"The PPG WaveMapper is very powerful 3 oscillator synth that uses a very unique method for combining and manipulating all of the synths parameters. It uses a Sound Map to control 8 sets of parameters by simply moving them to different places on the map, which makes it easy to experiment with new sound combinations with just the swipe of a finger. The WaveMapper also offers a new synthesis system that maps the waveforms of samples to a new type of wavetable, preserving the characteristics of the original sound across the full range of the keyboard. You can import your own samples using the iTunes file sharing system, and audio paste will be added in the next v 1.01 update. It does come with a great range of samples, including all of the wavetables found in the WaveGenerator app, and you can also convert any sample into a wavetable as well. It comes with AudioBus support for directly recording into other apps, as well as recording within the app and audio copy to the general pasteboard, which is recommended for greater performance. The WaveMapper includes full MIDI support, including the parameter morphing that occurs when the icons are moved around the wave map. The video below shows how you can even record the parameter changes into a sequencer app, then play the synth with the automated changes. You can also get good results using the built-in Arpeggiator, which gives you the freedom to concentrate on parameter manipulation using the icons on the mapper or directly in the parameter sections of the synth. I'm really amazed at how powerful the mapping surface is, allowing for very unique sound combinations, most of which are impossible with any other synth, but on this one it's done so easily. You also just have to tap and hold on any icon to get direct access to the relevant parameters, which makes deeper sound design very easy and accessible. Best of all, the WaveMapper makes complex synthesis totally accessible to all levels of synth enthusiasts, which is just another reason why it is ... a Killer App!
