Superbooth 2018: Dave Smith's Sequential Prophet X in Action

Published on May 4, 2018 Future Music Magazine

"The Sequential Prophet X from Dave Smith Instruments looks like an absolute behemoth of a synth – a bi-timbral, 8-voice stereo (16-voice mono) instrument that combines samples and synthesis. We grabbed a showfloor demo at Superbooth."

Analogue Renaissance at SUPERBOOTH - Analog distortion for the TB-303 and pretty much everything else

"TS-303 GT Acid Screamer prototype

Totaly bonkers circuit design with Vbe multipliers, Gyrator, Capacitance multiplier and Negative Impedance Converter in a feedback loop with ridiculously high gain.
Features:

- Jumper selectable input impedance 50k - 500k Ohm
- Variable input level: From nothing to +40dB
- Variable output level: 0 to 8Vp-p.
- Tuneable Symetry of the distortion. From perfect symmetric distortion to keeping bottom or top half of the signal intact while obliterating the other.
- Tuneable Dynamics: It analyses the volume enveloppe of the input signal and can restores this on the output signal. This from zero to doubling of the original dynamics.
- Switchable between overdrive and distortion
- Frequency selective distortion: Only distort certain parts of the spectrum, while keeping the rest itact. 2 frequency selection knobs allowing highpass, bandpass, band-reject, lowpass distortion. Do not confuse this with filtering of the input or output signal. It happens in the distortion engine itself.
- Turbo mode: Self-oscillation happening only at the highest clipping levels. Still exploring the posiblities of this one, but it already made me mistake a 606 for a 303...
- A rack version will also be available

AR3109

Replacement for the IR3109. Sounds and behaves exactly the same.

It even does the distortion that happens in the MC-202 and SH-202 when you run them at low voltage or almost empty batteries.

It's also DC-accurate. So, it also works in the portamento circuit of early Jupiter 4's.

STG Switch - Four Applications

Published on May 4, 2018 suitandtieguy

"I spend 15 minutes going over four different uses of the STG Soundlabs Switch module: sequence selector, rhythm generator, audio source selector, and waveform replacement synthesis.

Eurorack introductory sale price of $215 (save $35!) available here: http://stgsoundlabs.com/products/swit...

Moog format: http://stgsoundlabs.com/products/swit..."

"Switch

Switch is a four-input, four-output, voltage and gate controlled switching matrix (and tempo-controlled clock generator/selector.)

The panel is in three sections: inputs, voltage-select output, and sequential outputs. Both output sections feature LEDs which indicate what input channel is currently routed to that output.

The voltage-select output section has a control input, signal output, and 4 indicator LEDs. The response is such:

0v-1v - No connection (0v output)
1v-2v - Channel one
2v-3v - Channel two
3v-4v - Channel three
4v-5v - Channel four

The sequential output has three outputs: two-stage, three-stage, and four-stage. All three outputs shift in tandem on rising edges presented to the v-trig input. There is a stage one input, when gates are presented to this input all outputs will reset and remain on channel one.

Switching delay on sequential outputs is less than 20 microseconds. Input-to-output gain is 1:1 for use in volt-per-octave pitch applications.

Switch also features a very useful bonus feature. There is a connector on the back for the STG Sync Bus. When connected to the sync bus, inputs one through four are normalised to 50 percent duty cycle rhythm clocks of 8th, 16th, 16th triplets, and 32nd notes.

This allows you to use Switch as a voltage controlled clock generator while under sync bus control without any inputs connected except the control signal.

Switch on a sync bus, coupled with a voltage sequencer such as the Voltage Mini-Store or a Detachment 3 Archangel, is the most direct way to duplicate the functionality of Tangerine Dream's Projekt Elektronik digital trigger sequencer as used on the title track of Stratosfear.

This module has a physical depth of only 2 inches.

Introductory sale price: $215 (will increase to $250 when units begin to ship.)

Ship date of July 2018"
