"This is an amazing original all-analog Tom Oberheim SEM (Synthesizer Expander Module) in excellent condition and sounding unbelievably creamy, alive and totally fabulous. It has been modified/expanded with extra patch points, switches and pots. SEMs were produced between 1974 and 1979. The serial number sticker fell off decades ago, so I'm not sure the exact production year. It has the 1180 circuit board, as seen in the photos. Everything has been tested and functions perfectly except the pot on the 3rd (right-most) Attenuator, but none of the Attenuators are connected to any SEM circuitry.

The SEM is monophonic, with two VCO's (each with sawtooth or variable-pulse waveforms). The LFO is triangle wave only. The VCF is 2-pole multimode (low-, band-, hi-pass, band-reject) with an ASR (Attack, Decay and Sustain) Envelope Generator or External CV control. The VCA has an ADR (Attack, Decay and Sustain) Envelope Generator or External CV control.

"So I'm off work today. Turns out eating from a bag of dry roasted peanuts that have been open since before Christmas wasn't such a good idea. So this is about my level for the day, a bit of long and indulgent ambient music.

The synth part of this was created using Korg Ds-10 for Nintendo DS which I have used a lot over the years but never really tried to make a 'proper' ambient piece on until now, does a good job I think. The field recording was recorded on a Sony MZ-N710 back when minidisc was a good option for that kind of thing. I'd written 'Summer Ambience' on the disc so no idea where that was recorded. The video footage was filmed by my dad on a DVD camcorder, again when that was a good way to do things. It's footage of Decoy Woods and Snipe Dales country park in Lincolnshire. Forgive the edit, no way near enough video for this length of track. Zoom 1201 on reverb duties again.

One of my followers on Instagram asked recently if I'd make an ambient release so this is a pretty good candidate for that I reckon.

"The synth is working, it powers on and produces sound. Going through the synth all knobs and switches are working, all 4 voices, waveforms, noise source and the VCF/EG/VCA signal chain are working, all ins and outs are working. The arpeggiator works, latches and holds, and will cycle through the 4 vcos, warping them in a deliciously twisted manner when using the X-Mod effects in poly mode. All push button switches are working and all leds work. The pitch bend and modulation wheels both work. Both LFOs (MG1/2) are working on all waveforms at all rates."
