Moog Receives Outstanding Technical Achievement Award at 31st Annual TEC Awards

"Moog Receives Outstanding Technical Achievement Award for its Modular Recreation at 31st Annual TEC Awards

Anaheim, Calif. – February 3, 2016 – Moog Music announced that it has won an award for Outstanding Technical Achievement from the NAMM Foundation for its faithful recreation of the Model 15, System 35 and System 55 modular synthesizers. Moog Music CEO and President Mike Adams was on hand to accept the award, which was presented in the Musical Instrument Hardware category at a special recognition ceremony on January 23rd during the 2016 NAMM show.

'It is an immense honor to be recognized with a TEC award for the Modular Recreation,' said Adams. 'The award is a testament to the genius of Bob Moog’s original designs created over 40 years ago, and the hard work our team at Moog Music has put into faithfully recreating these classic instruments.'

Presented by the NAMM Foundation, the TEC Awards celebrate the best in professional audio technology and sound production. TEC award recipients are selected by a panel of respected industry professionals from the audio and creative disciplines. In addition to its win for the Modular Recreation, Moog Music was also nominated in the Musical Instrument Amplification & Effects category for its MF-Chorus and MF-Flange Minifooger analog effects pedals.

Modular Recreation
Following its recreation of the Emerson Moog Modular system last year, Moog began handcrafting three more modular systems starting in January 2015. These Modular Recreations include the System 55, the System 35 and the Model 15 analog synthesizers. Each system matches the original product specifications, manufacturing techniques and processes from the 1970s. Every module is built just as they were in 1973 - by hand-stuffing and hand-soldering components to circuit boards, and using traditional wiring methods. Even the front panels are photo-etched aluminum, a classic process rarely used today, to maintain the classic and durable look of vintage Moog modules.

5th Annual Moog Circuit Bending Challenge

"In celebration of the creative curiosity that fueled a young Bob Moog and all of those that follow in his footsteps, Moog is sponsoring its 5th Annual Circuit Bending Contest.

This year, Moog’s circuit bending challenge is to take a battery powered device and circuit bend it into an instrument capable of creating new and unique sounds. We want others to be inspired by your device, and share in the experience of creating something new and exciting. Your project has to be completed in a manner that can be replicated by others. You’ll need to create a step by step list of instructions so that anyone else can replicate the process and create the same instrument. Just to make things a bit more interesting, you’ll need to complete the entire project for $70 or less."

The following is a playlist of last year's finalists.

Extenuate - Improvised Idea by Phoenix-Flare on Prophet 6 & Moog Sub 37

"I sold my Prophet 12 and changed to a Prophet 6 and seem to be happier! Backing beats started out as vinyl on a turntable at half speed before being put through an Octatrack.

Just started using a Cymatic LP-16 for playing back beats which seems to be working well, but haven't tried it out live yet."

Patch Lab #10: Malekko Varigate 4 - only few HP + Roland 572

Published on Feb 3, 2016

"By public request this video goes into detailed explanation of the patch. The new Malekko Varigate 4 simplifies generating evolving rhythms. Previously we had to use many modules & complex patching to achieve similar results. You'll hear the new Roland System 572 phaser module on drums as well as other System 500 modules, and a neat trick for beefing up bassdrum with simple Dopefer VCA's."

"Some modulation possibilities, bank 040 Clicks2 - Uoki-toki´s set used - compare video with raw sounds without modulations http://ladik.ladik.eu/?page_id=1191
Yellow patch cable is trigger from most left LFO, red and orange are modulations from another LFOs on right side.
Top switch is connected to jumper 1 (shortening samples)
Second switch is from jumper 2 (bitcrushing)
Third switch is from jumper 3 (modulations while playing)
One most right A-310 headphone amp is used for my headhones :)
Second A-310 is used for feeding sound directly to camera with level setting (and easiest way for me to convert mono signal to stereo jack...)"

"There is nothing quite like the Yamaha VL70m synths. They are in a league all their own! One of the best ways to precisely reproduce wind instrument sounds. Even bass and guitars on the VL70m are incredible!

With the MRT Breath Controller, add unparalled realism to your brass, reed and woodwind instruments. By simply blowing into the MRT, you can control amplitude, modulation, volume, timbre, and quite an array of other cool effects and dynamics to your instruments."

"Midibox MB6582 V2 in fantastic condition. Built by me under the guidance of a much respected member of the Midibox community. This MIdibox was completed around 2011 and works reliably, 100% as intended and has been in my smoke free studio ever since and only used a handful of times.

Contains 4 x Midibox cores and runs up to 8 x SID chips (INCLUDED) to achieve 4 stereo SID pairs that can be run in unison, multitimral & Superpoly modes among others
The 8 6582A SIDs are from the original Wilba NOS group buy and are authentic 6582A ICs
Case is red anodised etched aluminium by Julian 'The Beast' UK with matching rear panel
A super quiet case fan has been installed in the rear for cooling and can be internally disconnected if needed (including the fan was a bit of a joke on Wilba's part and it's not really essential if the noise bothers you)
Control surface parts were sourced via Wilba's original group buy
All build decisions are based on the MB6582 build wiki
Flat top LED for clean faceplate look
Commodore C64 power supply to be shipped with the unit (US or Japan 110v buyers may decide to opt to not have the PSU shipped as it's quite heavy and could be sourced locally).

I am happy to ship internationally but buyer pays exact shipping charge and will be verified after close of bidding. Local inspection is always welcome. Happy bidding!
