iPhone Music App Demo

YouTube via paulslocum | July 15, 2010 | 6 likes, 0 dislikes

"This is a rough demo of a new iPhone music app that I plan to release in a few weeks. It's a sort of musical instrument/meditation tool/artwork. Visuals are created by spinning rug and quilt patterns, and the sound is made from loops of Christian music played backwards. The final version will have more advanced sound control and several modes with different samples, spin patterns, and sound options. I will probably also be porting it to Android."

SIR SAMPLETON App for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad

sir Sampleton app for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad

[$3 in the App Store, seach for "sampleton"]

Sir Sampleton is a sampling keyboard, which means it can record sounds through the microphone that you can then play on a keyboard. If you want the sound of bagpipes or bells, then just use Sampleton to sample some bagpipes or bells. Or if you want more unique sounds, you can make samples with your own voice or noisy objects you find around the house.

Sir Sampleton is inspired by sampling toy keyboards of the 80's like the ones produced by Casio and Yamaha. These classic keyboards were great toys, but are now expensive because they are sought after by professional musicians for their warm, low-fi sound and simple operation. Now, it's possible to have similar sound and functionality in an app, plus the features that you wish the old keyboards had, like the ability to save samples.

FEATURES:
◊ Sample through the microphone and then play your samples on the dual keyboards
◊ Save and recall your samples
◊ Add rhythm with the built-in beats and random beat generator
◊ Tweak advanced sound settings such as vibrato, note trail length, and sample time
◊ Put one sample on each keyboard in dual-sample mode"

Haplome + Press Cafe + Reason 5

Haplome + Press Cafe + Reason 5 from Steven Page on Vimeo.

"Nothing fancy here, just wanted to tell the world about how awesome Haplome is. It allows you to run Max Runtime apps designed for a monome WIRELESSLY on your iOS device. unionbridge.org/design/haplome/

In this example I used my old iPhone 3G connected to an ad hoc network set up on my computer. I'm running Max5 Runtime using Press Cafe. I routed the MIDI into Reason 5 and set it up with some of my favorite patches and a simple 8 bar beat and synth line

Let me know you think! Email or post any questions or comments"

Haplome is free

Fluxamasynth

flickr By Sid Volter

"From the Modern Device website:
a robust synthesizer that can be completely controlled by the on-board Arduino-compatible microcontroller. With effects even. The Fluxamasynth is based on Atmel's ATSAM2195 single-chip MIDI sound system, which is part of their Dream Sound Synthesis line of programmable ICs."

More details from the product page:
"Here's the project you've been looking for: a robust synthesizer that can be completely controlled by the on-board Arduino-compatible microcontroller. With effects even. The Fluxamasynth is based on Atmel's ATSAM2195 single-chip MIDI sound system, which is part of their Dream Sound Synthesis line of programmable ICs. It was intended for battery powered keyboards or portable Karaoke machines, but I'm sure you can use and abuse the Fluxamasynth in all sorts of new and interesting ways. Here are a few suggestions:

* Make your own MIDI instrument with unconventional analog sensors
* Create algorithmic compositions
* Use it in a homebrew pinball machine to generate music and sound effects (this was how I first discovered the chip)
* Build an unusual percussion device
* Augment an analog instrument with a Fluxamasynth-based hyperinstrument

The Fluxamasynth has a built-in wavetable with 128 general MIDI sounds and an additional set of 128 variations and dozens of percussion sounds. It can play music in 64-voice polyphony without effects or 38 voices with effects.

Here are some additional features:

* 14 bits of pitch bend range
* Access to fine and coarse tuning in cents
* Access to low level wavetable parameters
* Stereo line level output
* Master volume and per-channel volume control
* 4-band Equalizer
* Chorus, flange, delay effects
* 8 Reverb effects
* Spatial effects

The ATSAM2195 chip that does all the work is hooked up to the serial transmit line of the microcontroller; making music is as easy as sending a set of MIDI-formatted bytes to the serial port. If you need to use the serial port for something else, a jumper allows you to switch to pin 4 and a software serial solution instead of the UART.

You can program the Fluxamasynth with the Arduino IDE and the Modern Device Fluxamasynth library. See the Quick Start guide for a complete example.

This version of the Fluxamasynth comes fully assembled and is standalone, i.e., the microcontroller is right on the board. You'll need a USB BUB or FTDI cable to program it. We will also be offering an assembled Arduino-compatible shield in the near future. Please let us know if there are other features you would like to see! "

-40% on Mobilohm and Hematoh plug-ins!

via The Ohm Side of the Moon

"Tomorrow – Friday December 3rd – we start our Christmas Sale, which will offer two discounted plug-ins (-40% !!!) every Friday of December. Let’s start by warming our hearts with the Mobilohm phaser and the Hematohm frequency shifter: two extremely useful units, either for subtle spices or extreme sound mangling – both present in thousands of home studios around the world but also in some high profile ones. If you don’t know them yet, try the demos and you’ll be convinced. Do it fast, as this discount will last for only 24 hours: this Friday’s whole day. Get inspired by poems, try the demos, use the code!"

BTW, don't forget the Stocking Stuffers label this year. All iPhone and iPad posts should be considered stocking stuffers so not sure if I will give them the label as they might drown out other posts. Also be sure to check out the links on the right of the site, including synth movies, books, cds and of course MATRIXSYNTH swag.

Rudess-Lainhart ProLoop Jam.mov

"Jordan Rudess and Richard Lainhart jam with Trapcode ProLoop on iPhone and iPad."

"ProLoop is a powerful and flexible loop instrument for professional musicians as well as hobbyists. Use it as a live electronic instrument by itself or as an addition to your other gear, or just play around with it and explore the possibilities!

It can play up to 6 loops simultaneously and besides changing the volume each loop can also be pitched/transposed, reversed, muted, panned, ring/frequency/phase-modulated by any other loop, and
synchronized to a masterloop.

Pitch can be smoothly adjusted or quantized to a musical unit such as octaves, semitones or a custom division of an octave. Or put it in sync-mode to automagically fit the length of the choosen masterloop.

The sync offset can be adjusted to have loops sync at other positions than their start, and the sync can be turned off individually to allow the loops to have different lengths to create ever-changing layers of soundtextures.

There is also a Freeze FX that lets you temporarily "freeze" a loop with adjustable grain size and position.

You can control all the loops in real-time, and multi-touch will let you adjust several parameters simultaneously, for example crossfading by changing the volume of two loops at the same time.

ProLoop comes bundled with many loops by professional musicians that you can use and play around with, and demo sessions to get you started, but the real power comes by the fact that you can record your own loops straight into ProLoop or upload your own professionally recorded soundfiles to ProLoop through your web-browser! You can also paste audio from other music apps into ProLoop."
