VINTAGE MTI Auto Orchestra Synthesizer w/ bass pedals

via this auction
"This is a vintage machine that is much more than a rhythm machine or electronic drummer. It play chords and has about any style beat. It takes a little practice to use the pedals while playing but you can sound like a band all by yourself. It is an American built machine which was built in Garden City Park, New York by Music Technology Inc. The Model # is AO-1. Everything comes in the sale; base pedals, volume & pitch control pedal, stand, case and power chord. The control panel display is labeled as such; from top left, bass, decay, synthesized tones and strings. You may select between and 8th and 16th notes and normal or root. To the right with the blue buttons are the string selections and volume and tone nobs. The white buttons are the drum display; bass, conga, bongo, snare, slave, cowbell, high hat, splash symbol and ride symbol. Unit power button is to the right. Third row, the yellow red and green buttons have two levels of specific drum rhythms to choose from; waltz, foxtrot, blues, dramatic ballad, country rock, disco, bossa nova, mambo, jazz waltz, swing, shuffle, dixieland, fast country, rock, cha cha and rumba. The fourth and final row has tempo dial at left corner, rythym selector; drums, bass, chords and strings, break, start and stop."

555 PLL

555 PLL from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"Running a 555 oscillator through a pair of Frostwave pedals (Resonator and Blue Ringer), which are being controlled by the modular.

The Low Pass Frequency on the Resonator is being controlled by the Triangle output of the ELF LFO.

The frequency on the Blue Ringer is set low enough to act as an LFO of sorts. It's receiving CV from the /2 output of a Doepfer A-160.

The output from the ring modulator is sent to the A-119 for amplification. The first of the A-119's outputs is sent to Channel 1 on the mixer. The second A-119 output is sent to the Signal Input on a A-196 PLL, and from there to Channel 3 on the mixer.

The bass drone is a Moog Rogue, multed to the two halves of an A-132-3. The Square output from the ELF LFO is triggering the first channel on the A-143-1, which is opening the first VCA. The CP3 output on the A-143-1 is gating the A-140, which is opening the second VCA.

Russ' Synth stuff

Russ's Synth stuff
Pictured: "Handmade SN94281-based synth I made back in 1983. The device won the Grand Champion prize at the York County Science and Engineering fair --- I was 12 years old at the time. Last year at this time, I decided to restore it to working order for its 25th birthday. It is basically a "breakout box" for the Texas Instruments SN94281 Complex Sound Generator chip. All features of the chip are available as front panel knobs or multi-position switches.

The chip is showing signs of its age -- the power audio amplifier no longer works correctly, but the output signal can still be amplified if driving a high impedance load.

For those unfamiliar with the SN94281, a data sheet is available here:
