This one was spotted by Soviet Space Child on Gearslutz where people are already chiming in.

"Hello everyone,

as you are aware, many of our synthesizers such as Model D, Neutron, Pro-1 etc. have been designed to be used as standalone instruments but also to fit the hugely popular Eurorack format.

Many of you have now requested for us to build individual Eurorack modules, powered Eurorack cases and especially bring back some of the legacy modular systems.

At the same time we also thought about inviting all designers and engineers among you to participate in this initiative.

The goal would be to build a wide range of modules and - as usual - at very affordable prices (target prices US$ 49-99) which would allow us to open this market and get as many people as possible into synths and making music.

Our synth teams are very excited about this potential direction and would love to hear your opinion.

Are you interested in Eurorack systems?
What modules would you like us to make?
What legacy modular systems would you like us to make?
What accessories do you require?

Thank you :-)

Uli"

Countryman Associates TYPE 968A Phase Shifter

This is the first post to properly feature Countryman Associates (they were previously mentioned in the BBC video linked below). Check out the EMS SYNTHI in the background. I can't quite place what's on the upper left. Thought it might be the EMS SYNTHI Logik, but it's not. If anyone knows, feel free to leave a comment.

"Countryman released the first commercial phase shifting devices beginning with the Type 967 Phase Shifter around 1967; The 968A is the last model in this series, released around '71. Like the 967 and 968, the 968A uses an internal Envelope Follower rather than a cyclic LFO for phase modulation. There is also a CV input on the front panel, along with the audio input and output.

Besides being one of the very first of its kind, and having a very unique sound, the 968A is designed in a way that makes it particularly suited to experimental audio processes and special audio effects (as opposed to and different from your average stomp box phaser). There's not a lot of information online about this rare device, but what is available is mostly concerning it's experimental applications.

The 968A was used in a number of early electronic music studios including the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. It's featured in this BBC TV 70's documentary film." [posted here]

"One of the rarest in design, fastest in sound changes (no memory) great and interesting sounding synths. One of Jean Michel Jarre's favorites. Everything works. You can use a modern Korg SQ1 to control it via midi (the SQ1 works as a usb to cv converter for Korg-style cv). I used it this way. Fat basses, crazy ring modulator sounds. This synth has minor scratches and chips in the wood that I usually covered with a paint pen. After a thorough cleaning this will come away and it is your choice to cover the minor scratches again. The joysticks are the original but the top plastic part which was added. I bought it with both tops of the joysticks broken and had two plastic sticks which fit perfectly put in its place. The wood in the bottom has wear and chips. When I bought it it had one rubber foot missing and replaced all with these transparent feet. I will include the three original rubber feet in case you want to search for a fourth original."
