Bleepy Machine Groove

Published on Apr 21, 2020 Urs Heckmann

Urs Heckmann of U-he software on heurorack.

"4 Oscillators FMing each other through CVilization acting as 4 x 4 sequential switch.

This is an experimental patch that I wanted to try for a while: 4 Oscillators are plugged into CVilization, which then is plugged back into the FM inputs of the oscillators. CVz' Sequential Switch mode then distributes a different oscillator to FM any other with each clock step, resulting in complex FM patterns.

After some tweaking, at some point I found this bass groove which kind of seemed noteworthy. As I hadn't set this up in a proper studio, I simply used my phone to record the video while tweaking. I reckon the lofi video experience matches the randomness of the music quite nicely.

Patch Notes:

CVilization in 4 x 4 Sequential Switch mode
MI Grids for rhythm and clock
4 x Mini Mod Osc by AJH, feeding through CVz into themselves, and into 2 VCFs/VCAs for 2 dual voices with 2 VCOs each
Filters by AJH (Mini Mod) and Make Noise (QPas, used in stereo)
VCA by Intellijel (uVCA) and Make Noise (X-Pan)
Intellijel Quadrax for envelopes, triggered by Grids
Additional sequencing and by Xaoc (Moskwa, Tirana)
Erica PicoDrums for base drum
Xaoc Praga for Mixing
Erica PicoDSP for reverb
Alright Devices Chronoblob 2 for delay"

How To Edit Korg NTS-1 'WAVES' Oscillator - Korg NTS1 Tutorial

Published on Apr 21, 2020 ChrisLody

"Just a quick tutorial video on how to edit the Korg NTS-1 'WAVES' oscillator. The WAVES oscillator is a custom oscillator for the NTS-1 that comes pre-installed. It's got a lot more depth than the other oscillator settings but unfortunately the details aren't really covered properly in the manual or anywhere on the net that I can find. So here is my exploration of it. It can be an extremely gritty sounding oscillator, or layered set of waveforms when pushed."

Playing with the K1m

"Roland D50 of the poors. Cheap Synth but not cheap sounds. Released in 1988, the K1 from Kawai is still capable to deliver gorgeous vintage sounds for anyone interested on the retro vibe of late 80s synths."

Hartmann Neuron - history, tutorial, sound design and demo

Published on Apr 20, 2020 synthlegends

"In this video I introduce the german digital synth Hartmann Neuron from 2001 - 2004.

The synth is very sought after and ultra rare (only about 500 units built, maybe around of 200 working today). The Neuron is based on a Celeron processor with linux system, it ist a bit dated, but you can exchange the old hard drive with a ssd drive and also enhance the RAM from 128 MB to 1024 MB. Almost all components in the Neuron can be exchanged.

First of all, I am talking about some historical facts, after that I show you how to create models with the model maker from samples, then I give an overwiew about the sound design possibilites. Finaly I demonstrate some typical Neuron sounds and conclude with a multitrack demo consisting only from Neuron sounds. In the background you can listen to much Neuron music, also the multitrack songs, everything is pure Neuron without additional mastering, effects and compression.

Have fun with this video, stay tuned and keep healthy,

Cheers, Rüdiger"

The Digital Squall (TX Wiggles 59)

Published on Apr 20, 2020 poorness studios

"This video is yet another happy accident. I was testing out the Phonogene and patched up a simple pink noise into a filter sweep. It sounded like wind. I thought to myself... can I make the rest of the squall? Well... this is what happened next. Modular can be a fun way to battle the boredom of being stuck at home."

Sound Design with Polyend Dreadbox Medusa (Ep. 2) - Mallets/Keys & how to setup the Grid for chords

Published on Apr 20, 2020 Miltos Schimatariotis

"Today we have a relatively simple sound to make and depending on how you tweak it sometimes it may sound like a mallets instrument and sometimes a keys or bell patch. Βut this is also a tutorial on how you can set up the grid to play chords in an interesting way that can help you find musical ideas and chord progressions easily."
