NAMM: Novation Nocturn

"eaturing the latest Automap Universal 2.0 software, exclusive to Novation controllers, Nocturn provides automatic, instant and intelligent control of all automatable plug-ins within every major sequencer, including Pro Tools.

Nocturn features eight touch-sensitive rotary encoders, each equipped with a bright eleven-LED ring (ideal for laptop DJ’ing in a dark club environment). These are accompanied by eight user-assignable illuminated buttons and a smooth, professional 45mm cross-fader. The finishing touch is Novation’s unique ‘speed dial’; a touch-sensitive rotary encoder that instantly takes control of whatever your mouse is focused on!

Featuring a revolutionary new 'heads-up transparent control GUI', Automap Universal 2.0 places a transparent control map across your computer screen, to be recalled or hidden at will. Little or no user setup is required and plug-in control can be exactly the way you want it, no matter what music software you use. Just boot up the plug-in and you’ll see at a glance how the parameters are automatically assigned to each of Nocturn’s controls. An instant click and control ‘learn’ function is also available for quick re-assigning of controls, or for creating your own controller map in seconds. Multiple page options mean that you can assign a potentially infinite number of parameters for each plug-in."

You can find more info on Novation's Nocturn Page.

Man, I remember the Kid Nepro ads in the back of Keyboard Magazine from ages ago - according to their site, they started in 1984. It's a trip seeing them on YouTube now. Hopefully more synth demos will come including some older gear they did soundsets for.

NAMM 2008 - Big City Music - Analogue Systems modular noise

YouTube via bigcitymusic
"Here are some noises being generated from a monster Analogue Systems system 8500 with the new rs430 Distortion module. You can also see the new rs600 Performance Wheels modules which are more than just beautiful."

Update via REwire in the comments:
"Oh wait, those are my arms!

In short, the RS-430 Distortion Module has a distortion level that's cv'able as well as the mix ratio. The variations in the video are various CV sources like LFO, S&H and OSC's to the CV inputs. That makes all kinds of distortion sequencing possible, something you can't do with outboard pedals. Also, nothing else in Euro does this; previous distortions like Doepfer's are really Wave Multipliers you have to feed a Sine or Triangle. This takes any waveform and distorts cleanly. I've tried running my modular through guitar distortions and single cycle waveforms just turn to squares and disappear.

I think this video gives you an idea what your tone from a single OSC sounds like and what CV does to it. Make music or noise of that."

"Here is the new RozzBox 5-voice synthesizer from Kilian Leonhardt at LL Electronics in Germany. It is truly unique with its tube driven filter (which sounds amazing) and its extremely compact size. These will be available by around mid-April at Big City Music."
