Using LibreOffice as a Tracker/Sequencer (I suck at Spreadsheets)

A Spreadsheet could be used as a music sequencer. The sound actually isn't produced by LibreOffice but by SuperCollider. Python is used to bridge the applications via CSV/OSC. If you know your Spreadsheet software well the built in functions can be used. I don't! I also struggle with the interface :-) The last time i used spreadsheets is 10 years ago or so.

This was the second time trying this so i make a lot of mistakes. It's more a proof of concept.This was a 3 hour hack so don't excpect much from the source code. But here it is:

"Trigger X gives full control over live's Drumrack and any instrument you select.

For Drumrack, you get 4 groups with each 20 pads (so that makes control over 80 samples in total). Samples can be linked and for each group you have 16 samples with a repeat button and 4 with a loop button (which comes in handy if you'd like to loop some percussion elements for example).

The instrument pads let you play a range of 5 octaves and you can also activate an arpeggiator (with hold function) if you want.

Everything you do can be recorded as midi patterns (4 clips available for drumrack and another 4 for your instrument). This way, you can improvise and edit your patterns afterwards. There is an overdub button implemented so you can try out samples/notes before you record them.

Trigger-X can be downloaded for free at http://aurexmusic.com. You don't need M4L/Bome/... just make sure you have a Launchpad and Live 8.2 or higher.

Live Techno Series #8 - Simon Stokes [Virus, Blofeld, Ableton]

"Thanks for watching. As always, it's been an age since my last live video. Well tonight I have rectified that with an overnight stay in the studio resulting in 2 new tracks and a shiny new video for you...

In this track the drums and percussion are programmed straight into Ableton Live. The main synth part is being played from the Virus which is sequenced by Ableton and tweaked live. The Blofeld is used to add some keys and the UC33e is used to control various parameters in Ableton Suite 8.

All comments are warmly received. Things are looking good for 2012 with a new European tour in the planning stages (get in touch if you are a promoter!) and various other goodness to come over the year. I will also be putting out a good few releases this year on some great labels so stay tuned for that.
