Meandering - The Infinite Melody
Published on May 15, 2013 otherunicorn·43 videos
"A mostly self playing patch done in analog.
Melody played by a CGS32 Infinite melody through a quantizer, - Zeroscillator, - Sawtooth Animator - Quad Bandpass filter - CGS765 Tube VCA.
Three counterpoints are all Roland System 100M 110 voice modules.
Sequencer and timing - Best of CGS Swamp.
Drums - 9090 driven by a gate to midi converter. (only midi in the whole patch)
Change of base pitch - old dude using digital-control, i.e. my finger.
Recorded on a GoPro Hero 2 plugged into the mixer's headphone socket, thus the noise level."
generative drums processed with noise swash and black death noise synth
Published on May 15, 2013 NoizeHack·53 videos
"A Pure Data patch inspired by the unreleased tiptop audio trigger riot sends out midi data to an Alesis sr16 drum machine which is run through a DIY Noise Swash and then parallel processed through a black death noise synth.
The PD patch takes a base time and then splits it to 4 dividers for each track and the dividers each have a probability setting, to decide how often that count of that drum hit is played. I will release the PD patch once I have figured it out a little bit more, here are the settings below
base time is one pulse every 183 millisecons
kick drum: 1/9 90% - 1/41 42%
snare drum: 1/22 75% - 1/71 39% - 1/192 100%
closed hat: 1/2 62% - 1/1 36% - 1/5 18%
open hat: 1/3 15% - 1/5 8% - 1/25 35% - 1/46 26%
as you can see these numbers are pretty random and there are lots of odd and prime numbers in there, but the beat created is still pretty cohesive, to me at least, maybe I have listened to too much odd music. I am very excited for this type of rhythm sequencing and am looking for ways to make it even more interesting.
If you have ideas about how to further make interesting generative rhythm patterns leave them in the comments below and I will try to implement them."

The Reason Rack offers nearly endless sonic capabilities. But what if you just want the sound of your favorite hardware synth? Or that weird little drum machine you got half-price. In this tutorial we take a look at the External MIDI Instrument and how it can help you expand your Reason rack with your hardware."

Polyphonic Synth (Aalto) and Base (+ iPhone)
Polyphonic Synth (Aalto) and Base (+ iPhone) from Livid Instruments on Vimeo.
"This video demonstrates some of the wild possibilities with aftertouch and the Livid Base MIDI controller, including a novel way to integrate the iPhone with the Base. The 32 touch sensitive pads can output polyphonic aftertouch, so if your synth is great enough to use that (such as the Madrona Labs Aalto plugin), you've got some fantastic possibilities at your fingertips. Stay tuned: after the audio weirdness, there's a short explanation on how to quickly configure the Base using the online Editor. "

XILS-lab Announces XILS V+ Vocoder Synth

"The XILS V+ combines a Vintage 10 band Vocoder, Supreme Top Octave Divider based Strings and Human Voices, or any sophisticated layering of these three elements.
After more than one year of intense modelling deep in the basement of the Xils Laboratories, we offer you this complete recreation of a legend. Its unique vintage vibe and beauty that can only be brought back to life by precisely emulating different ancient and forgotten techniques.
When the XILS V+ is released, in less than two weeks, everyone will be able to invoke the Top Octave Divider oscillator (T.O.D ) and its unique sound, The Ensemble circuitry (Chorus) featuring a compender and no less than 4 Bucket Brigade Delays, The Voice and Vocoder Vibratos (also based on two other BBD), the 14 filters involved in the Human voices, the 3 filters used for the Strings, the 40 Vocoder filters and the sophisticated Attack, Release and Glide circuitry.
T.O.D : The Top Octave Divider Oscillator provides a unique sound that no samples, or other simple synthesis techniques can reproduce. Emulating the T.O.D, without any aliasing on the whole frequency range, with its pitch and waveform modulation, was a real challenge, worthy of XILS-lab. We are very proud of this effort and offer it to you for your inspiration and enjoyment.
XILS-lab touch : The XILS V+ would not however be a real XILS-lab instrument if we did not add a lot of functions and possibilities that were not present in the original machine, some giving access to its internal circuitry and parameters. And some being totally new.
"T.O.D and Beyond", following the Analog and Beyond tradition XILS-lab initiated a long time ago.
The XILS V+ will be available in the following formats : Effect AND instrument, VST2.4, VST3, AU, AAX ( All versions 32 and 64 bits ), Mac and Windows.
Release date : May 25th, 2013
Important Note : Please note that the XILS V+ is protected by a dongle : You’ll need an iLok 1 or 2 , or USB-eLicenser to play it."
