller set to change the delay rate and source stereo field."

Elektron Octatrack, Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field, Chase Bliss Reverse Mode C

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Lay down your mind and peace will come. A peace deeper than anything you have known.
(Haruki Murakami, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World)

About Octatrack setting:

Track 3: Piano sample recorded on the Octatrack
Track 2: glitch drums
Track 6: OP-1 tape live through a THRU machine
Track 1: Same piano sample distributed on a slicing grid to be used as a melody through manual use of the fader (scene change).
Fast movements of the fader create further glitches in the feedback of the Reverse Mode C which reacts like a sort of arpeggiator."
