Vintage R.A. MOOG CO. Theremin & Coils Ad

Spotted this one on @moogmusicinc Twitter feed.

How cool is that? That's a little bit of synth history right there. Before Bob Moog made synths, he made theremins. Curious if this ad was from a newspaper or a magazine, and from what year.

Tweaking The Stock Novation Circuit Presets

Published on Nov 3, 2016 tarekith

"A simple video showing how easy it is to quickly make the stock Novation Circuit presets a little more to your liking using the Isotonik Editor. In less than an hour you can change all the presets to be more appropriate for your own personal tastes and musical styles.

"Professionally modified for access to all points. Every pot and port seem to work fine but I am unsure of every function so I am unable to confirm proper functionality. The sounds are warm and playability is amazingly simple. It has been about a year since I saw one of these up for sale. This is a very rare opportunity to pick up an amazing vintage synth."

"Excellent Condition. Sounds amazing, very rich and complex, especially in the low end. All the knobs, keys, and arpeggiator work great. Cosmetically, it is in near mint condition. The wood panels are almost flawless, aside from some very small scratches. No dings or anything though..."

"This vintage beautiful has been fully restored to it's exact original specs by the skillful hands of the guys over at This Old Synth in San Jose, California. We've already killed hours here sitting and getting some amazing sounds out of it and as sad as it makes us, we have a job to do and this synth needs to go out into the world and be recorded in all it's analog splendor.

The 37 full-sized keys are framed by wooden side panels, which exhibit a bit of wear and tear, but they have great character as you'll see from the images we've included. The chassis is a tabletop style design, which sits about 20"s deep and 6"s high, so only slightly larger than your typical tabletop keyboard synth. It was released in 1976 and this duophonic synth has two voltage controlled oscillators, 24 db lowpass filter, sample and hold and 7 waveforms which can be mixed simultaneously and both ADSR and AR envelopes in the "transient generator" section. Many have compared it to the ARP Odyssey and while there are certainly many many similarities, The Cat has it's own distinct character and we're very excited to be able to offer an original SRM mod to the public!"

TIM & BARRY X THE JAMESON WORKS: MEMOTONE - BEAT THIS

Published on Oct 11, 2016 timandbarrytv

"Check out Memotone’s exclusive Beat This, made in The Just Jam Van.

From their coopers to distillers, Jameson have always cared about their craft, which is why they created The Jameson Works - to collaborate with those who’re also passionate about the way things are made. For their latest project we hooked up with them to uncover the current face of British underground music culture by hitting the road (in the van) and exploring the creativity that comes from the UK scene.

Ambient generative music on a modular synth: 'Dizzy Dreams' by POB

Published on Nov 2, 2016 Patrick OBrien

"This ambient modular synthesizer patch is an attempt at creating generative music - music that is ever-different & changing, as created by a system. The patch could go on and on with very little or no repetition or interaction. As you see in this video, I powered up the case and walked away, letting it run by itself.

Generative Music revolves around the idea that music, or sounds may be "generated" by a musician selecting parameters within an ecology, such that the ecology will perpetually produce different variations based on the parameters and algorithms used.

I chose to record a long video for those who want background music, music to fall asleep to, or to find the best music to listen to while studying, or for those wanting to hear dreamy yet spooky cinematic analog sound progressions.

My original thought on this piece: imagining someone who's in a deep dream state but experiences subtle interruptions, as if they are getting knocked in and out of consciousness because they are dizzy or hungover.

Only using 2 oscillators (Make Noise's STO and Pittsburgh Modular's Oscillator) and a lot of effects, this one even surprised me! Some of the deep tones sound like brass instruments blaring, while others formed melodies that sound like French Horns.

While some reverb is coming from the Mutable Instruments Clouds, the entire mix is sent through an Eventide H9 Harmonizer Effects Processor.
