Ah Kosmos! On The Wall Of Test Equipment

video upload by HAINBACH

"I have been working on a record with @AH! KOSMOS for two months now and its been a blast! Here is the first snippet I can share. She is the first beside me to play my wall of science junk, which makes me rather happy - its nice to see others play your instruments, even if its obsolete machines patches together haphazardly. We will continue work on the record and share more as it comes along."

Imaginando FRMS, Birdkids OffGrid and Cocoquantus2

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"I put together a very special live set that will debut very soon.
Looking forward to tell you more about it."

Cobalt8 vs Argon8 Modal Synth Battle Spectacle

video upload by Aperture Sound Lab

"A Suite of mini jams made entirely of Argon8 and Cobalt8. Paired together, Solo one-make. - Doesn't matter. They're 2 of my go-to synths for just about every type of music out there... Enjoy. More sounds for synths at https://www.ApertureSoundLab.com

All Music Written and Produced by Major Oscillator"

Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Plays Bach - BWV 847 (Bach on Analog Synthesizer)

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"𝄞 in this video I'm going to to send Bach's Prelude and Fugue in C Minor from the Well Tempered Clavier through my Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Analog Synthesizer. It became some highly meditative moment, since the Perfourmer adds a lot of character and personality to the timeless genius of Bach.

The first oscillator is playing the left hand (mostly) while the other 3 oscillators play most of the right hand parts, and sometimes also the polyphony.

I used the midi files from Bernd Krueger @ "http://www.piano-midi.de" (thanks a lot for the work!)"

Trove of Nyle Steiner Documentation and Images Available via Analogue Realities

Analogue Realities wrote in to let us know they have made a trove of Nyle Steiner documentation and images available on dropbox via his site.

"Nyle has given me permission to share this with the general public. Please, please give credit to Nyle whenever you use this information. If you make money off of his genius and work, please consider sharing something with Nyle. He is one of the truly nice, gentle, humble, and generous people in this world.

The organization is not the greatest, but I’m sure you’ll have many happy hours trying to figure out why I put things where they are :) The archive is very big, more than 4.6 Gbytes so be sure you have room."

P.S. Analogue Realities remade the Steiner Synthasystem. See the Analogue Realites label for more.

Pictured left is Nyle Steiner holding his Steiner EVI. The image was also featured back in 2015 from Analogue Realities, on a documentary being made on Nyle Steiner (see this post for the completed film). I thought this would be a great image for a new post on a trove of his historical works.

The 1979 Steiner filter.

The filter was used by YuSynth (featured posts here) and made its way into Arturia synths starting with the Minibrute designed by Yvves Usson of YuSynth.

Pittsburgh Modular New Modules Llama Kick and Polar Bear Snare Patch Lab with Richard Nicol

video upload by Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers

"Richard discuss and demo the Llama Kick Drum and Polar Bear Snare Drum modules. Should all analog drums sound like an 808? We hope not."

"Pittsburgh Modular Safari Series 3 showcases the first results of our research into analog drum synthesis. These circuits were designed as part of a larger project but large projects are slow and we are excited about these sounds NOW so a small batch of modules for us and our friends was necessary.

The Llama and Polar Bear are an attempt at creating realistic(-ish) kick and snare drums using our own unique designs. These modules are not based on the sound of any famous drum machine, instead they represent a new approach to building synthesized kick and snare drums informed by the world around us. The results are something that sound not completely unlike kick and snare drums, but with a flexibility that bends beyond the limits of a physical instrument.

Llamas Make the Best Kick Drums
The Llama is a majestic creature known almost exclusively for the unique way it generates kick drum sounds when it is angry. Our module pays tribute to this soulful, sonic wonder. We think it sounds very nice.

Polar Bear Rhymes with Snare
Although most polar bears are born on land, they spend the majority of their life on the sea ice hunting for the perfect snare drum. Most hunts end in failure. However, with a little bit of luck, the Polar Bear is rewarded with a glorious snap! We think this one sounds very nice too.

Price, Availability, and More Information
The retail price for the Llama and Polar Bear is $199 each. Because these modules are considered experiments, production has been limited to 200 Llamas and 200 Polar Bears. The modules are available now through the Pittsburgh Modular web shop. More information regarding the Llama and Polar Bear Eurorack Modules is available at pittsburghmodular.com/safari.

Side note…
We designed a new set of knobs. This may be the nerdiest, and therefore the coolest thing we have ever done! Llama and Polar Bear are the first Pittsburgh Modular modules to ship with our new knobs. A color forward, modern design that pairs the soft touch exterior with a bold interior and integrated indicator. We now have four new knob sizes with infinite color options ready for all the future Pittsburgh Modular and Cre8audio projects!"
