Published on Jun 24, 2016 VoltageCtrlRtv

"This analog/digital modular experiment is made with a combo of Reaktor 6 Blocks: Clock, Clock Divider, Probability, Random gates, West Coast CFG 4x LPG's, Envelope, LFO, 2 x Quad LFO, Quad Delay, Fold OSC, AE35, Mixer.

The Reaktor 6 Blocks patch is sequencing my Eurorack Modular case and supplying pitch to my analog oscillators.

I'm going to be releasing a Reaktor 6 Sketchbook with a 6 song Ep with all the included Reaktor Blocks patches for you to tweak and explore with Reaktor 6 as a stand alone synth or you can plug the patch into your modular or any other analog gear that accepts pitch and gate via control voltage.

Stay tuned for more sonic experiments.

Moog Music Pays Tribute to Bernie Worrell

via Moog Music

"Today we say a very sad and hard goodbye to beloved Moog family member, Bernie Worrell.

As the founding keyboardist and musical director for Parliament Funkadelic, Bernie's pioneering use of the Minimoog laid the foundation for P-Funk's futuristic sound. Despite his many musical accomplishments, it’s his joyful soul and gentle heart that touched everyone at Moog most. He is the father of Moog bass and the auteur of the funkiest basslines in history - “so wide you can’t get around them, so low you can’t get under them”. Worrell’s bass never reaches the bottom, it wobbles your inner being and oscillates your soul. His grooves were three-dimensional, and they have the timeless power to unite people under the power of their groove.

Bernie Worrell lived a lifetime of music. A child prodigy, Bernie began piano lessons at age 3, gave his first classical concert at 4 and had composed his first concerto by age 8. His gift of perfect pitch guided him through Juilliard and the New England Conservatory of Music, where he developed an affinity for ELP records and Keith Emerson’s use of the Moog synthesizer, inspiring him to acquire one of the new Moog instruments for himself. Like Emerson before him, Bernie Worrell’s command of the synthesizer would shape a new sound for the future. Bernie’s analog basslines for Parliament Funkadelic were the substructure for the band’s inter-dimensional operas and remain foundational to this day; as one of history’s most sampled artists, Bernie’s sonic vocabulary is heard prominently in the works of hip-hop’s most impactful producers- a lasting testament to his unique ability to move the masses. Bernie’s contributions to modern music cannot be understated, without him, there would be no funk.

Our fondest memories are of Bernie joining us for many Moogfest’s to celebrate the spirit of his friend, Bob Moog. Bernie received the Bob Moog Legacy Award in 2008 for his groundbreaking use of the synthesizer and celebrated his 70th birthday at Moogfest 2014. Just last month at Moogfest 2016, Bernie surprised his fans with an intimate impromptu performance with one of the first new Minimoogs produced in over 40 years. Bernie was a beacon of kindness and warmth, we gravitated to the pull of his heart whenever we were blessed with his presence.

Thank you for blessing us with the funk of life and the deep magic of the groove, Bernie. The Moog family is forever grateful to you for opening the door to new dimensions. You are a true wizard.

Love, your friends at Moog"

Bernie Worrell Has Passed Away

Just saw the sad news via @Dr_Blankenstein.

Those that follow the site regularly, know Bernie had lung cancer.

Wikipedia currently has the following up: "George Bernard 'Bernie' Worrell, Jr. (April 19, 1944–June 24, 2016[1]) was an American keyboardist and composer best known as a founding member of Parliament-Funkadelic and for his work with Talking Heads. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, inducted in 1997 with fifteen other members of Parliament-Funkadelic. Worrell battled stage-four lung cancer and his wife issued a statement on June 16, 2016, that he was near death. He died 8 days later."

Bernie continued to perform live throughout his life and although he was recently ill, he made his way to Moogfest. The video below is from May 20. Think about that for a bit. Less than a month before his passing, he went out and jammed on a new Minimoog Model D, in public. The man never gave up. That my friends is inspiration beyond inspiration. Never give up. Live life as much as you can while you can, no matter what. Bernie is one of our heroes.

Sincere condolences to his close friends and family.

This one is a bit distorted, but it's great to see him play.

DO NOT MISS THIS VIDEO. Bernie gets a shout out for his solo at 19:42, but that's not him with the hoody on the CS80. The bassline in the background is actually Bernie on the Minimoog and he comes in visually at 20:35.

Update: Moog Music pays tribute to Bernie Worrell.

Quiet Saturdays - Episode 33

Published on Jun 24, 2016 Alba Ecstasy

"This Episode 33 was born from my newest Mutable Instrument Eurorack module, Tides. The drone-sequence is made with it, modulating the Ripples (cutoff) and the Braids (Timbre and Color) and the SEM filter for Z3000mkii. Clouds is coming over with the Oliverb (Parasite mode). Beatstep Pro is pitching and gating. But, the episode actually starts with a pad from Radias and a lead from OP-1. Volca FM adds the bass, microKorg - the wind of sorrow and the Circuit adds some rhythm.
Ganesh the Cat and I, wish you a relaxing weekend!

Soundtrack SciFi style ambient - MOOG MicroMoog & Yamaha Reface CS

Published on Jun 24, 2016 Matt Greer

"Soundtrack SciFi epic style ambient made with a MOOG MicroMoog, Yamaha Reface CS, Eventide Space, Behringer Space C Chorus and a TC Electronics Flashback x4

"Cold" by Robots Against Children

Hi gang,

So I cheated a little this time. This is not really a live jam. I multitracked into the DAW but I wanted to share something so I set up a couple cameras to record myself when I tracked the lead so I could share something on my channel. There's only 3 tracks and each represents a single take. I tried to keep it simple.

The big fat stabbing bass comes from the MicroMoog. This instrument is old and has no midi or sync or anything like that bit it will self-modulate and drone so I set the modulation as slow as it would go and just let it pulse on its own while I changed the root note. It's playing through the Behringer Space C Chorus pedal, the Eventide Space and the Flashback x4 for delay, which also builds the rhythm of the track.

I then did a single take to track some subtle background pads on the Reface CS and then finally I recorded a simple lead on the MicroMoog as well. Great sounding instrument. I think I'll use it more often. I sold my Ultranova lately and moved the Moog onto the stand. That was a good idea."
