EDINBURGH, UK: The Crow Hill Company is proud to announce availability of CHILDREN’S CHOIR — crafting terrifying sounds from a school-age troupe of boys singing with just the right amount of ‘beautiful menace’ and an ability to be creative while working with the Edinburgh-based enterprise in support of delivering an instrument based around an expertly curated sample-set with a broad range of timbral possibilities designed by media composers with other media composers in mind — as of September 21…

Asked about the task of crafting CHILDREN’S CHOIR, The Crow Hill Company co-founder and media composer Christian Henson has his tongue not entirely out of his creative cheek in response, resurrecting the famous showbiz warning usually credited to American comedian W.C. Fields, effectively, by way of opening: “Never work with animals and children! So what’s this going to be like? Getting kids to be slightly demonic, evil, scary… they love it! And they totally seem to get making it so pretty that it’s scary. So we thought we’d try and nurture that spirit in a children’s choir library designed particularly for media composers — people who write for film, TV, and computer games. Why are these guys going to be wanting to use a children’s choir? Maybe there’s something set in a boarding school, maybe there’s something slightly choral and religious, but, more times than not, something unsettling is needed, and that’s where we’ve gone with this one. There are limits to how long children should be asked to perform. So, we thought we’d use the time thoughtfully, curating a selection of singing styles that capture this spirit. As opposed to giving you yet another library with ‘AAs’, ‘EEs’, ‘Ahs’, ‘Ohs’, and ‘MMs’, etcetera, AHOH, OHEH [and many more singing styles are available using the EXPRESSION wheel]. There’s some lovely WAVERING stuff where the pitch centres change. They sound great and scary when you cluster up, but on their own — or just a couple of notes — they have all sorts of childlike menace. There’s terrifying RISES and FALLS. And we’ve got a whole bunch of SHORT [singing styles].

🎛️ The presets contain 8 macros, responsible for movement, tone, drive, length, resonance, and rhythm. The Modwheel brightens the tone and can add tremolo. Velocity adds dynamics.

"OK, PoliMaths as an independent module, away from it's secred VCO comfort zone without a dual QXG. Is it worth diving into this deep, amazing, incredibly musical, versatile and innovative new concept? It's hard to say 'no' now, isn't it? On paper, it's a multed simple A/D envelope with a rise and fall, which can cycle. But it also features an 'oscillations' section, which is like an AD that always loops, and the AD can be shaped to the basic waveforms. So it's an LFO at low rates, and a VCO at high rates with V/OCT support that can decently track an octave or four. So it's not a precision VCO, it's an experimental sound maker. On it's own, polyphony is more like overlapping sounds, each sharing the same rate, which comes down to the same note. When spread is engaged, you'd skew these rates apart so you can morph between harmonic textures and atonal clusters. So it's polyphony, but confined to the 1 source, 8 copies design that marks the New Universal Synthesis System (NUSS).

On the negative side, it's not Maths, there's no voltage math, and it could be seen as a fancy mult for a single AD envelope or loop, with proper audio rate support and clever divisions and distributions.

But when you give it time, a wonderful module appears from behind the dense panel controls and the mysterious glyphs. On the positive side (where you can always find me), PoliMaths is a must have module. But I am also an extremely biased MakeNoise fan. I'd say this is not a typical beginner module, but if you want to make your modular stand out from the conventional east and west, this is definitely a module to consider."

🖲 The Stylophone CPM DS-2 is an analog synthesizer highly sensitive to both settings and performance. I’ve done my best to document all parameters precisely; however, expect slight variations, as this is a truly alive, analog instrument. This is especially true for pitch, tuning, and FM settings—and in some cases, on the delay. The PITCH/RATE and LFO DEPTH knobs are extremely responsive— even a slight movement can shift the pitch significantly.
Many presets don’t adhere to a strict tonal center, so feel free to experiment with frequency settings. If you need to hit specific notes, I recommend using a tuner when adjusting pitch and FM."

💡 Technical Information. How to import/upload presets.
The presets are compatible with hardware Blofeld versions: desktop and keyboard; and with the official Blofeld VST Plugin.
Make sure you are using the latest hardware firmware and vst-plugin versions.

No Samples and third-party wavetables are required. The soundset is made with the factory content only.
The soundset comes in multiple formats:
Bank in .syx format (Bank G)
Bank in .mid format (Bank G)
Bank in .blo format for Auraplugins Blofeld Editor/Librarian users
Bank in .bpz format for the official Blofeld VST plugin users
Separate presets in .syx format
Separate presets in .mid format

The bank contains presets in slots 01–64. Slots 65–128 are Init Presets. SysEx transfer will overwrite the entire Bank G. Make a backup before loading.
Set Device ID to 0 (zero).
To load the presets onto the synthesizer, use a SysEx file utility: SysEx Librarian by Snoize (for Mac) or MIDI-OX/Bome Send SX (for Windows).
Connect the Blofeld to your computer via USB and select it as the MIDI device in the application settings.
Load the .syx or .mid bank file into the application, select it, and click Send/Play.
The bank will be transferred to the synthesizer within a minute."

🎚 Each preset is carefully programmed, with dozens of modulations, velocity settings, mod wheel mappings, and macros, providing a wide range of expressive and creative possibilities.

🎛 The macros are a significant part of the soundset. They can change tone, stereo width, modulation depth and rate, noise level, distortion, detuning, space/echo/reverb, effects mix, envelope parameters, and others.
You may control them via MIDI controller, use them for automation, or map the macros to your DAW modulators like LFO, Shaper, and others.

Installation:
Open the plugin. Push Menu -> Show User Presets. You will see a folder with the plugin banks of presets. Put the folder "Anton Anru - Dystopian Soundscapes" here.
Open the plugin again. Push Menu -> Rescan Presets Folders. You will see the new soundset in the plugin, both in the Steam Tab (Local) and in the upper presets bar.
In case you don't see the new soundset, relaunch the plugin.

"With the new Digitakt II, Octatrack, Syntakt, Analogue Heat+FX and a small modular synth rack for extra spice, we've assembled a powerful Elektron performance rig. This configuration demonstrates the Digitakt II and Octatrack's sampling capabilities and how well they work together. With 12 tracks of digital and analogue machinery, the Syntakt is just as capable of producing rocking beats and synth work. Not to be overlooked is the Analogue Heat + FX, the sonic processing palette that glues everything together. This is a live, improvisational jam that was captured in one take without any additional post-production or processing.

Set-up details:
Octatrack: master clock, mixer, resampling and providing some performance effects for the Syntakt and modular synth.
Digitak II: main drums and rhythmic loops.
Syntakt: additional percussion and minimal synth sounds.
Modular Synth: percussive bleeps and atonal sounds from voices LIP and SY0.5.
Analog Heat +FX: end of chain audio processing. Also some filtering and reverb effects.

Audio Routing:
Modular synth into external input on Syntakt
Digitakt II and Syntakt running into the Octatrack.
Octatrack output (stereo) into Analog Heat +FX.

MIDI Routing and Sequencing:
Octatrack is the master clock, sending MIDI clock to all other boxes. Internal sequencers on each box are in use, no external sequencing."
