Sequencer ratcheting like Tangerine Dream, Doepfer MAQ16/3

Published on May 20, 2013 kittenpurse1·2 videos

"The popular 'ratcheting' note trill effect used by Chris Franke in Tangerine Dream can be difficult to imitate. Here's a demo of a technique I developed using the Doepfer MAQ 16/3 sequencer and Voltage-Controlled Switch."

Update: If you like what you hear be sure to check out Chris Jenkins latest release on bandcamp and additional links below:

And some details on Chris' latest release via The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge:

"Chris Jenkins, new album Music Inspired by E. E. 'Doc' Smith's LENSMAN Series, available now.

Electronic music in the style of Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre and Klaus Schulze, it’s inspired by the Lensman series of books by E. E. 'Doc' Smith, and the space paintings of Chris Foss.

I have been experimenting with synthesizer music since the 1980s, but (apart from some limited-edition cassette releases), this is my first full album release.

The album features a huge range of analogue, digital and virtual synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines, and was recorded and produced entirely in my Krystle Studio facility in London.

You can hear the entire album, and buy downloads and a CD-R edition, from Bandcamp. You can also listen on Soundcloud, hear a taster of the whole album on YouTube, and find out more about the album on my Wix website. Links are below. [above]

The CD-R edition features full artwork and sleevenotes, and comes with an additional CD-R of extra material.

I hope you enjoy the album, which is planned to be the first in a series."

"Tabula rasa is an awesome design pf Greg Surges.
You can make your own wavetables, then just put them on an SD card and the module is ready to go.

It's a DIY built but both PCB and panel are professionally manufactured.
SD card with a set of wavetables is included."

"THE GOOD:
1. Synth powers on and all buttons/switches light up
2. Synth is clean inside and out.
3. All the boards are visibly intact, clean and no signs of damage/burns etc. (see pictures)
4. Synth makes sounds when keys are pressed.

THE BAD:
1. Synth has cosmetic wear, scratches and areas where paint needs retouching.
2. Synth has no working presets stored/available could be a battery issue. Note: battery is used only for storing/saving sounds.
Although the synth makes sound when played it is more of a flat sound and not strings/brass etc."

"One of the most earliest and rarest synths Korg produced in the '70s, M-500SP is M-500 with built-in speaker on the bottom of the unit.

The unit appears to be working fine, all the keys and sliders and buttons worked when I tested. Maybe a slight noise on the functions knob, which should do with some adjusting/servicing. The speaker is sounding fine too..."
