Moog Music at NAMM: President Mike Adams and CTO Cyril Lance
Published on Jan 18, 2020 Music Tectonics
"Moog Music defined the sound of analog synthesizers in the 1960s, and the company is still focused on innovation. Hear the astonishing story of Moog, from the theremins Bob Moog built to put himself through school to this year's release, the Subsequent 25, from Moog Music President Mike Adams and CTO Cyril Lance.
Music Tectonics is at the 2020 NAMM Show, the National Association of Music Merchandisers annual event in Anaheim. When Dmitri’s not playing with the most exciting new gear on the trade show floor, he’s talking to the companies who are trailblazing with new musical instruments, controllers, and software— or reviving old sounds with new tech. Listen in!"

NAMM 2020: Five12 Vector Sequencer Updates and New Case
Published on Jan 18, 2020 sonicstate
"After Superbooth last year we were keen to catch up with James Coker at Five12 to check out some of the updates to the Vector sequencer. The Vector is an 8 part sequencer module for your eurorack system. With the new updates rolled out at the end of last year, the Vector is fast becoming one of the best sequencers out there."

NAMM 2020: 4MS Ensemble Oscillator Sounds & Interview
Published on Jan 18, 2020 Perfect Circuit
"4MS's new module is sixteen oscillators in one, enabling everything from additive synthesis to complex FM, chords, and more.
Dan Green from 4MS walked us through the concept behind their newest module, the Ensemble Oscillator. Designed in collaboration with Matthias Puech, Ensemble Oscillator is a polyphonic oscillator with internal provisions for FM, phase distortion, additive synthesis, and wave folding. Based around user-definable scales, it breaks away from "swarm" oscillator concepts in favor of exploration of quantized harmonic intervals, be they conventional or unconventional.
The sheer power of sixteen simultaneous oscillators cannot be overstated—but when combined with all of the internal options for cross modulation, wave shaping, and phase distortion, the Ensemble Oscillator becomes a source of immense sonic potential: from sparkling arpeggios to dense drones, chaotic noise, and beyond.

NAMM 2020: Pittsburg Modular Cascading Delay Network Sounds & Interview
Published on Jan 18, 2020 Perfect Circuit
"The Pittsburgh Modular Cascading Delay Network is four delays in one, with multiple pre-set routing options to create a wide variety of effects.
Pittsburgh Modular's Richard Nicol took some time at NAMM 2020 to explain the concept and inner workings of the Cascading Delay Network. The Cascading Delay Network is a collection of four PT2399-based delays with complex internal analog switching that allows for selection of several pre-set signal routings. By re-arranging the way signals pass through these delays, the Cascading Delay Network can create everything from complex multi-tap delays to reverb-like effects, stereo repeating swirls, and much more.

NAAM 2020: Noise Engineering New DSP Platforms - Virt Iter & Desmodus Versio
Published on Jan 18, 2020 Perfect Circuit
"Noise Engineering came to NAMM 2020 with some exciting new developments—including a completely new platform for stereo oscillator and effect development, which will allow owners to swap out firmwares at will using a simple USB connection. Markus from Noise Engineering walks us through the concept behind this open-ended design.
The first products built on these platforms are the Virt Iter and Desmodus Versio. Virt Iter is a stereo oscillator with three distinct modes, with audio rate phase modulation and plenty more tricks up its sleeve. Desmodus Versio is their much-anticipated reverb module, capable of everything from basic delays to shimmering, billowing reverbs. A portion of the proceeds from Desmodus Versio will be donated to bat conservation.

NAMM 2020: Qu-Bit Data Bender, Cascade, Surface & Aurora
Published on Jan 18, 2020 Perfect Circuit
"Qu-Bit debuted four new modules at NAMM 2020, including the remarkable Data Bender.
Qu-Bit presented the Aurora reverb, Surface physical modeling voice, and Cascade envelope generator—but of all their new offerings, we were most taken with the Data Bender. Andrew Ikenberry describes in detail the inner workings of this peculiar and outright destructive new Eurorack effect.
Designed to create several flavors of glitches and audio defects, the Data Bender is at its core an up to five minute digital audio buffer. Geared toward creating the sounds of failing recording technology (like neglected tapes, skipping CDs, and software glitches), the Data Bender turns "undesirable" sounds into entirely new types of musical effects.
