Dave Smith Instruments Job Openning

Do you have what it takes to work for this man?

via Dave Smith Instruments:
"Embedded Software Engineer Needed!

Dave Smith Instruments is looking for an entry-level software engineer to join our team.
Requirements/experience:

Embedded C programming, ideally with the PIC processor family
Assembly language
Audio DSP, ideally with Sharc processors

Deep understanding of music synthesizers is essential!
Hardware knowledge in both digital and analog circuits

DSI is a very small company and we do not have a Human Resources department or a even a a full-time HR person. As such, we will not be responding to applications unless we are interested in talking with you. Please do not apply if you do not already know a lot about synthesizers! Also, we cannot compete with other larger tech companies in salaries and we are looking for entry-level applicants, so please keep that in mind. We will only consider local candidates who are able to work at our office in San Francisco.

All that being said, it's a great opportunity for the qualified, motivated candidate and we have fully paid medical and a great working environment. Please send your resumé and current salary."

Arp 2600 Modular Synthesizer Grey Face w/ Moog Filter + Keyboard

"For those unaware, this grey panel is the superior Arp2600 to the orange panel version that has the original (quasi legal) filter. Moog sued Arp in the mid 70s [not true] and won the lawsuit for Arp stealing their filter design. The later orange panel arps have an inferior filter which takes away a lot of the character that makes a 2600 sound like a 2600. If you open up the inside of it you will see the filter is covered by black plastic cover, this serves no purpose other than for Arp to hide the design theft."

It's my understanding there was no law suite and rather Moog approached ARP who then changed the design. If anyone wants to chime in feel free to in the comments or shoot me an email.

Fender Chroma Polaris

This one has some issues.

"Up for the bid, a vintage Chroma Polaris from Fender that was designed for the most part by ARP design team right before Fender acquired ARP's assets.

This unit is in somewhat rough physical condition (due to some rust on the back of the case) but it appears to be working properly except for a few buttons/leds that don't appear to respond (it's the buttons in the right column of the "Assignable Control" section: Bend Lever Range, Vibration Delay, Osc1 Vibration, Osc2 Vibration, Osc2 Env and Detune button - I marked them on one of the pictures). They were intermittent at fist (sometimes worked sometimes didn't) but now they don't work at all. I'm not sure if this is just some cable connection or the buttons just broke down but since there are narrowed down to just one section, I suspect it may be just a loose wire somewhere. HOWEVER, PLEASE CONSIDER THOSE BUTTONS AS NON-FUNCTIONING WHEN BIDDING!

The Ring Mod led also doesn't light up but the button itself seems to be working (at least I think it's working because when I press it, the sound changes). Otherwise, the synth appears to work fine (to my best knowledge, although I haven't tested the MIDI ports recently so I'm not sure if they work). All sliders appear to function and no slider caps are missing as you see on the pictures. Please examine the pictures and ask questions before you bid!"

"...while we're at it, here's another 70's style Berlin School escapade realized using only the Doepfer A-100 and some external effects. This is fresh from the tape with no further processing (apart from the usual digital mangling of the real analog sound which I have to endure to get this stuff up here)."

"Major Update to iPad and iPhone Looper “Loopy” Brings Pro-Level Capabilities

A major update to indie developer A Tasty Pixel’s app Loopy has hit the App Store today, bringing both enhanced usability for inexperienced users, and professional-grade enhancements for more advanced musicians. Loopy lets musicians and tinkerers alike rapidly build multi-layered musical pieces by recording or importing looped layers of sound.

Dover, UK (PRWEB) July 30, 2012

Independent software developer A Tasty Pixel today announces the latest major update to its live-looping iOS app Loopy. The update includes a big overhaul of the app’s sophisticated audio engine, bringing an entirely new level of audio quality, responsiveness, and audio hardware support.

Loopy is an app that brings live-looping, an innovative music creation technique previously limited to the realm of expensive hardware and complicated computer setups, to anyone with an iPad or iPhone. Furthermore, the app does it in style, with a sleek and tactile interface.

'The big audio engine improvements in this update are going to make Loopy an even more appealing candidate for replacing the expensive equipment previously required for live-looping,' said Loopy developer and independent software company A Tasty Pixel founder Michael Tyson. 'The changes bring a lightning-fast 6-7 millisecond response time, top-quality audio mixing, and support for a wide range of multichannel audio hardware including the Alesis iO Dock and IO4, and the Tascam US range.'

Loopy introduced MIDI support in an earlier update, which allows it to be extensively controlled by foot pedals such as the Roland FC-200 or the Behringer FCB 1010, or tempo-synchronized with other equipment.

Device Requirements: iPad, iPhone 3Gs or newer, or 3rd-generation iPod Touch or newer (microphone accessory recommended) running iOS 4.0 or later.

Pricing and Availability: Loopy, the iPhone-only version of the live looper app, is available for $2.99 exclusively through the App Store in the Music category. Loopy HD, the iPad and Universal version of the app, is available for $7.99 through the App Store.
