Bugbrand Modular Mayhem

YouTube Uploaded by otoskope on Mar 29, 2011

"Ain't she beautiful, my new baby? I just recieved this wonderful machine from Tom Bugs - a Bugbrand Modular. It is obviously capable of some serious sonic mess. And I love the colours!

This patch relies mostly on the delay module, modulated and fed by various oscillators, with extra spice added by the button-trigged envelope to the left, and a few dry feeds to give body to the sound (these are soloed after a while).

Enjoy

Bugbrand Modular 2 - Spacious Drone

Uploaded by otoskope on Mar 30, 2011

"Exploring unexpected drone possibilities from a patch originally made for emergent cross-modulation rhythms, which brutally failed when I tried to film it. After some knob-twiddling, this was the result.

From 4:35 there are some nice grooves.

This is my second day with the Bugbrand Modular, and I'm quite sure it will keep me busy for a while...

The sound is recorded straight from the line out of the synth (which is mono).

Bugbrand Modular 3 - Cross-modulation Space War

Uploaded by otoskope on Mar 30, 2011

'A test of how the different oscillators can inter-modulate, in the eminent Bugbrand Modular, which I received yesterday."

Bugbrand Modular 4 - Timpani drummer

Uploaded by otoskope on Mar 30, 2011

"Exploring a way of creating complex rhythms with minimal means, while keeping resources for creating the actual sounds. Various multiplications of envelope and a couple of oscillators create a rhythm that modulates the Buchla-style Low-pass gate. That constitutes the main kettle-drum sound. To spice it up, there is a complementary synth sound. In the video, I explore various knob settings for the patch."

Bugbrand Modular 5 - Omph Omph

Uploaded by otoskope on Mar 30, 2011

"OK, so I made a few experimental videos on the Bugbrand Modular today, but I just couldn't resist trying to do something more, you know, beat-based (although strangely shifting). One hand holds the camera. That leaves one hand to do the beats..."

"Quick improv using Camel Audio's Alchemy (Biolabs Tuned Gong) being controlled by Audio Damage's Tattoo, with an additional Tattoo for beats. Additional sounds created with Reaktor Mirage ensemble by Peter Dines loaded with Luftrum samples courtesy of Freesound.org. The whole mess is being routed into Audio Damage's Automaton (Stutter Step variation.) Thanks for checking out my Tuesday morning improv session! L.72"

"a brief look at a patch i'm working on. a live sampler that lets your mouse over the sampled waveform to select loop points and playback pitch, using buffer~, record~ and groove~ objects, plus a waveform~ and a rslider. i plan to at some point turn this into something similar to the samplers on the old kaoss pads to use with the korg nano pad and maxforlive. if any maxperts out there have any suggestions please comment."

LZX Visionary meets Borg Filter

YouTube Uploaded by lzxindustries on Mar 28, 2011

"In this example, only 3 LZX modules are used. The primary video effect is driven by a Malekko/Wiard Borg filter (although any multimode resonant filter should suffice.)

Fender Chroma Polaris ribbon repair! PERMANENT! Tech run through.

YouTube Uploaded by sounddoctorin on Mar 29, 2011

"Bob Weigel of http://www.sounddoctorin.com shares the discovery of a wonderful process for what appears to be a permanent repair of the ribbon issue with the Chroma Polaris' front panel. Typically ozone etc. causes these to degrade over time and I just did one that was quite brittle on the middle connector..particularly the smaller one. The Dura Tuff product from Eclectic products is used to create a new plastic surface and protect what is left of the old ribbons and if they are still conducting hopefully they will continue to after it dries and they are reconnected! NOTICE I CANNOT GUARANTEE ANYONE'S SUCCESS and I PROBABLY am the only person on the planet to have repaired as many CP's as I have with 100% success so far. This is a risky and tricky process requiring great care. The slightest slip could crack a ribbon so far back that it destroys the front panel! There are no replacements available so be careful!!

Further I suspect that people with cracking buttons could also use the dura tuff to coat them to prevent further degradation. The material will form a plastic layer basically that remains somewhat flexible I believe indefinitely but is very very tough!

We also show the basic chip layouts and so on."
